I bought 05 R1 last friday (f…hell what a blast…) and going to play with my suspension setup to get it right for my weight and riding style but before going through this long process of finding the best combination I thought it would be worth asking what is your best setup?
on R1 forum I found this:
01 R1, rider:100kg
front:
raise the forks 7mm
preload: 5 clicks out
compression: 5 clicks out
rebound: 4 clicks
tyre preassure: 34 psi
rear:
preload 8 (9 is max)
compression: 4 clicks
rebound: 5 clicks
typre preassure: 38 psi
I weigh 220 pounds (15.7 stones) and here are the settings the guys at HM Racing setup my R1 with…Bear in mind that the suspension internals (stiffer K-Tech springs) have been uprated so your mileage may vary.
Front suspension
Compression - 10 clicks out
Rebound - 6 clicks out
Rear suspension
Compression - 15 clicks out
Rebound - 19 clicks out
Hope that helps
Best thing you can do is take it to a professional. B does it, leave him a PM

Ditto, get B to do it, highly reccommended.
“Standard” bikes can vary wildly, so IMHO, general figures dont really work.
Be very careful using someone elses settings… I know a guy with an R1 who used the settings in a magazine - perfect on a mirror smooth surface, add in a few bumps and it turned into a tank slapping monster.
B comes highly recommended, other people out there that I know do it and do it well are Steve jordan in Bookham, and Setup engineering in Wandsworth
