Marco Simoncelli leaves the Sachsenring circuit these evening feeling satisfied but slightly frustrated at a sixth place finish in the German Grand Prix. The Italian showed his pace in the middle part of the race but struggled with tyre wear over the final ten laps.

Unfortunately, Marco Simoncelli’s chances of victory at Assen went up in smoke on the opening lap. A mistake stemming from an eagerness to lead put the Italian off-track on the first left hand corner, taking out Jorge Lorenzo with him.

Casey Stoner (Repsol Honda RC212V) increased his MotoGP World Championship points lead with a measured second place finish to maiden MotoGP winner Ben Spies (Yamaha) in front of a Saturday crowd of 92,150 at the Dutch TT in Assen, Holland. Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda RC212V) finished third.

After yesterday's FP2 was cancelled due to track conditions, this morning offered the first opportunity for the Repsol Honda riders to set up their RC212V's in dry conditions in an extended 90 minute session at the Assen circuit.

The opening day of the Dutch TT saw the cancellation of free practice in all three classes at Assen, due to an oil spillage during the morning Moto2 session that the officials were unable to shift despite a valiant effort.

“Super Sic” had the podium as his goal today from pole position but a solid sixth place in Barcelona proved a positive end to a tough weekend. A poor start and tricky conditions certainly didn't help the Italian to set the lap times he had been reeling off in practice, which would have brought him back in touch with the leaders in the race. However, Marco remains satisfied with a result that sets him back on the right path following a controversial few days in Spain. Hiroshi Aoyama made a big mistake that also brought an end to the race of Randy De Puniet. It was a weekend to forget for the Japanese, who failed to score points for the first time this season.

Marco Simoncelli and his team are disappointed this afternoon. An incident in the Le Mans race has left a bad taste in the mouths of the Team San Carlo Honda Gresini –not least because of the resulting injury to Dani Pedrosa. It also led to the missing out on a praiseworthy podium for rider Marco Simoncelli. Previous controversies over the past few weeks perhaps led to the punishment for an unintentional incident.
