The Streetguard 2 is one of motorcycling’s iconic riding suits and has changed little since it was first launched in 2005. However, three years on there is good news for motorcycle riders as BMW Motorrad announces its successor - the Streetguard 3.

Much like its predecessor, the Streetguard 3 is an all-weather suit designed to provide comfortable and safe riding all year round.  However, the new suit features a number of technological, style and comfort advancements to ensure that this popular suit is better than ever.

While the Streetguard 2 suit adopted GORE-TEX® based technology, the Streetguard 3 suit uses a Keproshield™ 3-layer laminate, which has been specifically developed for BMW Motorrad exclusively by schoeller®. The 3-layer laminate is made up of Kevlar®, cotton, polyamide and a c-change™ membrane, which ensures that the suit is 100% waterproof, windproof, and even more comfortable to wear.

The innovative c-change™ membrane is also highly breathable, adapting its pore size to maintain a comfortable temperature when wearing the suit, whatever the weather. On cold days the polymer compresses its structure to provide better insulation, while on warmer days, when the temperature in the suit reaches approximately 18°C the pores in the polymer structure opens, enabling body heat and moisture to escape.

The new outer shell, comprising of Keproshield™ and Dynatec™, provides approximately 20% higher abrasion resistance than the Streetguard 2, while the suit’s coldblack® finish prevents the suit from absorbing heat, keeping the wearer cool on hot sunny days by reflecting up to 80% of the sun’s UV rays. Meanwhile, the c-change™ membrane and ventilation zips provide further breathability. The double zip and labyrinth flap have been replaced with a single waterproof zip on the Streetguard 3.

The suit is also perfectly equipped for cooler conditions with a 3M Thinsulate™ liner for excellent thermal insulation to protect against chills in colder weather. It also features a radiation-shielded internal pocket for mobile phones and two waterproof inside jacket pockets.

The technical capabilities of the suit are not the only improvement. As with all BMW Rider Equipment, safety is of paramount importance. The new suit is fitted with upgraded protection in the form of NP protectors in the back, elbow, hip and knee areas, with the knee protectors adjustable to three heights for maximum comfort and safety. In addition to passive safety features, active safety is provided in the form of high visibility reflective fabric. The reflective strips are fitted on the front and back of the suit, as well as on the trouser legs, ensuring that the rider can be easily seen even when visibility is poor.

The newly announced Streetguard 3 suit

The stylish new Streetguard 3 suit is available in a variety of sizes, including a selection of special women’s cut suits, which differ in both design and cut to provide perfect fit and optimum wearer comfort. The suit is black, with a black, grey and orange jacket also available.

The BMW Streetguard 3 suit is priced at £925.00 including VAT and will be available in dealerships from January 2009.
