The 2007 FIM Off-road Awards took place in the affluent setting of Monaco and the ‘Salle de Etoiles’ last Saturday and Yamaha De Carli’s Antonio Cairoli and Yamaha Demaria’s Yves Demaria proudly accepted their silverware for MX2-GP and MX3-GP world championship success respectively. In front of more than 400 guests that included former world championship legends like Jean-Michel Bayle and Roger de Coster, winners from both the Motocross and Supermoto World and European stages were given their accolades by the FIM and Youthstream.
Yamaha were able to celebrate title success in two of the three FIM Motocross World Championship classes as Yves Demaria swept to victory in the MX3 series by finishing second overall at the fourteenth and final round of the 2007 series at Faenza in Italy yesterday. The French veteran, who steered adapted YZ450F machinery within his own team structure for ‘07, led the big-bore category by 28 points going to the fast venue close to Bologna. The 35 year old had won the previous four consecutive motos in Denmark and Switzerland and been victorious overall in four of the thirteen rounds before heading to Italy.
The efforts of Joshua Coppins, Antonio Cairoli and Yves Demaria in the FIM MX1, MX2 and MX3 Championship respectively have ensured a fantastic start to the international off-road racing calendar for Yamaha; with the manufacturer leading the standings of each series and remaining unbeaten in the two Grand Prix run so far in MX1 and MX2.
