Cairoli Runner-Up at German Grand Prix

With a moto victory and second position in front of 34,000 spectators and under hot sunshine at Teutschenthal, Antonio Cairoli took the same points as the winner of the MX2-GP Grand Prix of Germany but walked away from round eight of fifteen in the world championship as runner-up due to the second moto ranking. The fast and hard Talkessel circuit benefitted from bright conditions and warm temperatures as the biggest crowd for more than ten years at the venue close to the city of Halle filled the grassy banks.

Virgin Media Yamaha Supersport - Thruxton Preview

Virgin Media Yamaha will make the long journey south from Team headquarters in Scunthorpe to Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire to contest the second round of the 2008 British Supersport Championship, this weekend (18-20 April).
After the frustrations of the opening round at Brands Hatch two weeks ago, BJ Toal and Nick Medd will be hoping for more favourable weather condidtions in order to finally mount their respective 2008 campaigns. As the 2007 Virgin Media Cup Champion, BJ Toal has taken the step up to the competitive Supersport category in his stride. The Omagh-based rider is relishing the challenges ahead of him and has already proved that he can cut the mustard with more seasoned riders with a string of impressive lap times under his belt from the opening exchanges in Free Practice and Qualifying at Brands Hatch.

Cairoli Hungry for Third MX2-GP World Championship

The 2007 FIM MX2-GP Motocross World Championship was very much a success story for Yamaha De Carli rider Antonio Cairoli. The Sicilian blazed a path through the season’s statistics book on his YZ250F. Along with the 10 GP wins and 21 moto chequered flags the double world champ’s consistency meant that he only dropped out of the top two twice from 28 MX2-GP races. Add an MX1-GP debut triumph, an Italian MX2 title and a European Supercross championship and it hard to believe how Cairoli can top this performance in 2008.

Yamaha Confirm Harris As Starting Grid Nears Completion

Karl Harris will be riding the factory backed Yamaha in the forthcoming British Superbike Championship which will feature high powered production based machines from six of the world’s leading manufacturers on a starting grid expected to boast a 32 strong rider line-up. The Sheffield rider, a former triple British Supersport Champion, has a strong pedigree in the top flight, having ridden both Suzuki and Honda in Superbikes and now he is excited by the challenge of joining Rob McElnea’s equipe which will also be entering three bikes into the Supersport category.

Yamaha Wins In MX1 But Looses Grip On Championship At British GP

Yamaha Motocross Team's Josh Coppins made a brave comeback to the FIM Motocross World Championship despite sustaining a two inch break to his left shoulder only four weeks ago but could not prevent his lead in the standings being lost to rival Steve Ramon. Meanwhile MX1 debutant Antonio Cairoli marked a new highlight in a truly wonderful season of success as the MX2 world champ won his first ever outing in the premier class with a 2008 production YZ450F in front of 28,000 spectators.

Guarneri's First GP Win Only Highlight For Yamaha In Namur

With FIM MX1 World Championship leader Josh Coppins out of action due to a small shoulder break and second rider Marc de Reuver unable to get to grips with narrow and fast circuit at Namur, Yamaha Motocross Team were unfortunately without a representative for the Grand Prix of Belgium and the twelfth round of fifteen in the 2007 series watched by a 31,000 crowd last weekend.

Jomo Dominates Thursday’s Free Testing

The Suzuki Yoshimura with Jomo 34 posted the fastest time in Thursday’s free tests at Suzuka with a lap of 2’08.585, a mark set by rider Kosuka Akiyoshi. His Suzuki was the only machine to have completed the 5,821 meter Japanese circuit under the 2’09 barrier. The next best time came from Katsuyuki Nakasuga on the Yamaha Racing 21 with 2’09.607, just ahead of the Honda HRC 33 who registered 2’09.948 thanks to its star rider Carlos Checa.

Yamaha Continue With Future MX2 Title Contenders

In 2007 Yamaha is enjoying again a very successful world championship motocross season. Joshua Coppins controls the MX1 class with a healthy 89 points margin halfway though the year, while Antonio Cairoli is in a league of his own ruling over the MX2 opposition with eight GP wins out of the nine rounds contested sofar. Although Cairoli will stay in the small capacity class for 2008, Yamaha is already grooming the next ‘blue’ generation for GP success and therefore are pleased to announce that Frenchman Nicolas Aubin has signed for two more years, while his teammate Davide Guarneri has also extended his Yamaha Team Ricci contract for 2008.

Cairoli Stays On Podium After Tricky Japanese GP

Yamaha De Carli's Antonio Cairoli saw his winning streak of five Grand Prix come to an end in Japan but the Sicilian - who announced a new three year agreement with Yamaha the same day - took a second moto win and second position overall behind arch-rival Christophe Pourcel in the sixth meeting of the MX2 campaign. Sugo was another capable circuit on which Cairoli could show off his speed and skills. The mud was hugely technical by virtue of the holes, dips and bumps that carved very quickly into the surface. The course demanded concentration but also allowed for individual expression thanks to the choice in racing lines and vast jumps.

Yamaha Goes Dutch For Round Five

The World Superbike Championship goes to Assen this weekend and with Queen’s Day falling on the Monday after the race the Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team will be celebrating this Dutch national holiday by wearing special team clothing over the weekend. Queen’s Day, or Koninginnedag as it is called in Dutch, is a day of celebration of the Dutch monarchy. Queen Juliana started the festival on the date of her birthday (30th April) and when Queen Beatrix succeeded the throne in 1980 she kept the same celebration date as the weather on her own birthday in January often prohibited outdoor festivities.

Yamaha Looking For More Wins Going Into 4th Round At Valencia

The Ricardo Tormo Circuit will host its first international race of the season this coming weekend, with the fourth round of the World Superbike Championship coming to this popular track for its eighth consecutive year. Valencia is a tight and twisty circuit built with spectators in mind. The venue was designed to be a 'circuit within a stadium' and this has been achieved with over 65,000 grandstand seats that allow spectators to view the track, and the action on it, from the one position. The popularity of this circuit is evident, with over 3 million spectators visiting since its opening in 1999.

Yamaha's Cairoli Rules Supreme At The Benelux GP

Antonio Cairoli aced the MX2 class with a double moto sweep for his eleventh career victory. The De Carli Yamaha rider won both races at a reasonable canter for an authoritative launch to the World Championship. The 2005 number one and '06 runner-up toyed with leader Gareth Swanepoel in the formative stages of Moto one but pulled clear on lap seven to a enjoy an untroubled run to the finish line. The second race followed a similar script once he had moved past reigning champ Christophe Pourcel, who had made a mistake and fallen.

Winning Debut For Yamaha'S Coppins At The Benelux GP

Yamaha Have Difficult Weekend In Supersport

With neither rider in the Yamaha World Supersport Team participating in today's race, the pressure was on for all other Yamaha-shod riders to try and get a good result for the manufacturer. Following accidents during Friday's free practice, both Curtain and Parkes were ruled out of any further riding this weekend due to broken collar bones.

FIM World Enduro 2 Championship - Round 1 - Ostersund - Sweden

Finnish riders Samuli Aro and Mika Ahola shared victory in the Enduro 2 class at the opening round of the '07 World Enduro Championship with Aro topping day one and Ahola day two. Revelling in the typically Scandinavian winter conditions the two riders placed comfortably ahead of countryman Valtteri Salonen on both days as the three ensured that the podium on both days was an all Finnish affair.

The 2007 FIM Motocross World Championship sees Yamaha once again retain a strong and potent line-up of teams, riders and, importantly, equipment to tackle the MX1 and MX2 classes over the sixth month, fifteen round series. Valentino Rossi ended his pre-season preparations in fine style today after taking top honours in the traditional 40-minute ‘Qualifying’ Practice session at Jerez, smashing last year’s pole time and becoming the fastest man ever round the Spanish circuit in the process. There was double satisfaction for Yamaha as Rossi’s team-mate Colin Edwards, who took this same accolade in treacherously wet conditions at Catalunya last year, finished the session third.

Promising Day For Yamaha's Rossi And Edwards After Foggy Start In Jerez

Following yesterday’s heavy rain, thick fog delayed the start of the second day of testing in Jerez this morning before giving way to sunshine and a dry track, providing the Yamaha Factory Team with the chance to get some important work under their belts. Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards both focused on general set-up work today and were pleased to see good improvements to the performance of their 800cc Yamahas since their last test here in November. Rossi and Edwards were consistently fast throughout the day, with Rossi topping the time sheets until the last stages of the session before being overtaken by Marco Melandri (Honda), who set the day’s best lap in a time of 1’40.383. Rossi finished just behind him in a time of 1’40.408, under the existing 990cc lap record, which he himself set in 2005. Edwards, having been in the top three for most of the day, also slipped down the order at the end as several riders opted to try qualifying tyres ahead of tomorrow’s 40 minute timed ‘qualifying’ shoot-out, which begins at 1405 CET.

Final Test Gets Underway For Yamaha At Rain-Hit Jerez

Yamaha Factory Racing riders Valentino Rossi and Colin Edwards started their final pre-season preparations today as the Official MotoGP Test began in Jerez. The Andalusian circuit, which will play host to the second round of the MotoGP World Championship in March, will provide the teams with the last chance to fine-tune their 800cc MotoGP motorcycles before the season gets started in Qatar. After three consecutive races in warmer climes, it was a wet return to European shores this morning when the MotoGP paddock was subjected to a heavy rainstorm and as a result Rossi and Edwards were not able get out on track until the early afternoon. However even after that the low temperatures meant that track failed to dry properly and it remained quite damp in places, causing the Yamaha pair to take it gently throughout the afternoon as they concentrated on trying to find the right set-up ahead of a hopefully drier day tomorrow.
