Corser Podiums and Takes Second in the Championship

Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) finished the 2008 WSB season second in the championship standings after securing a podium finish in the first race at Portimao, then following that up with a safe sixth in race two. The all Yamaha battle for the runner-up spot behind champion Troy Bayliss saw Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) drop out of contention after serving a ride-through penalty for jump-starting in race two, having already been forced out of race one. Both races were won by three-time champion, Troy Bayliss. In the first 22-lap race Corser was in the leading mix from the start and rode aggressively in the messy early laps to stay in contention, but could not quite get back on terms with second place rider Carlos Checa towards the end. Haga was also looking good for a podium finish until he was forced out on lap 18, having started to slow on lap 16.

Yamaha Riders Moving on up as Penultimate Round Approaches

Both Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) have good reason to look forward to the forthcoming WSB weekend in France, as each is enjoying a late season flourish of form. Haga won both of the most recent WSB races at Vallelunga, while Corser has scored three podium finishes in the past three races. They each have good memories of Magny Cours as well, boosting their collective confidence still further.

Yamaha Riders Aim for Victory at Favoured Venue

As the five-week summer break in the World Superbike Championship calendar comes to an end this coming weekend at Donington Park, Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) will each have particularly good recent memories to draw on. Haga won race two at this classic venue last year and Corser scored a double podium, each riding for the current Yamaha squad. In fact the Donington circuit has played a pivotal role in each rider's career in their early years of international competition and more recently. Haga came to European prominence with his first ever double win at Donington in April 1998, again while riding for Yamaha. He now has 30 WSB race wins to his credit, four of them so far in 2008. Corser's first WSB race weekend in Europe took place at Donington way back in 1994, he scored a race two podium in that event. After almost 300 rides in WSB Troy now has 33 WSB race wins to his credit and a quite remarkable 123 podium finishes.

Haga & Corser on Brands Hatch Podium

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) took second and third places respectively after impressive performances in the second Brands Hatch race, both riders changing their tyre choices from race one. An unhappy outcome to a promising first race saw Haga fall on lap seven while Corser dropped back from the leading group to go eighth, on a track surface that had started off slick after a fall of rain shortly before the scheduled 12 midday kick-off.

Haga Close to a Superpole Win

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was only 0.023 seconds from a Superpole win at Brands Hatch, after a very confused 'wet' Superpole contest, which was eventually decided on a completely dry racetrack. Despite the confusion caused by a late switch from a regular 'dry' Superpole to a wet session, Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) secured fifth place and therefore the prime spot on the second row for Sunday's 25-lap races.

Corser an Early Contender on Day One

Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) enjoyed a competitive start to his Brno race weekend by scoring second best time behind local favourite Jakub Smrz, on the recently resurfaced 5.403km Brno circuit. Corser's early pace has already seen him under the previous circuit best, with one more qualifying session plus Superpole on Saturday to determine his final grid position. Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was held back in his early laps by a niggling fault with his machine's electronics package and lost him track time that held back his ultimate provisional qualifying position to 12th.

Yamaha Riders Out to Score Big in Brno

After a successful two-day test at Vallelunga between 8th and 9th July both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) are fully prepared to meet the challenge of a resurfaced Brno circuit on Sunday 20th July. The 9th round of the 2008 season sees Haga arrive in fourth place in the overall championship fight, only six points ahead of his team-mate Corser. Now the most effective team-mates in the field once again, Haga has won four races so far, while Corser has been desperately unfortunate not have taken at least one win among his six podiums. Each rider has recorded successes at Brno, with Corser having won three races there and Haga one. Each took a Brno victory in 2005, Corser the first and Haga the second. The Yamaha duo traded the fastest lap in the two Czech races last year.

Corser & Haga Take Winning Form to San Marino

After incredible rides at the Nürburgring in Germany both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) will be relishing another chance to compete for top honours at Round 8 of the World Superbike Championship at the Misano circuit on the Adriatic coast of Italy this weekend. Despite suffering from a broken right collarbone, plated and pinned before the Nürburgring race, Haga won both races in the German round, only just beating his team-mate Corser in race two. Arguably Corser looked favourite for the win until the track surface started to become wet, but it was still a miracle for Haga to be anywhere near a double win so soon after his big crash in America.

Yamaha Riders go Back to the Future in Germany

Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) approach the seventh round of the 2008 World Superbike Championship, at the Nürburgring in Germany this coming weekend, safe in the knowledge that they are as experienced at this circuit as almost any of their peers. Both Yamaha factory riders have raced on the 1998 and 1999 versions of the circuit, located in the Eifel Mountains close to the Belgian border, and will have little difficulty remembering the majority of the layout.

Corser Flying on Day One

Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team rider Troy Corser made a great start to his latest race weekend by posting the second best time of the first official qualifying session at the new SBK venue of Miller Motorsports Park. Corser was one of three WSB riders who went under the previous AMA Superbike lap record, with Troy taking his Yamaha YZF-R1 to a 1'49.636 best. Feeling his way around the 4.905km circuit on his first visit, Noriyuki Haga was still less than a second from provisional pole with a best lap of 1'50.349. Haga was trying out used tyres to make good progress with his overall raceday set-up plan.

Haga & Corser Head to the USA

After two gutsy rides at his team's home circuit of Monza, Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team rider Noriyuki Haga has now moved into overall third in the championship table. At the previous round in Italy Haga only just lost the battle in race one by 0.058 seconds, before going on to win race two by 0.009 seconds. This coming weekend the 33-year-old Japanese star is ready for more podium success at the all-new American WSB venue of Miller Motorsports Park, near Salt Lake City, in the state of Utah. Haga arrived in the USA early to catch up with friends and got the chance to play some golf with legendary racer Kenny Roberts and his family. Haga & Corser Chase Set-Up at Monza

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was the fastest Yamaha rider on show on the first day at Monza, posting a time of 1'47.074 to go 12th fastest overall. He was just over one second from provisional pole, at this long 5.793km circuit. Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was only three places behind Haga on day one, looking for greater top speed and general set-up to get back into contention at the fastest track on the WSB calendar. Qualifying was conducted in warm and sunny conditions, a great contrast with the deluge of rain that cursed the team's attempt to test at their home circuit of Monza last month.

Haga Takes Second At Assen

Noriyuki Haga secured a second place for his Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team after another unsettled race day for the Japanese star, with a crash in race one preventing him from a potential double points score at one his favourite tracks. In the first race Haga fell on lap two, after colliding with Ruben Xaus at the slow De Strubben left hand corner, while Corser went on to fight in the leading group for most of the race, only dropping back to fifth in the later stages and finishing 11 seconds from the win after 22 laps.

Haga Second on Provisional Grid at Assen

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) posted an impressive second fastest time in the first qualifying session at the Circuit van Drenthe while riding his number two bike, after an accident in the early part of the hour-long first qualifying session prevented him from using his number one machine. His team-mate Troy Corser spent his first day of action working through various machine settings in preparation for Sunday's 22 lap Superbike races, and thus was an unusually lowly 15th on the first day rankings. Corser had to react quickly to avoid a crash that caused the first of two interruptions to the Superbike qualifying session, and the session was finally ended by a second red flag, with only seconds remaining.

Haga Wins & Corser Scores A Podium

Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team rider Noriyuki Haga could not have had two bigger contrasts in his raceday at Valencia, taking a superb win in the second 23-lap contest, but crashing out of the opener at high speed. His team-mate Troy Corser was rewarded for a consistent first race ride with a podium finish in third, and then went on to score a fighting fifth in race two. Corser's podium came in a race where 20 riders finished and there were many high profile incidents. Corser was a lonely third eventually, some seven seconds from the win. Haga crashed out of race one, losing the front at the first corner on lap four as he tried to make up for qualifying 10th in Superpole.

Yamaha Riders Work Towards Raceday

After finishing regulation qualifying fourth fastest, Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team rider Troy Corser could have expected to make a strong challenge for his 42nd career Superpole win, but a crash late in the pre-Superpole free practice session meant he eventually had to work with his number two machine. He finished Superpole eighth quickest, and now takes a second row start in Sunday's 23-lap Superbike races at Valencia.

Corser Second In Race One As Haga Fights Hard

Troy Corser went through one race of joy and endured one non-finish at the challenging Phillip Island circuit in Australia, taking a masterful second place in race one but falling out of contention for the podium places in race two. On his home track, Corser had to work hard with his Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team to find a good raceday set-up and he made adjustments between races to improve it still more, finding great gains until his race finished early.

Corser On Provisional Pole At Home Circuit

Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) set the fastest lap on the first day at Phillip Island, posting a 1'32.366 lap time on his 17th out of 21 laps. Despite suffering bruising and a pain from two crashes in last week's opening SBK round, Noriyuki Haga battled to 13th today, finding his current suspension settings less than ideal for the ever-changing Phillip Island track surface.

Yamaha GMT94 Team Lead The Way For Yamaha At Donington

With the Yamaha World Supersport Team out of this weekend's race, it fell to other Yamaha-shod teams to try and gain the best qualifying today for the manufacturer. Both Curtain and Parkes suffered broken collar bones in yesterday's free practice resulting in a premature end to the factory-supported team's weekend.

Curtain Takes Runners-Up slot In France

Yamaha Motor Germany's Kevin Curtain took the runners-up spot in the 2006 Supersport World Championship after crashing out at Magny Cours today. The Australian needed to finish eighth or higher to deny Sebastien Charpentier (Honda) the world title for the second year, but crashed out of fourth place on the eighth lap of 22. Charpentier went on to win the race from team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu and become the first rider to win the championship two times.
