Interview With Charpentier WSS Champion
09 October 2006
Sebastien Charpentier (Winston Ten Kate Honda) won both the Magny-Cours race and the 2006 World Supersport Championship after a stunningly dramatic afternoon of action in his home country of France. The 22-lap race was delayed because of the late finish to SBK Race One, and as Charpentier and Kenan Sofuoglu (Winston Ten Kate Honda) led the running order in the early laps, the championship leader, Kevin Curtain, fell on lap eight. Curtain needed to finish only eighth in the race to win the series, but Charpentier was now clear to win both race and title - and did so in some style, from second placed Sofuoglu and Broc Parkes, Curtain's team-mate. In taking his second title in as many years, Charpentier made history by becoming the first rider to score back-to-back WSS title wins.

Toseland And Muggeridge Take Front Row Starts At Magny Cours
08 October 2006
James Toseland (Winston Ten Kate Honda) scored his best lap of the weekend to earn a place on the front row at the final round of the 2006 season. His 1'39.355 lap was the second best overall, as Troy Corser scored pole. Crucially, Toseland's rival for overall second in the championship, Noriyuki Haga, was only fifth fastest, and now starts from one row behind Toseland. James is two points ahead of Haga currently, and only has to keep his nose ahead of the Japanese rider in the 23-lap races to secure second in the final points standings.

Pole For Charpentier With Sofuoglu Second
07 October 2006
Sebastien Charpentier (Winston Ten Kate Honda) lowered the best Supersport lap time at Magny-Cours once more to set pole for Sunday's 22-lap race, despite far from ideal conditions underfoot. It was his eighth pole of the 2006 season. Once again the track and weather conditions conspired to make it a difficult day for the Supersport entrants, and shortly after a very short spell of light rain appeared, Kenan Sofuoglu (Winston Ten Kate Honda) fell at a fast section of the 4.411km circuit, but he escaped without further injury to the leg he injured yesterday. Championship leader Kevin Curtain was only fifth on the grid, good news for Charpentier, who is still in with a chance to retain his championship crown.

Toseland Second Fastest In Peculiar Magny-Cours Conditions
06 October 2006
James Toseland (Winston Ten Kate Honda) made a very positive start to the final round of the championship, running out second fastest at the same circuit he won the 2004 title on, despite concentrating more on machine set-up for race conditions than going for a single blitzing lap. The track was wet in the first session and delivered less grip than during a recent test in the timed session in the afternoon. Toseland is out to score an overall second in the championship in 2006, and a grandstand battle is promised, as his rival for that placing was the quickest rider on day one, Noriyuki Haga.

Charpentier Ready For Last Great Challenge
05 October 2006
Sebastien Charpentier and the Winston Ten Kate Honda team now look to Magny Cours, the last round of the Supersport World Championship, for their latest great challenge - to secure the Supersport world title for the fifth time in a row. Charpentier is some way behind Curtain, the championship leader at this moment, but with the Charpentier everyone saw in Imola, nothing is impossible. That performance was also possible thanks to the Honda CBR600RR and Charpentier’s team-mate, Kenan Sofuoglu, who will once more be trying to help the title fight by scoring another podium.

Objective Second In The Championship For Toseland
05 October 2006
Now that the champion has been crowned, the Winston Ten Kate Honda Team hopes to be able to finish the season overall second in the world standings, courtesy of James Toseland. At the Magny Cours circuit, the English rider will have the opportunity to secure the runner-up spot, rounding out a season that always featured the Dutch team and James battling for the positions that really count. James will have to defend and extend the two-point advantage he has over Noriyuki Haga, but it is not his intention to make too many calculations. His objective is to achieve more victories. He has already taken two race wins, one in Qatar and one in Germany. It is the last chance of the season for Karl Muggeridge, on the other side of the Ten Kate garage, to step on the podium. The Australian has been riding well in the last few races and he is determined to score an important result for his team.

He went down the escape road at turn one, but took a wrong turn in the tyre barrier area, hit the tyres as he attempted to pass between them, and restarted well down on the leaders. He pulled in to retire from the race on lap nine dropping valuable championship points. Sofuoglu also scored the new track lap record, on lap four, with a 1’42.090.

Having qualified tenth in the combined sessions, James Toseland (Winston Ten Kate Honda) showed all his battling qualities in Superpole to earn a hard-won front row start, from third, for Sunday’s 24-lap Superbike races. He improved on his previous best time in a full qualifying session by more than a second and was comfortably faster than his previous best on qualifying rubber this afternoon to boot. James’ team-mate, Karl Muggeridge (Winston Ten Kate Honda), who had out qualified Toseland after the two official timed sessions, made a small error in the first split during Superpole and that cost him enough to drop him to ninth position on the grid, offering him a third row start.
