Prime July Date for 2009 British MotoGP

Donington Park has been given a prime mid-season date for the 2009 British Motorcycle Grand Prix – in the calendar announced by the FIM, the sport’s worldwide governing body, the Leicestershire circuit will host the tenth round of the premier series over the weekend of 24/25/26 July, a month later than this year’s record breaking event. Next year’s event will be the 23rd consecutive running of Britain’s rounds of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix at Donington Park, the first being held on August 2nd 1987 when Australian Wayne Gardner took the premier honours and the most recent, last month, won by Casey Stoner.

Victorious Stoner Homecoming Puts Ducati On Cloud Nine

A triumphant homecoming for Casey Stoner at Phillip Island, at the head of a Ducati one-two with Loris Capirossi, gave the Italian factory the Constructors and Teams World Championship in perfect fashion at the GMC Australian Grand Prix. In his first race since clinching the riders World Championship at Motegi from outside the podium spots, Stoner was able to start the celebrations in earnest with victory number nine of his flawless 2007 season. The Australian joins the likes of Mick Doohan and Wayne Gardner in winning his home race after taking the premier class title, and did so by storming away from the pack right from the off. Given some early trouble by World Championship predecessor Nicky Hayden, once the American had been eliminated from the equation with a mechanical problem, Stoner could go about his business without needing to look over his shoulder too frequently. He eventually took victory by nearly seven seconds.

Star Line Up Of Top Motorcyclists Set To Race At The Goodwood Revival

Legendary motorcycles and top riders are set to star in this year’s Goodwood Revival meeting, taking place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit near Chichester from 31 August to 2 September. The ever-popular Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy motorcycle race is always one of the most exciting and competitive events at the Goodwood Revival. This is the only historic motorcycle race in the world that regularly attracts Italian exotics such as Benelli, Ducati and Moto Guzzi in significant numbers. Battling against them will be British Manx Norton and Matchless machinery as well as early Hondas from the land of the rising sun.
