SBK Official & Development Team Tests – Vallenlunga

Bayliss hits the top slot in first day of official SBK tests at Vallelunga, Canepa second on debut with factory Ducai. Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) dominated the first day of action in official SBK tests at Vallelunga. The tests have been organized in view of the second part of the season and in particular the Italian Round at the Rome circuit on September 21st. The Australian and the Japanese rider were at the top of the standings for almost the entire day, but in the final few minutes Bayliss powered to a time of 1 minute 36.595 seconds, four tenths clear of his closest rivals.

Goodwood Festival 2008 Coming Soon

In just two weeks times, at the 2008 Festival of Speed (11-13 July), Goodwood will assemble a selection of world-beating motorcycles and riders, both past and present. A mouth-watering selection of pre-war two-wheeled machines will be in action on the famous Goodwood hillclimb, including the 1925 JAP V-twin Brough-Superior SS100 – winner of a Brooklands Gold Star in 1926 – plus the ground-breaking three-cylinder supercharged 1939 DKW350SS that has to be heard to be believed.

Corser on Podium in San Marino

Pole position starter Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) looked set for his first win of the 2008 season on two occasions at Misano but he had to settle for a second in race one and a good points score of fifth in race two after running off track and ultimately avoiding a crash. He also set a new lap record, 1'37.580, on lap two of race two, which he led for 10 laps. Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) struggled hard in qualifying and the first race, finding himself only 19th after one lap. He recovered to gain six points for tenth. In race two Haga felt he had a better technical package and he made real progress from his grid position of 14th, to hold off his team-mate by just over a second.

Corser & Haga Take Winning Form to San Marino

After incredible rides at the Nürburgring in Germany both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) will be relishing another chance to compete for top honours at Round 8 of the World Superbike Championship at the Misano circuit on the Adriatic coast of Italy this weekend. Despite suffering from a broken right collarbone, plated and pinned before the Nürburgring race, Haga won both races in the German round, only just beating his team-mate Corser in race two. Arguably Corser looked favourite for the win until the track surface started to become wet, but it was still a miracle for Haga to be anywhere near a double win so soon after his big crash in America.

Misano Cauldron Awaits World Superbike Contenders

The action in the 2008 HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship is undoubtedly set to heat up this weekend as the runners and riders head for the Misano World Circuit cauldron on Italy’s Adriatic Riviera coast for Round 8, the San Marino Round organized in collaboration with the motorcycling federation of the tiny, Italian-speaking but independent, Republic state. With 7 rounds done and dusted, the season now enters its second half and the revised Santamonica circuit could not be a better place for this next phase of the championship, with scorching weather expected at the holiday venue to liven up proceedings. The last two rounds have produced two double winners in Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) at Miller Motorsports Park and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) at the Nurburgring, but more to the point they have seen Troy Bayliss’s leadership grip on a championship gradually come under threat.

Yamaha's Haga & Corser Dominate in Germany

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) stormed to a superb double win at the Nürburgring in Germany today, winning back-to-back 20-lap races to re-ignite his championship challenge. He also takes away the new lap record, thanks to a blistering 1'56.892, set on lap 11 of race two. His team-mate Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was unlucky not to score a podium in race one but was battling for the outright win with Haga in an unbelievable race two, before the threatening rain fell and the race was stopped for reasons of safety. Many fans held their breath for most of race as Hager and Corser swapped places repeatedly with inches to spare between their bikes. By midway they were riding their own race, locked into a Yamaha duel for the chequered flag.

Haga Scores Magnificent Double Win at the Nurburgring

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) scored a fantastic double win at the Nurburgring on World Superbike’s return to the German track for the first time in ten years. Just two weeks after breaking his collarbone in the USA, Haga fought off Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) to win race 1, and then got the better of his team-mate Troy Corser in a rain-shortened second encounter to take the double. Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) took two thirds in front of his home crowd. Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the German Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship, reached a satisfactory overall attendance of 41,000 over the 3 days.

Neukirchner Powers to Superpole in Home Round

Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) powered to a second Superpole win of the season in his home round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at the Nurburgring. The 25-year-old from Stollberg in the former East Germany, set an incredible time of 1 minute 55.471 seconds around the 5.137 km circuit on his Suzuki GSX-R1000. The remainder of the front row was made up of riders from three different manufacturers; Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) was three-tenths of a second down in second place, followed by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), who ten days ago was undergoing surgery on a broken collarbone.

Shark Helmets Score Highly in New Helmet Ratings

The highly anticipated SHARP (Safety Helmet Assessment and Rating Programme) test results were released today by the Department for Transport, with very positive results for French helmet manufacturer, Shark. The top-of-the-range Shark RSR2 (rrp from £319.99) - as worn by top racers like Troy Corser, Randy de Puniet and Leon Camier - scored a maximum five stars, while the RSI (rrp from £199.99), the RSF2i (rrp from £159.99), the S800 (rrp £149.99) and the S500 (rrp from £114.99) all scored a very impressive four-star rating.

Yamaha Riders go Back to the Future in Germany

Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) approach the seventh round of the 2008 World Superbike Championship, at the Nürburgring in Germany this coming weekend, safe in the knowledge that they are as experienced at this circuit as almost any of their peers. Both Yamaha factory riders have raced on the 1998 and 1999 versions of the circuit, located in the Eifel Mountains close to the Belgian border, and will have little difficulty remembering the majority of the layout.

Checa’s Double Win Leaves All to Play for at Nurburgring

The double win by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) in Round 6 of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship two weeks ago at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA succeeded in shuffling the cards in the points standings somewhat as the series reaches the mid-point of the season. With Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) failing to score in both races, the Spaniard has now cut the gap to the top man to just 28 points. What seemed a healthy points cushion for the Australian just a couple of races ago, is now not such a large gap after all, proving that anything can happen in the unpredictable world of Superbike racing. The second new circuit in the space of two weeks is the Nurburgring, which has not hosted a round of the Superbike World Championship since 1999, when the German Round made its second and last visit after the first event in 1998. Four riders in the current world championship line-up have raced Superbike there before – Troy Corser, Noriyuki Haga, Ruben Xaus and Gregorio Lavilla – with the Australian powering to a race 2 win in 1999, while Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi have raced in 500 and 250 respectively and Max Neukirchner in the German championship. Almost one decade has passed since then and this weekend’s Nurburgring race is sure to throw up a few surprises.

Corser on the Podium as Haga Defies Pain for Points

Troy Corser secured his fourth podium of the 2008 season after scoring second in race one, while his team-mate Noriyuki Haga overcame the pain and weakness of his multiple right collarbone fracture to take sixth place in race two, despite suffering yet another crash in the opening race at Miller Motorsports Park. In the first event, delayed by a starting grid mix-up between a few riders, Corser was only 2.8 seconds from his first win in Yamaha race colours, pushing hard once settled into position behind eventual leader Carlos Checa. He was a strong podium finisher, almost four seconds ahead of third placed rider, Michel Fabrizio.

Corser Flying on Day One

Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team rider Troy Corser made a great start to his latest race weekend by posting the second best time of the first official qualifying session at the new SBK venue of Miller Motorsports Park. Corser was one of three WSB riders who went under the previous AMA Superbike lap record, with Troy taking his Yamaha YZF-R1 to a 1'49.636 best. Feeling his way around the 4.905km circuit on his first visit, Noriyuki Haga was still less than a second from provisional pole with a best lap of 1'50.349. Haga was trying out used tyres to make good progress with his overall raceday set-up plan.

Bayliss Quickest in First Qualifying at Miller Motorsports Park

Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) set the quickest time in the first-ever World Superbike qualifying session at the Miller Motorsports Park circuit near Salt Lake City. The Australian clocked a time of 1 minute 49.394 seconds in the one-hour qualifying session, which as a result becomes the new circuit lap record. Second place on the provisional front row, just two-tenths of a second slower, went to another Australian, Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), who also quickly got dialed in to the US track. Corser was closely followed by Spain’s Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda), who headed the timesheets for much of the session, and the increasingly impressive Jakub Smrz (Guandalini Ducati) from the Czech Republic.

Haga & Corser Head to the USA

After two gutsy rides at his team's home circuit of Monza, Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team rider Noriyuki Haga has now moved into overall third in the championship table. At the previous round in Italy Haga only just lost the battle in race one by 0.058 seconds, before going on to win race two by 0.009 seconds. This coming weekend the 33-year-old Japanese star is ready for more podium success at the all-new American WSB venue of Miller Motorsports Park, near Salt Lake City, in the state of Utah. Haga arrived in the USA early to catch up with friends and got the chance to play some golf with legendary racer Kenny Roberts and his family. Riders Enthusiastic About Return of SBK to USA

With one week to go before World Superbike returns to the USA for the first time in four years, the championship regulars have been giving their opinions about the Miller Motorsports Park circuit not far from Salt Lake City and gearing up for what promises to be a spectacular sixth round of the championship on the new 3.048 miles (4.876 kilometre) track. This will be the third different venue for the USA Round after previous World Superbike events held at Brainerd (Minnesota) from 1989 to 1991, and at Laguna Seca (California) from 1995 to 2004.

Haga Takes Win Number Two

Noriyuki Haga overcame some early weekend set-up issues to power his way to a superb race two win for his Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team at their home track of Monza. Having already scored second in the first race this was Haga's best weekend of the year so far and pushed him further up the championship table. He now sits third overall, on 112 points. In the first race Haga pushed hard in the early laps, taking the new lap record of 1'45.882, beating his previous 2007 record as he brought himself forward to join what had been a breakaway trio of eventual winner Max Neukirchner, Yukio Kagayama and eventual third place rider, Troy Bayliss.

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) rode superbly in Superpole to push himself onto the front row for Sunday’s Superbike races at the classic Monza circuit. The Japanese star was double winner at Monza last year and is now in the perfect starting place to go for more wins to add to his Valencia victory and his Assen second place. Haga shares row one with Troy Bayliss, Max Neukirchner and Carlos Checa.

Haga & Corser Chase Set-Up at Monza

Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was the fastest Yamaha rider on show on the first day at Monza, posting a time of 1'47.074 to go 12th fastest overall. He was just over one second from provisional pole, at this long 5.793km circuit. Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) was only three places behind Haga on day one, looking for greater top speed and general set-up to get back into contention at the fastest track on the WSB calendar. Qualifying was conducted in warm and sunny conditions, a great contrast with the deluge of rain that cursed the team's attempt to test at their home circuit of Monza last month.
