Alice Team Ready for First 'Home' Race of Season

After the race on the Shanghai circuit, in China, the MotoGP world championship is back in the old continent for the Alice Grand Prix of France. On the Le Mans circuit, located in the French region of the Loire, Elias didn’t have much luck last year. In fact, his race finished after only one lap from the start. This year, after the improvement shown in China, the Spanish rider hopes to continue to optimize his riding style on the Ducati Desmosedici GP8 SAT in order to gain precious points for the MotoGP world classification.

Yesterday evening, Thursday may 8th 2008, Alice Team rider, Toni Elias, went to the bike show in Barcelona where he meet his fans at the Motocard stand, Alice Team sponsor in the MotoGP World Championship. The 25 years old, who lives in Manresa, near Barcelona, has signed many autograph for his supporters that used this wonderful opportunity to meet their idol. Elias was impressed with the amount of people who showed up at the event, declaring: “Unluckily with our work we are always around the world and we never have the opportunity to dedicate some time to our fans. This has been a fantastic opportunity to meet the people from my area, my first supporters. In fact, many fans met today come from Barcelona or the towns nearby. I have to thank Motocard who gave me this opportunity.”

Bridgstone Chinese GP Debrief

Bridgestone saw the hoped-for return to winning ways at the Shanghai International Circuit in China last weekend with Fiat Yamaha Team rider Valentino Rossi scoring an impressive first victory of the season and his first using Bridgestone tyres. Rossi set the fastest lap of the race, a record-breaking 1m59.273s, on lap 18 of 22. Ducati’s Casey Stoner also made a solid return to the podium with a third-placed finish, making it the second Chinese Grand Prix in succession with two Bridgestone-shod riders on the podium.

Elias in Eighth at The Pramac GP of China

The fourth 2008 MotoGP race started with uncertain track condition. The asphalt has completely dried out a few minutes before the start of the Pramac Grand Prix of China, where the Alice Team riders have respectively started from fifteenth and fourteenth position. Guintoli has done better than his team-mate at the beginning maintaining the thirteenth position until the eighteenth lap when he lost two position and concluded in fifteenth. The opposite has done Toni Elias, who in the sixth lap was in seventeenth position, but after a few laps the Spanish rider found the right rhythm which allowed him to come back and finish the race in eight position. A pity for the not so happy start, seen Toni has registered the fifth fastest lap in the race, not too far from the fastest. A sensible step forward for the Catalan rider who hopes to keep growing in two weeks time, on May 18th, when there will be the Alice Grand Prix of France.

Rossi Takes Maiden Bridgestone Win in China

Fiat Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi took a triumphant victory at the Shanghai International Circuit in China this afternoon to secure his first ever MotoGP victory using Bridgestone tyres. The Italian was embroiled in a race-long battle with Honda’s Dani Pedrosa, but a string of record-breaking lap times in the closing laps ensured a well earned first win of the season, 3.8 seconds clear of Pedrosa. Rossi becomes the sixth rider to take MotoGP victory using Bridgestone tyres after Makoto Tamada, Loris Capirossi, Troy Bayliss, Chris Vermeulen and Casey Stoner.

Fifth & Sixth Row for the Team Alice Pair

Alice Team rider, Toni Elias, didn’t make it to maintain the same position obtained in the first day of work in Shanghai, where he concluded in eleventh position, finishing today’s qualifying session in fifteenth position. The Spaniard was in eight position after half session, but couldn’t make it to use in the best way Bridgestone qualifying tyres. Sylvain Guintoli, seated in the other side of the Alice Team box, has improved his lap times registered during the firsts three free sessions, but it wasn’t enough to conquer a good position in the starting grid. Today’s temperatures were similar to the first day of work on the Shanghai circuit, with the asphalt temperature that reached 48 degrees. Weathermen are promising rain for tomorrow, with more than 80% of possibilities for a wet race.

Elias Grazes The Top Ten

The improvements done in the last test at Estoril have helped the Alice Team in the first day of free practice in China, on the Shanghai circuit. In fact, the Alice Team Spanish rider, Toni Elias, has concluded the firsts two hours of work with the eleventh best lap time notwithstanding a small electronic problem didn’t allow him to be on track in the last ten minutes of the day. The other Alice Team rider, Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli, couldn’t make it to do the same, ending the day in seventeenth position. The asphalt temperature reached this morning 42 degrees and 50 degrees in the afternoon. Tomorrow another day of free practice for the Alice Team duo, before the afternoon qualifying session.

Strong Start for Bridgestone Riders in Shanghai

All six teams using Bridgestone tyres performed strongly in today’s opening two practice rounds at the Shanghai International Circuit, in preparation for Sunday’s Chinese Grand Prix. Fiat Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi was the quickest rider over the entire day, and was the only man to lap under the 2-minute mark, setting a best lap time of 1m59.906s in this morning’s session. Fastest this afternoon was last year’s Chinese race winner Casey Stoner, whose best time of 2m00.163 placed him strongly in second position in the combined practice classification after a competitive day for the reigning champion.

After the step forward taken in the Estoril’s race, where the Alice Team riders, Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli, have respectively equalized and improved their best 2008 performances, MotoGP travels to the a different continent for the Pramac Grand Prix of China. The Chinese circuit, built in 2005, has hosted the same year the first MotoGP race and the main characteristic of this track is the longest (1202m) and fastest straight of the MotoGP calendar, situated just before the finish line straight.

Steps Forwards For The Alice Team At Estoril

At the third appointment of the season, after the difficulties met during the first two Grand Prix races in Qatar and Jerez de la Frontera, the Alice Team riders, Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli, have improved their performances. The end of this not-so-lucky period for the Hispanic-Italian Team is still far, but this can be considered as a good starting point. During the warm up, when the track was wet, Sylvain was at ease on the Estoril circuit, but, unluckily for him, in the first hours of the Portuguese afternoon, the track completely dried out. On the contrary, Toni, who encountered some difficulties in the 25 minutes of morning work concluding in 18th position, found a good setting of the bike in the afternoon and finished in 12th position.

Toni Elias, Alice Team rider, has concluded the third qualifying session of the season in fourteenth place, the same of his best performance conquered at the first race of the season in Qatar. In the other side of the garage Toni’s teammate, Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli, has slipped in the official session after the first few laps. After having concluded the session, the French rider went to the mobile clinic to check the situation of his injury, but, luckily, it doesn’t seems a worrying situation. Sylvain has slightly twisted his left ankle and he shouldn’t have any complication for Tomorrow’s race.

Weather Effects First Day Of Work In Estoril

As promised by the meteorologists in the past few days, the first hour of practice in the Portuguese Grand Prix has been under the rain. At the end of this hour of work for the MotoGP riders, the sky cleared up a bit and the sun dry out the track for the second session. In the first sixty minutes Alice Team French rider, Sylvain Guintoli, has registered interesting lap times positioning in second place until a few minutes left. Once he came back in the box other riders improved their best lap times and the Frenchman concluded in ninth position.

Great anticipation for the third round of the MotoGP World Championship at the Estoril circuit in Portugal. Situated just a few kilometers from the portuguese capital, Lisbon, and not too far from the Atlantic coast, the circuit is characterized not only by a long straight and wide turns, but also from the varying weather conditions. In fact, also for this weekend of racing, the weather forecast seems to foresee rain until Friday morning, sunshine for the qualifying day and, again, some stormy clouds for Sunday. The circuit, today called Fernando Pires da Silva, was built in 1972 and has been part of the MotoGP World Championship since 2000.

Still A Lot Of Work To Do For The Alice Team

Alice Team Catalan rider Toni Elias, who started from the sixteenth position of the starting grid, started well in the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez de la Frontera. At the first time check the Catalan rider was in twelfth position after passing De Angelis, Dovizioso and West. His Team-mate, Sylvain Guintoli, didn’t make it to start in the same way losing a position to Marco Melandri, who started just behind him. But from the second lap things didn’t go too well also for Toni who lost positions until he dropped to fifteenth position, just in front of his team-mate Sylvain Guintoli.

Weather conditions remained good at Jerez de la Frontera for the second day of work on the Spanish circuit. First 1008 MotoGP European qualifying session ended with the Alice Team that conquered the sixteenth and the seventeenth position on the starting grid. Spanish rider Toni Elias has concluded in front of his team-mate, Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli, for just over half of a second. Tomorrow, on the Andalusia circuit, great enthusiasm for the twenty-second Spanish Grand Prix ridden in Jerez with the weather forecast that promises perfect climatic conditions.

First European Working Day For The 2008 MotoGP Season

Sunny day in Andalusia, Spain, on the Jerez de la Frontera circuit, where MotoGP World Championship riders have ridden for the firsts kilometres of the season in the old continent. Alice Team Riders, Sylvain Guintoli and Toni Elias, have tried hard to conquer a good position in the standing, concluding respectively in sixteenth and eighteenth place. The French rider has started well the afternoon session, improving his best morning lap time than almost a second straight away, but a fall in the fifth lap has compromised his work with more than half of the session left. Toni Elias has tried to work on both bikes at his disposal, not finding the right setting to reach higher positions. Tomorrow another hour of free practice for the French-Hispanic duo, before qualifying session that will determine the starting grid of the Spanish Grand Prix 2008, the twenty-second ridden in Jerez.

MotoGP Back In The Old Continent For Spanish GP

In Jerez de la Frontera, town with more than two hundred thousand people, located in the southern part of Spain, the first European Grand Prix of the season will take place after the first exciting race of the year ridden at night in Qatar, where the Alice Team riders Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli have conquered their first world championship points of the 2008 season. First Race & Firsts Points For The Alice Team

Alice Team Riders, Toni Elias and Sylvain Guintoli, have conquered the firsts world championship points in the first race of the MotoGP season on the Losail International circuit in Qatar. The first World Championship historical nocturnal race, hasn’t be so lucky for the French-Hispanic duo, as both riders found some complications during the race. The Spanish rider (Elias) has meet some difficulties straight away since the first laps he was going slower compared to the time registered during warm up.
