Misano Cauldron Awaits World Superbike Contenders
26 June 2008
The action in the 2008 HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship is undoubtedly set to heat up this weekend as the runners and riders head for the Misano World Circuit cauldron on Italy’s Adriatic Riviera coast for Round 8, the San Marino Round organized in collaboration with the motorcycling federation of the tiny, Italian-speaking but independent, Republic state. With 7 rounds done and dusted, the season now enters its second half and the revised Santamonica circuit could not be a better place for this next phase of the championship, with scorching weather expected at the holiday venue to liven up proceedings. The last two rounds have produced two double winners in Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) at Miller Motorsports Park and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) at the Nurburgring, but more to the point they have seen Troy Bayliss’s leadership grip on a championship gradually come under threat.

Haga Scores Magnificent Double Win at the Nurburgring
15 June 2008
Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) scored a fantastic double win at the Nurburgring on World Superbike’s return to the German track for the first time in ten years. Just two weeks after breaking his collarbone in the USA, Haga fought off Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) to win race 1, and then got the better of his team-mate Troy Corser in a rain-shortened second encounter to take the double. Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) took two thirds in front of his home crowd. Despite unfavourable weather conditions, the German Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship, reached a satisfactory overall attendance of 41,000 over the 3 days.

Neukirchner Powers to Superpole in Home Round
15 June 2008
Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) powered to a second Superpole win of the season in his home round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at the Nurburgring. The 25-year-old from Stollberg in the former East Germany, set an incredible time of 1 minute 55.471 seconds around the 5.137 km circuit on his Suzuki GSX-R1000. The remainder of the front row was made up of riders from three different manufacturers; Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) was three-tenths of a second down in second place, followed by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), who ten days ago was undergoing surgery on a broken collarbone.

Checa’s Double Win Leaves All to Play for at Nurburgring
11 June 2008
The double win by Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) in Round 6 of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship two weeks ago at Miller Motorsports Park in the USA succeeded in shuffling the cards in the points standings somewhat as the series reaches the mid-point of the season. With Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) failing to score in both races, the Spaniard has now cut the gap to the top man to just 28 points. What seemed a healthy points cushion for the Australian just a couple of races ago, is now not such a large gap after all, proving that anything can happen in the unpredictable world of Superbike racing. The second new circuit in the space of two weeks is the Nurburgring, which has not hosted a round of the Superbike World Championship since 1999, when the German Round made its second and last visit after the first event in 1998. Four riders in the current world championship line-up have raced Superbike there before – Troy Corser, Noriyuki Haga, Ruben Xaus and Gregorio Lavilla – with the Australian powering to a race 2 win in 1999, while Carlos Checa and Max Biaggi have raced in 500 and 250 respectively and Max Neukirchner in the German championship. Almost one decade has passed since then and this weekend’s Nurburgring race is sure to throw up a few surprises.

Parkes Takes Championship 2nd For Yamaha
08 October 2007
Second place in the race was enough today for Broc Parkes to secure second place overall in the 2007 World Supersport Championship. With four of the top six riders on Yamahas, including Hill who finished in fifth, today's result shows the strong performance of the R6. Both Parkes and Hill got good starts with them taking second and third respectively behind Sofuoglu. Parkes and Sofuoglu proceeded to break away from the rest of the pack and tousle with each other for the win. The two swapped paint as they passed each other numerous times until Parkes' tyre wore off and he had to settle for second. Second place was enough though to secure second championship position for the Australian.

Tough Day At Vallelunga For Yamaha
30 September 2007
Parkes claimed fourth place in today's Supersport race at Vallelunga despite a weekend of set-up challenges. Tommy Hill had an unlucky crash on the first lap of the race which ended his hopes for the day. Parkes made a good start taking second behind pole man Jones but was quickly embroiled in a battle for second place with Sofuoglu. The two riders passed each other several times in the first few laps before Parkes was forced to settle for third. By lap ten the front two riders had created a 3.4 second lead over Parkes, who was suffering with tyre grip issues. By lap 14 Parkes was fending off a challenge for the third spot by Lascorz, who eventually got passed on lap 17. The race was red flagged on lap 19 due to oil on the track and the result taken from the positions on lap 18 as the race had run two thirds distance.

Solid Start For Yamaha In Supersport
29 September 2007
The first day of qualifying got off to a steady but solid start for the Yamaha World Supersport team at Vallelunga today with Hill coming in fifth and Parkes eighth. Things were made all the more interesting today by the weather, which more resembled British weather than Italian with rain and cool temperatures. In addition to the weather conditions, this morning's free practice session was delayed for an hour after oil was dropped on the track five minutes into the session. Following the re-start Hill put in a good number of laps, spending the time learning the track layout and getting an initial set-up.

Yamaha Intent On Closing Gap At Vallelunga
26 September 2007
This Sunday sees the penultimate round take place at Vallelunga, near Rome in Italy and, with only two rounds to go and 41 points separating Haga from first place, this race is key to Yamaha's fight for the championship. The previous round at Lausitz could well prove to be a corner stone in Haga's title fight as he took a win and second place, cutting the gap between him and first place by 25 points. The impact of this result will only really be understood after this weekend's race.

Yamaha Takes The Supersport Win
10 September 2007
Broc Parkes tasted victory today for the second consecutive round when he fended off Sofuoglu to take the chequered flag at the EuroSpeedway circuit in Germany. Team mate Tommy Hill put in a sterling performance to finish fifth. Parkes got a good start and moved up to second straight away behind Sofuoglu. The pair broke away from the rest of the field and the challenge for the race win was on. Parkes and Sofuoglu diced for the lead passing each other virtually every lap until Parkes made a pass on lap 21 that the other rider couldn't respond to. This fight for first took the two riders so far ahead of the field that Parkes ended up 23 seconds ahead of third placed man Lagrive when he crossed the line for the final time. This is Parkes' second win of the season and puts him in third place in championship. After the race there was a query raised about whether Broc had made the final pass on Sofuoglu under a waved yellow flag, but it was not upheld.
