DfT ‘Think!’ Rural Speed Campaign
04 October 2007
The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG UK) supports the new Government ‘Think!’ campaign to raise motorist’s awareness of the dangers of speeding on rural roads. The campaign highlights that in rural areas accidents often involve single vehicles suggesting that drivers are travelling in excess of the speed limit or travelling too fast for conditions. In 2006 325 car drivers were killed on rural roads. As vulnerable road users motorcyclists are often the victims of dangerous, careless and aggressive driving which is exacerbated when that driver behaviour takes place on narrow roads with high hedgerows and limited visibility.

Government Campaign Highlights Hidden Dangers Of Speeding On Rural Roads
03 October 2007
You are three times more likely to be killed on a rural road than an urban one whilst in a car warns a Government educational campaign launched today. The Department for Transport's THINK! Rural Speed Campaign, warning drivers not to go faster than the conditions allow, can be heard on radio stations around the country this month. Rural areas can tempt motorists into driving too fast for the conditions they are facing. Long straights and demanding bends, as well as less traffic and fewer pedestrians can make drivers believe it is 'safe' to go faster than they normally would. But the stark reality is actually the opposite - the risk of fatally injuring yourself or your passengers increases three-fold on a rural road.

Drink Driving Menace to Motorcyclists
25 July 2007
The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG UK) welcomes the government's new anti drink drive campaign which was launched on Friday 20th July 2007. The campaign specifically targets those most likely to drink and drive who have been identified as male drivers between the ages of 17 and 29 years of age. Previous campaigns have involved 'shock horror' imagery but research has shown that this approach makes less of an impact on a generation of youngsters brought up on graphic, violent video games.
