Pirelli Race Review - Monza
A classic Italian weekend started on Thursday 8th May with a press conference, held at the Castello della Bicocca degli Arcimboldi, inside Pirelli’s headquarters in Milan. Many riders from the different classes participated, along with Pirelli and FGSport top-level management. Fanatics around the world watched it live, on the pirellityre.com website. On the racing stage, Pirelli fulfilled its promises by bringing a range of excellent tyres, both in SBK and WSS classes; thus Parkes and Bayliss made new track records at Monza. In SBK, Neukirchner was fast from Friday and ended Superpole in 2nd position, behind Bayliss, and clearly aiming to take his first ever SBK victory at the legendary Monza.

Yamaha Contenders Taken Out at Monza
A promising race at Monza for top Yamaha qualifier Claudio Corti (Yamaha Motor Italia Junior Team) and his fellow R1 runners was ended at the first chicane, in a double crash, which also put out Michele Pirro (Yamaha Lorenzini by Leoni YZF-R1) and Sylvain Barrier (YZF Yamaha Junior Team). No fewer than 11 riders were halted by the results of these crashes, with Corti and Pirro hit by a bike that ran across the infield as another incident took place behind.

Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) shared the wins in the IDS Italian Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in front of a record crowd of 112,000 spectators. The first-ever win for a German rider in World Superbike history came at the end of a sprint finish to the line with Haga, just 0.058 seconds behind at the flag. The final podium place went to championship leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) after a late attack by Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki Alstare), who finished fourth despite a couple of errors at the chicane.

Difficulties for Triples at Monza
09 May 2008
The ultra fast Monza circuit gave hard difficulties to the English three cylinder machines in this first day of the Italian round of the WSBK Championship on the 5793 meters of the historical circuit situated in Milano’s hinterland. After a free practice session full of mechanical and electric troubles fr the afternoon qualifying the bike of Garry McCoy performed a little better, but the Australian “King of Sliding” has been not able to do better as 22nd position, clearly far from the leaders.

09 May 2008
As the gates opened at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza for the traditional SBK Open Paddock, riders taking part in this weekend’s races have been facing up to an intense day of PR activity, both inside and outside the circuit. The first appointment of the day saw six Superbike riders – Troy Bayliss, Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa, Noriyuki Haga, Makoto Tamada and Max Neukirchner, together with the leaders of the other three categories, Joan Lascorz (Supersport), Maxime Berger (Superstock 1000) and Dan Linfoot (Superstock 600) – take part in the traditional pre-event press conference in the delightful 14th century Castello della Bicocca building within the grounds of Pirelli headquarters in Milan.

Haga Returns to Scene of Double Triumph
08 May 2008
The World Superbike Championship moves from the classic circuit of Assen to an even more historic one - Monza - for the fifth round of the series this Sunday, May 11th. Built in 1922, as first a speed bowl and then a fast parkland circuit, Monza is the oldest permanent race circuit in Europe still in regular use. A combination of flat out straights, similarly quick corners, a variety of chicanes and intense braking areas make Monza a unique stop-off on the WSB trail, especially as its Italian parkland cousin Imola is no longer on the calendar.

Bayliss Takes Healthy Points Margin to Monza
08 May 2008
Following his double victory at Assen, Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) will come to Monza for the IDS Italian Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend with a healthy 70 point lead in the table over his closest rivals as the series reaches third distance. In eight races so far on his Ducati 1098 F08, the 39-year-old from Taree has taken the chequered flag on five occasions, finished second twice and has only been off the podium once, in race 2 at Losail. This sort of steamrolling form will guarantee Bayliss an ample cushion from his 178 points in the next few races should a challenge be mounted by the chasing four-cylinder contenders.

Yamaha Riders Race for Points & Prizes at Assen
23 April 2008
The fourth round of the 2008 World Superbike Championship takes place at Assen on Sunday and for the second year in succession this popular race meeting occupies an early season position on the calendar. The legendary Circuit van Drenthe has been much revised over its long lifespan and the last reduction in its overall length took place in 2006, forming what is now a 4.555km ribbon of asphalt. It still features many unique aspects in its design and layout, including a few trademark positive cambers in some of its untouched corners. The track is now, however, much more like a purpose-built venue than the open road circuit it once was, even if the recent work was entirely necessary to provide much-needed space for spectators and parking areas

Pirelli Race Review Valencia
07 April 2008
The third round of the season for the Championship and the first with a full paddock at Valencia. After the first two overseas races the two ‘Stock’ classes started and the paddock was back to its full vitality. The good weather at Valencia allowed the riders to exploit their Pirelli tyres to the full, even on Friday, and records were broken. In the SBK class Max Neukirchner, in the SSP Andrew Pitt and even in the two Stock classes: there were new track record in all the classes and several more riders were under the previous records.

Pirelli Race Review Magny-Cours
08 October 2007
Once again a dramatic end was in store for the SBK championship, with three riders still battling for the title on the eve of raceday. James Toseland arrived at Magny-Cours leading by 29 points over Max Biaggi and Noriyuki Haga, and since the first session ‘JT’s’ idea was clear: he came here to prove he truly deserves the number 1 plate. With his fabulous Superpole time, under 1’39, Max Biaggi re-entered his pitbox celebrating, but immediately after his opponents stuck in some really fantastic laps, relegating him to 7th place.

SBK Season Set For Awesome Finale In France
04 October 2007
For the first time since the 2004 season the World Superbike title fight will go to the very last round of the year, and once more the title decider will be played out around the 4.411km circuit of Magny-Cours, in the centre of France. After a startling series of events in the previous round, just one weekend before the season finale, three riders are still in with a chance of absolute title glory - two seasoned SBK campaigners and one 'rookie'.

Two Troys Go To War On First Day Of Vallelunga Hostilities
29 September 2007
The penultimate round of the 2007 World Superbike Championship kicked off at Vallelunga with two riders enjoying a clear early advantage over their peers - Australian's Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia) and Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox). Only 0.041 seconds separated their best time at the first ever qualifying session at the Vallelunga circuit near Rome, with Corser the early best on 1'37.537. Next closest rider to the top two was Corser's team-mate, Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) on a 1'37.951.

Competition History To Be Made In The Eternal City Once More
27 September 2007
For the first time since World Superbike competition began back in 1988, Vallelunga - the 'home' track of series organisers FGSport - is set to host SBK weekend, with track action beginning on Friday 28th September and culminating on Sunday 30th. Work at the 4.110km circuit, located some 30km north of the Italian capital city of Rome, has been ongoing for months to get the paddock and facilities ready for the biggest event the track has ever held. The circuit will feature some unique challenges for both local riders and the massed nations of World Superbike competitors, and it includes ultra-slow and ultra-fast corners. Despite most of the top teams and riders having tested at Vallelunga at some stage, this will be a new experience for many of them in real race conditions.

Pirelli Race Review– Lausitz
10 September 2007
A surprising first row, on a tricky racetrack made more difficult due to the weather conditions. Riders on Saturday found a challenging situation, because of a racetrack that offered poor grip. Lausitzring is a circuit which seldom offers good grip in any conditions, but this time was worse than usual because of the rubber left on the racetrack by previous car races. Superbike had to deal with a wet Superpole, and Nieto and Laconi, the two official Kawasaki riders, were the first to enter the racetrack and took the 1st and 2nd positions, exploiting the first few seconds of dry tarmac. With them on the first row were Bayliss and Corser, on Ducati and Yamaha respectively.

Toseland The Target For The Rest
05 September 2007
With three rounds and thus six individual points scoring races left to run in the SBK championship, an overall season strategy can be put aside by the top contenders. For long-time championship leader James Toseland (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) all he needs to do is keep racking up points and podiums to maintain or increase his impressive 66-point championship lead. For the rest of the top five (the only riders still in with even an arithmetical chance of the championship win itself) have to make up Toseland’s advantage, without worrying about the progress of any other rider. This simplification of the rules of engagement should heighten, not reduce the ferocity of the front running competition, which recommences after a month’s lay-off since round ten at Brands Hatch. At that event Toseland scored a double win, his first in World Superbike, but his rivals will be hoping that a change to the flat, featureless and generally tight EuroSpeedway Lausitz circuit will allow them to get back into closer company with Honda’s top rider.

Pirelli Race Review - Brands Hatch
07 August 2007
This was the last race before the summer break, as usual held at Brands Hatch: perhaps the most eagerly anticipated circuits on the calendar, and featuring one of the most difficult track layouts for the riders and teams. Once again the British weather in August was kind to SBK, despite Friday’s worries of rain. On Saturday a warm sun took the riders through the qualifying sessions, with a great result for Pirelli: both SBK and SSP riders made long runs with positive outcomes and most of all they did it using tyres sold on the everyday market. Bayliss set Superpole, while in Supersport the rejuvenated world champion of 2005 and 2006, Charpentier, scored pole position in front of his team-mate Sofuoglu, the real 2007 title pretender.

Toseland Sets Personal Bests And Edges Ahead
07 August 2007
After the wettest summer ever in the UK, the local British crowd got to worship their latest local sun god in perfect conditions at Brands Hatch, as James Toseland (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) basked in the glow of his first ever World Superbike double win, scored his first ever wins at Brands Hatch, and took a huge 66 point lead into the final three rounds, which appear after the traditional summer break. Toseland’s wins were his seventh and eighth of the year, and he has now won three of the last four races.

London Calling To The SBK Hordes
31 July 2007
The legendary status of London's closest racetrack in the collective memories of the SBK world is quite simply unsurpassed. The natural restrictions which make Brands Hatch one of the more difficult venues in which the teams have to work are also what make it one of the most entertaining and rewarding short circuits imaginable. By and large nature has dictated the shape and layout of the 4.197km Brands long circuit, and, as is often the case, nature has proved the best designer of all. From the impossibly challenging Paddock Hill Bend to the high-speed turns of Hawthorn's; from the uphill/downhill Druids Hairpin to the main straight - which is not in fact straight at all - Brands Hatch is a natural amphitheatre to the deities of the internal combustion engine. Other tracks, such as Assen and Monza, have had longer Motorsport lives, but for SBK racing Brands Hatch is its own true place of devotion. This is, in large part, thanks to the endless enthusiasm for SBK racing shown by the British spectators, and the close proximity of Brands to Britain's most populous city.

Championship Battle Builds As Brno Comes On Line
18 July 2007
Considering it was built in a period where slow-paced geometric circuits were the norm, the layout at Brno still relies on natural topography for much of its character, and that fact makes it one of the most eagerly awaited venues for all SBK riders. This will be the 5.394km circuit's fifth year hosting SBK races, with two events in the nineties now added to by the 2005 and 2006 meetings. Each modern era race has been won by riders still fully active in the 2007 championship chase, making the 2007 races even more of a tantalising prospect for all. Brno is the perfect place to get competitive action back on the agenda, after two recent test sessions - one here at Brno for the top tyre development teams only, and then a more recent outing to new track of Vallelunga for all the SBK and WSS teams who wished to attend.
