Brown Takes First CAS Honda Podium Of The Season
29 May 2007
The sixth round of the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship, the Grand Prix of Japan at the Sugo circuit, May 27 saw Billy Mackenzie take the GP win but CAS Honda's Mike Brown clinched victory in the second moto and scored the first podium result of the season for the CRF450R with runner-up position overall. The veteran celebrated his first moto victory since Red Bud 2005 (AMA Nationals) and his first in the World Championship since 2000 and the German Grand Prix at Gaildorf. In front of 24,000 spectators at the rough, hard and technical course close to Sendai city Brown, on his maiden visit to Sugo, placed fifth in the first moto behind a runaway Mackenzie while Jonathan Barragan was second, Josh Coppins third and David Philippaerts fourth. Mackenzie was leading the second race ahead of Brown but an untimely crash let the American, who again started so well in both sprints, through to own the chequered flag.

Coppins Stretches Podium Record With Third At Sugo
28 May 2007
Yamaha Motocross Team's Joshua Coppins continued his 100% podium record with third place overall at a cloudy and windy Sugo circuit - crowded by 24,000 spectators -for the Japanese Grand Prix and the sixth round of fifteen in the FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship today. The New Zealander rode to a brace of third positions on the works YZ450F-FM in front of the attending Yamaha president Mr Kajikawa and company employees, and thanks to a poor day for his most direct title rival, Kevin Strijbos, he extended his lead in the championship standings to more than one Grand Prix with 63 points in total.

Cairoli Stays On Podium After Tricky Japanese GP
28 May 2007
Yamaha De Carli's Antonio Cairoli saw his winning streak of five Grand Prix come to an end in Japan but the Sicilian - who announced a new three year agreement with Yamaha the same day - took a second moto win and second position overall behind arch-rival Christophe Pourcel in the sixth meeting of the MX2 campaign. Sugo was another capable circuit on which Cairoli could show off his speed and skills. The mud was hugely technical by virtue of the holes, dips and bumps that carved very quickly into the surface. The course demanded concentration but also allowed for individual expression thanks to the choice in racing lines and vast jumps.

After an excellent start in the first MX1 race on the Sugoland motocross circuit north of Tokyo where KTM Red Bull factory riders Jonathan Barragan and David Philippaerts were second and fourth respectively, the MX1 riders were unable to convert the result. The Italian Philippaerts managed sixth in race two for an eventual overall fourth position, whereas the Spaniard Barragan crashed several times and when he was among one of a number of riders who came unstuck going over the tabletop he decided to retire from race two.

First GP Win This Season For Christophe Pourcel In Japan
27 May 2007
It seems that the Japanese round of the Motocross World Championship suits Christophe Pourcel and his Team GPKR. One year ago in Sugo he obtained the red plate as leader of the series and this weekend - on the bumpy Japanese track - he collected his first Grand Prix win of the season. Home of the Japanese round for three years now, Sugo is without any doubt one of the roughest track of the series. Designed in a natural valley, the circuit has a soft ground with sand and wood chippings mixed into the earth. After heavy rain on Friday the riders had to deal with deep ruts and bumps through practice and into the races on this challenging but demanding layout.

27 May 2007
KRT rider Billy Mackenzie’s continued domination of the Grand Prix of Japan at the Sugo circuit set a number of landmarks today in front of 24,000 spectators and a large crew of appreciated Team Green staff. The 23 year old, who has won the MX2 class at Sugo in 2005 and 2006, became the first ever British rider to triumph in the MX1 category with first and second positions and also provided the potent KX450-F SR with its maiden victory in the premier competition of the FIM Motocross World Championship. His ‘overall’ success under cloudy skies and occasional sunshine came about in only the Scot’s sixth Grand Prix in KRT colours.

Ramon Fifth On Sugo Gate
26 May 2007
Team Suzuki's Steve Ramon finished Timed Practice with the fifth fastest lap at a sunny but breezy Sugo for the Grand Prix of Japan and the sixth round of 15 in the 2007 FIM MX1 World Championship. The Sugo circuit was as well prepped and challenging as it had been for the previous two years. The soft terrain had a liberal coating of heavy rain throughout Friday afternoon that caused the mud to become rough and rutty very quickly into the practice and qualification schedule. Some sections remained boggy and slippery which presented some problems.
