MotoGP Rookies' Take Home the Cup.
15 September 2008
The Red Bull Riders Cup was seized by the visiting MotoGP Rookies Team as they swept the leaderboard at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. In tricky damp to wet conditions 16 year old Norwegian Sturla Fagerhaug rode superbly to head home 16 year old South African Mathew Scholtz and 17 year old Briton Matthew Hoyle.

Win to Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Fagerhaug, Cup to Beach
17 August 2008
Sturla Fagerhaug won a superb, race long, battle with Matthew Hoyle to win the last race of the 2008 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and by pushing Luis Salom back to third gave JD Beach the Cup even though the 16 year old American failed to finish due to a mechanical failure. Norwegian 16 year old Fagerhaug shot away from the line only slightly behind pole sitter Mathew Scholtz and soon swept into the lead. He raced away and made 17 year old Briton Hoyle work hard as the Brno lap record holder gave chase. Salom was coming off the back of the grid having crashed in Saturday's race but was riding superbly and up to 9th by the end of the first lap. A lap later he was third with only Fagerhaug and Hoyle ahead.

Last Double Chance for Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
12 August 2008
It all comes down to two races at Brno this coming weekend to decide the 2008 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. There are still 50 points at stake for a double victory so while the favourites are 16 year old American JD Beach and Spaniard Luis Salom who turned 17 on August 7th it is not just a two rider contest. Norwegian 16 year old Sturla Fagerhaug and 14 year old Japanese Daijiro Hiura both have mathematical chances of wining the Cup and will certainly play an important part in the outcome of the two races, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday August 17th.

Just three races to go in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup season and there are two thrilling prizes to play for: The first is the Rookies Cup and in that battle Luis Salom remains the season long leader from JD Beach and Sturla Fagerhaug. The second dream is to be a member of the 10 man Riders Cup team heading for Indianapolis and a clash with the best of the AMA U.S. Rookies on September 14th.

Red Bull Rookies Oliveira's Stunning Double
30 June 2008
Miguel Oliveira won his second Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race in 7 days. The 13 year old Portuguese rode superbly to pull through from 7th at the end of lap one to steal the lead from fast starting 15 year old German Daniel Kartheininger with three of the 16 laps remaining. Kartheininger then crashed leaving Sturla Fagerhaug to take second in a last corner fight with Matthew Hoyle who was third leaving Daijiro Hiura 4th. "I am so happy to score a second win in this Cup, I can hardly believe it," said Oliveira. "It was so hard early on. I didn't make a good start and we had a big battle with a lot of riders all trying so hard. When I managed to get through to second I just pushed and pushed to catch Dani. When I got in front I could see from the big TV screens that he was chasing me. I just went as fast as I could, I saw that he wasn't behind me on the last lap but I didn't know he had crashed."

Red Bull MotoGP Rookie Sturla Hangs Onto Pole
27 June 2008
In blustery conditions few improved their lap times in the final 30 minute qualifying session so Sturla Fagerhaug, Luis Salom, Daniel Kartheininger and Daijiro Hiura remain the front row for Saturday's Dutch round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. Lying second in the Cup standings, JD Beach did better his time but the sixteen year old American was still frustrated to be in 7th place, less than 1.2 seconds off pole. "It just isn't really coming to me like it did earlier in the season. Then at the end I was on a pretty good lap and the engine cut out. Tomorrow I've just got to get away with the guys at the start and make a race of it."

MotoGP Red Bull Rookie Sturla Takes the First Day
26 June 2008
Sturla Fagerhaug sits on provisional pole after the first of two qualifying sessions for Saturday's Dutch round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. The 16 year old Norwegian was fast and consistent throughout the 30 minutes and was 0.297 seconds quicker than Cup leader Luis Salom at the end. "It went pretty well," said Fagerhaug. "Early on I was in quite a bit of traffic and I did not want to pull the others along so I waited. Towards the end I was on my own and the bike was working well and I was happy to put in some good laps. We'll see if the wind changes much for tomorrow otherwise there is no need to change the bike, it seems pretty good."

Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup - Donington & Assen Preview
16 June 2008
Two great venues, Donington and Assen open the second half of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup season. With five races remaining there is nothing comfortable about the 13 point lead that Spaniard Luis Salom has over American JD Beach. The two 16 year olds will not just be fighting each other anyway as Sturla Fagerhaug, Daijiro Hiura, Mathew Scholtz, Nelson Major and others all have ideas about winning and putting themselves into the chase for the Cup. 16 year old Norwegian Fagerhaug stands out as the man who has so far failed to score the result that his clear ability and pre season testing times show he is capable of. Often it has been his bad start or slow opening laps that have proved a handicap and he knows very well that he must get over that.

Sebestyén on Pole
30 May 2008
Hungarian 14 year old Peter Sebestyén remembered that he loves riding in the rain in time to take command of a very wet practice day for Saturday's Italian round of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at Mugello. The more regular front runners Sturla Fagerhaug and JD Beach were 2nd and 3rd fastest with Cup leader Luis Salom down in 18th after a fall in the first qualifying session put his bike out of action for the second. “I've always loved racing in the rain but I haven't had a wet race for so long that when we went out in the wet for the free practice this morning I thought I had forgotten how to do it,” said Sebestyén. “This afternoon I just concentrated on being relaxed and smooth and it started to come back to me. As I started to enjoy it I went quicker and quicker.”

Almost Half Way for Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup
28 May 2008
Half distance approaches in the 2008 Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup with the 5th of 10 races held this weekend in Mugello. Just 8 points separate leader Luis Salom from JD Beach and they will be pressed hard by Daijiro Hiura, who beat them both in Portugal. Being only 13, Japanese ace Hiura had to miss the last round in France but is in action again at the Italian round with a good chance of putting his title attack back on track thanks to the rule that all riders must drop one result from their Cup points total at the end of the season. While he hopes for his second victory 16 year old American Beach is still looking for his first win after taking second in all 4 rounds so far.
