Plater Claims Pole for AIM Yamaha at NW200

Steve Plater has claimed pole position for the start of the two Supersport races at the Kennedy International North West 200 races on Saturday while AIM Yamaha teammate Ian Hutchinson was fourth fastest and will start from row two. Plater had been running pole for most of the session until Alastair Seeley posted a quick lap towards the end of Thursday’s final qualifying to take over at the top of the timing sheet. But Plater was quick to respond with a time of 4m 33.749 seconds on his very last lap beating Seeley by 0.503s to start Saturday’s two Supersport races from pole position. Last year Plater finished second and a very close fourth in the two six-lap events and will be hungry for the win this time around.

AIM Yamaha Get Seventh at Brands

Ian Hutchinson rode the AIM Yamaha R6 to a fine seventh place in an incident packed British Supersport race at Brands Hatch on Sunday. Running in his starting position of eighth on the first lap Hutchy was prevented from moving further forward because of the safety car presence in the early laps and when the race finally got back underway he was demoted to ninth and then 11th place before settling into the race and making a move forward to eighth position

AIM Yamaha Head to Brands Hatch

AIM Yamaha will be fielding just the one rider in the rearranged Brands Hatch opening round of the British Superbike championship. Although Steve Plater claimed a 13th place in the qualifying that took place at the postponed meeting back in April he will be unable to take his place on the gird because of a date clash with the Albacete round of the World Endurance championship. However, Ian Hutchinson will be in attendance at Brands Hatch where he will contest the British Supersport race on Sunday.

AIM Yamaha Bring Points in at Oulton

Both AIM Yamaha riders, Steve Plater and Ian Hutchinson brought more points back to the team from Oulton Park on Monday, Plater scoring a 12th place in the second Superbike race and Hutchy a ninth on the Supersport event. A few niggling teething issues with the bike disrupted Plater’s free practice sessions but these appeared to be resolved in time for the 50- minute qualification period on Sunday. As the track began to dry Plater switched to a qualifying tyre but on the run to Druids the chain snapped and he had to jog back to the garage and jump on his spare bike.

AIM Yamaha Head to Oulton Park

Team AIM Yamaha heads to the Cheshire circuit of Oulton Park for round two of the British Superbike championship which is set to take place at the 2.692-mile International circuit over the Bank Holiday weekend – May 3-5. Lincolnshire rider and AIM Yamaha team coordinator Steve Plater returns to action with the team after missing the opening round because of a date clash with the Le Mans 24-hour race. He will be eager to get as much track time in as possible to find a suitable set-up in readiness for the North West 200 race and the TT which are looming up fast.

CJ Riders Fund Ready for Thruxton

After the snow swept Brands Hatch, the CJ Riders Fund still had a very successful weekend at what was meant to be the opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Six inches of snow put a stop to the racing on Sunday, (6th April) and the meeting has now been rescheduled for May. The CJ Fund used the weekend to their advantage and had a practice run with their new CJ Unit, which worked perfectly and was situated in an ideal spot at Brands. The new CJ Promo Girls worked exceptionally hard throughout the weekend despite the freezing conditions, they still plugged away in their lycra suits collecting monies, look out for them at Thruxton!

Sean Emmett Joins AIM Yamaha At Thuxton

Alistair Flanagan is pleased to announce that he has secured the services of Sean Emmett to replace Steve Plater at Thruxton. Plater is absent because of World Endurance duties with GMT94 Yamaha at the Le Mans 24-hour race this weekend and Emmett will contest both races in the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike season opener at Thruxton for the team. Due to the severe weather conditions the Brands Hatch date had to be postponed and will now take place over the weekend of May 10/11 with qualifying times gained at the Kent circuit carried forward to the rearranged date.

Byrne Takes Pole For Opening Round

Shane Byrne underlined his credentials for a determined bid to regain the Bennetts British Superbike crown as he powered his Airwaves Ducati onto pole start for the opening round at Brands Hatch. The rider who began his racing career at the Kent circuit, taking a victory on that day, had been the dominant force throughout free practice and he carried that pace through to the grid deciding session, finally overcoming a determined challenge to his supremacy by HM Plant Honda rider Cal Crutchlow.

Very Successful Dinner for the CJ Fund - £20’000 Raised

The Chris Jones Annual Awards Dinner was deemed a huge success by all those that attended on Saturday night with around £20,000 being raised for this worthy cause. With nearly 500 guests on the evening it was a busy schedule and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. With compare for the evening being Trevor T who did a splendid job and who had everyone up dancing round the tables before the evening began, it was always set to be an entertaining night!

Lavilla Shatters Record To Claim Pole

Gregorio Lavilla powered in the fastest ever two wheeled lap of the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit to claim pole start for the final round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, posing problems for the three riders gunning for the country’s premier crown. Ryuichi Kiyonari, the reigning champion, is in the driving seat to retain the silverware, starting with a 37 points advantage over his HM Plant Honda team-mate Jonathan Rea, while Leon Haslam, the double race winner of Donington Park, is third, a further four points down.

Plater Crashes At Rain Soaked Oulton!

Steve Plater went down hard yesterday afternoon at Oulton Park BSB practice day in the very wet second session. After climbing Clay Hill at max speed he crested the hill and the bike slid from under him, sending both Steve and the Yamaha R1 into the tyre wall at close to 100mph. When he came to a stop the marshalls raced to him and a medical officer was on scene in less than a minute, with the ambulance and medical cars only a minute further away.

Motorcycle Academy has attracted thousands of fans who have benefited from exciting activities and important safety messages. On the circuit, the established stars have been battling it out with a horde of young riders with four rookies in the top factory teams providing a strong challenge to the established order. Similarly, the Academy has seen regular appearances from both veteran BSB Champions and these new young riders, with racers dedicating their valuable time to taking part on the THINK! unit.

Rizla's Shakey Goes Out Fighting

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne crashed out unhurt while battling for the lead in the second race at the 11th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire today. After taking fourth in the opening race, held in wet but drying conditions, Shakey was in determined mood for the dry second race. He made an excellent start and led for the first lap, before settling behind Gregorio Lavilla. The pair broke away from the pack and Shakey was closing in on the reigning Champion when he crashed on the exit to Charlie’s and retired.

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne rode a fantastic final qualifying lap to secure third place on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s Bank Holiday double-header 11th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park. As the session drew to an end, Shakey’s crew changed his rear tyre in under 30-seconds so he could get out for a final qualifying lap. He didn’t disappoint and recorded his fastest time of the weekend.

Top 10 For Rizla Suzuki In Practice

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne was sixth and Steve Plater 10th in today’s first practice sessions for the 11th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park. In overcast but dry conditions, Shakey set his fastest time in the morning session at the 2.18-mile long picturesque circuit. He tried new settings in the afternoon and although he didn’t record as quick a lap time, he has a clear plan for making progress tomorrow.

Cadwell Park Homecoming For Plater

Cadwell Park is Steve Plater’s home circuit and the Rizla Suzuki racer will be counting on the support of the local fans during this Bank Holiday Monday’s 11th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at the Lincolnshire track. Plater, from Woodhall Spa, just 15-miles from the 2.18-mile long picturesque Cadwell Park, has won both Superbike and Supersport races at his home venue in the past.

Plater On Rizla Suzuki At Cadwell Park Test

Steve Plater will stand in for Rizla Suzuki’s injured James Haydon at tomorrow’s official British Superbike test at Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire, alongside Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne. James was examined by BSB series doctor Toby Branfoot, in Leeds yesterday, who ruled he was not fit to ride at the test. The Rizla Suzuki racer is fighting his way back to full fitness after breaking his left foot and damaging his left shoulder and knee in a crash at Snetterton in June.

Strong Debut Outing For Shakey At Croft

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne narrowly missed the rostrum on his first Superbike visit to Croft in North Yorkshire for the 10th round of the Bennetts British Championship. In a treacherously wet second race, Shakey recovered from an uncharacteristic poor start and an early run off the track to chase down the leaders. He would have challenged for third if the race – which had been shortened by two laps due to the weather – had run its full distance. In the opening race, plagued by drizzling rain on a dry track, he took fifth place.
