Vehicle Speeds In Great Britain - 2006

With all of the hype over motobikes speeding more than cars, the government have released some very interesting statistics. Although the percentage of cars and bikes speeding were similar, the fact is that motorbikes carry higher sppeds when breaking the law. Here's what they have to say.

March '06'

Latest statistics from the MCI show that 16,898 bikes and scooters were registered for road use in March 2006, up 11% on March 2005 figures. The top selling bike so far in 2006 is the new Yamaha R6, with over 630 registrations, plus the CBR1000RR and GSXR1000 aren't far behind, sportbikes are at last making a comeback.

Motorcycle Registrations Up - Stat's March '06'

Overall registration figures of motorcycle, mopeds and scooters were up eight percent for the year to date in March 2006. Year to date statistics for motorcycle registrations saw a notable increase of nine percent, scooters increased by five percent and mopeds remained stable.

Two Million Camera Cropper!

A new report shows that Speed cameras are costing the British public a staggering £150 million a year plus. The revenue coming in from fines alone come to more than £114 million and higher insurance premiums are bringing in up to £36 million. The amount of speeding convictions have trebled over the last ten years, convicting 2.2 million motorists.

Winter Motorcycle Market Sale Statistics Released

Figures released by the Motor Cycle Industry Association today show that 4,814 new motorcycles were registered for the road during February 2006, 6.3% fewer than in February 2005. This brings the year-to-date total for 2006 to 11,380 new bike registrations, 2.4% higher than in 2005. The February car registrations were down 1.4% on January, but 9.75% year to date.

UK Accident DFT Stats For 2004

The UK DFT agency has released its 2004 road accidents statistics report, which makes for interesring reading. The good news for bikers is that serious and fatal accidents were down, by a substantial 16%. But the bad news is that the department's own flawed system of calculating statistical trends lists this as only being a 10% reduction.
