Double Trouble For Speeders
10 November 2007
Drivers face being banned for just two speeding offences under Government plans to double the penalty for those who break the limit excessively, London Bikers has learned. It is understood that motorists caught driving at 45mph or above in a 30mph limit are likely to receive a tougher fixed penalty of six points and a £100 fine, an increase on the flat rate of three points and a £60 fine.

Government Campaign Highlights Hidden Dangers Of Speeding On Rural Roads
03 October 2007
You are three times more likely to be killed on a rural road than an urban one whilst in a car warns a Government educational campaign launched today. The Department for Transport's THINK! Rural Speed Campaign, warning drivers not to go faster than the conditions allow, can be heard on radio stations around the country this month. Rural areas can tempt motorists into driving too fast for the conditions they are facing. Long straights and demanding bends, as well as less traffic and fewer pedestrians can make drivers believe it is 'safe' to go faster than they normally would. But the stark reality is actually the opposite - the risk of fatally injuring yourself or your passengers increases three-fold on a rural road.

10 April 2007
With all of the hype over motobikes speeding more than cars, the government have released some very interesting statistics. Although the percentage of cars and bikes speeding were similar, the fact is that motorbikes carry higher sppeds when breaking the law. Here's what they have to say.

Speed Camera's Operating To Different Rules!
02 April 2007
The way speed cameras are set up to catch drivers varies "massively" around the country, researchers have found. Motorists can drive up to 15mph over the speed limit before they are flashed by a camera in some areas, and in others, they will rarely be pursued to pay their fine. Researchers at Oxford University's Said Business School embarked on the study of the nation's speed cameras as part of an investigation into how our activities are increasingly regulated by technology.

Motorbike Speed Limiters - What Ever Next!!
29 March 2007
MP's called today for a Government study on the possibility of introducing speed limiters on motorbikes. Motorcycle accident rates were "far too high" and it was time for "radical action", a report from the House of Commons Transport Committee added. They also said that it was "unacceptable" that the biggest motorcycles were more polluting than cars, the committee said, and the illegal use of mini motos by adults as well as children was "making life a misery for communities up and down the country".

Ex-policeman Jailed Over Bid To Dodge Speeding Fine
14 March 2007
An ex-police officer who tried to dodge a speeding fine by claiming a Frenchman was driving his vehicle at the time was jailed today. Hrm, now surely it's not a common occurrence for somebody to get a jail term for perverting the course of justice and speeding 8mph over the limit? Copper or no copper, it's harsh, but I guess the lying was what got the judge's goat (doesn't this happen every time a guilty person defends themselves?).

SPECS Camera's on M25
14 March 2006
The Holmesdale tunnel, which is the tunnel by junction 25 on the M25 is going to have SPECS cameras fitted in it. They are rear facing ones so bikes will be read as well. These are very small CCTV type cameras which work on ANPR-type number plate readings. They are a set distance apart and read your number plate as you pass each camera. If you travel between the two in too short a time frame, then you are obviously speeding and your picture is taken.

Almost All Speed Camera Cases Should Be Thrown Out
01 March 2006
Nearly all speed camera prosecutions are based on inadmissible evidence and can therefore be thrown out, according to Motor Cycle News. Defendants are not given evidence on time and camera scheme organisers are breaching the 1967 Criminal Justice Act by not providing a photo or video evidence of an offence at least seven days before a trial, Motor Cycle News (MCN) said in its latest edition.

Lords asked to rule on speed trap case
08 February 2006
As if further proof was needed that the current Government/Police's strategy on making money (and misery) out of the average road user was needed, it now seems that that whilst the Police tout their mantra of speeding kills, and that they set up speed-traps at accident hot-spots to try and prevent further accidents, it's now illegal for citizens to warn others that a speed-trap lay ahead.
