Shane Byrne set the fastest time in both practice sessions in round one of the 2008 British Superbike season at Brands Hatch today. Leon Camier, who is still suffering from a sore shoulder since his crash in Calafat, put in an excellent performance to come 7th and 5th.

Airwaves Ducati Confident Ahead Of Season Opener

Airwaves Ducati commence their 2008 season at Brands Hatch in round one of the British Superbike championship this weekend. Following a successful winter of testing which saw the team travel to Almeria and Calafat, the Airwaves backed GSE Racing team will compete for the first time aboard their new Ducati 1098R's on the 2.3 mile Brands Hatch GP circuit.

Airwaves Ducati today completed their second successful test of 2008. The 2.02 mile Calafat circuit presented some difficult conditions for the riders but both were pleased with their performance throughout the 4 day test.

Airwaves Ducati will head to Calafat in Spain this weekend for their second test of 2008. Having completed a very successful 3 day test in Almeria last week the team are keen to get back to work at the 2.02 mile Catalonian circuit, where they will be testing from Monday 10th until Thursday 13th March.

Airwaves Ducati will commence their 2008 testing schedule with a 3 day test at Almeria, starting on Monday 25th February. Before the new season gets underway at Brands Hatch on April 6th, the Airwaves Ducati team are due to test at Calafat and the official BSB test at Snetterton on 22nd – 24th March. However, the 4km long Almeria circuit in southern Spain will be the first outing for the Airwaves Ducati team on the new Ducati 1098R’s.

Sykes Storms to Knockhill Front Row

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport rider Tom Sykes posted third fastest in qualifying for round seven of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship as the weather interrupted proceedings at Knockhill in Scotland yesterday. The 21 year old Yorkshireman took advantage in the early minutes of the one and only qualifying session to seal his best qualifying position of the season as shortly after he set his fastest lap the heavens opened and the rain came down.

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne overcame a high speed crash during qualifying to record his best two results of the season with a pair of second places at round six of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship held at Mondello Park today. Riding the VK and Vent Axia backed machine Byrne led both races and was looking good for a victory as the races were held in dry conditions after two days of heavy rain but the Dunlop-shod rider repelled the main championship protagonists as he battled it out at the front.

Tom Benefits From Shakey’s Misfortune At Mondello

The Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport pairing of Shane Byrne and Tom Sykes will start both of tomorrow’s races from row two of the grid following an incident packed qualifying session at Mondello Park today. In wet weather conditions, Byrne, who qualified on pole position at the previous round at Snetterton, was looking good for a front row start but late in the session crashed at high speed causing the session to be stopped.

He had just taken delivery of a brand new MV Agusta Brutale 910R from leading MV dealer North Leicester motorcycles and was rightly proud of his latest acquisition. Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne overcame the disappointment of a race one retirement to bounce back with a superb podium finish in race two at round five of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship held at a hot and humid Snetterton circuit in Norfolk today. After starting from pole position, the 30 year old Zurich based Londoner was hopeful of a good performance at a circuit he traditionally does well at but his hopes were dashed early on in the opening race when an electrical problem caused the VK backed Honda Fireblade to slow.

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne very nearly claimed the first pole position in three long years for Paul Bird’s team when he looked to have set fastest time in qualifying today for round three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Silverstone. The 30 year old Londoner lapped the 2.21 mile Northamptonshire circuit in a time of 1m 25.616s and looked to have boxed off the fastest time as out came the red flags with just eleven minutes of the session remaining.

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne got his 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship bid back on course with a superb podium finish at a hot and sunny Thruxton circuit in Hampshire today. Aboard the VK backed 1000cc Fireblade, the 30 year old just missed out on a podium in the opening 22 lap classic whereby he finished in fourth position but made amends with a brilliant third place finish in the second race which was played out in front of another record crowd.

The 30 year old Londoner posted third fastest time on the VK backed Honda Fireblade 1000cc having held pole position for much of the fifty minute session at the Hampshire circuit.

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport riders Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Tom Sykes recorded a top five finish apiece at a drama packed opening round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship in the Brands Hatch sunshine today. Riding the VK backed Honda Fireblades, Byrne fought his way through the pack in race one to end up in a fine fourth place with Sykes doing likewise in race two to end up in fifth as the most hotly contested championship in recent years was played out in front of over 40,000 fans at the Kent circuit.

The 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship gets underway at Brands Hatch in Kent this Easter weekend with the all-new Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport Team of Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Tom Sykes ready to do battle. Paul Bird’s team has re-signed the 30 year old ex MotoGP star Byrne after he landed the title for them back in 2003 and the Zurich-residing Londoner has shown very good pace in pre-season testing aboard the 1000cc Honda.

After weeks of speculation, Paul Bird Motorsport is pleased to announce that Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Tom Sykes are the two riders to contest the 2007 British Superbike Championship for the Stobart Honda team. Following two seasons in MotoGP followed by a year back in BSB in 2006, 29 year old Byrne, originally from Sittingbourne in Kent but now resident in Zurich, rejoins the team that took him to the 2003 British Superbike Championship as well as a double World Superbike victory aboard a Ducati.

Shakey Crashes Out Of Dramatic Season Finale

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne crashed out of the first race at the final round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch today while fighting bravely for a podium finish in treacherous damp conditions. Shakey was holding third with only a handful of laps remaining when his rear tyre touched the painted white line at the bottom of Paddock Hill bend. The tyre slid and he crashed at over 120mph, causing the race to be stopped. Due to concussion he was forced to miss the second event.

Wet Weather Robs Rizla Suzuki's Shakey Of Pole Position

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne was challenging for pole position at the 13th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch when rain interrupted qualifying and left him frustrated in second place. Riding in front of his home fans, Shakey was in provisional pole for much of the 50-minute session. His lap time was bettered with 15-minutes remaining and before he could get out of the garage for another lap the rain started to fall, scuppering his chances of going any faster.
