The San Carlo Honda Gresini Team make one of the longest road trips of the season this week as the MotoGP World Championship treks from the south of Spain to the north of France for round four. The world famous Le Mans circuit has played host to the Grand Prix de France intermittently since 1969 and uninterrupted since 2000, with the Gresini Team celebrating victory on four occasions out of those last nine visits.

San Carlo Honda Gresini Team riders Toni Elias and Alex de Angelis endured a frustrating afternoon at Motegi today, where a heavy thunderstorm flooded the track and forced the cancellation of the scheduled qualifying practice for the Grand Prix of Japan. The weather has gradually worsened since the paddock pitched up at the Twin Ring, with the blue skies and warm temperatures that welcomed the teams and riders to the circuit on Thursday making way for cloudy and cool conditions yesterday before today’s downpour.

San Carlo Honda Gresini Team Gain Crucial Track Time At Jerez

San Carlo Honda Gresini Team riders Toni Elias and Alex De Angelis were able to continue their preparations for the 2009 MotoGP World Championship at Jerez today, where torrential early downpours subsided before midday and allowed the track to dry sufficiently for a useful first outing of a two-day test. The Spaniard and the San Marino rider were both able to push the limits of their Honda RC212V machinery and Bridgestone tyres, finishing the day inside the top ten on the unofficial time sheets.

Thanks to ever-improving track conditions on the final day, the riders were able to work in similar conditions to what will be faced on 12 April, when the 2009 World Championship race will take place.

The second day of this week’s official test at the Jerez circuit in southern Spain has come to an end for Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, the final track meeting of the year before the winter break. The team enjoyed good weather with a fruitful day’s work: sun, no wind, 15 degree ambient and 23 degree asphalt temperature. Both team riders took to the track in the afternoon to continue work on making adjustments to the 2008-specification Honda RC212V.

San Carlo Honda Gresini's 09 Season Begins with Valencia Tests

Team San Carlo Honda Gresini began its preparations for the 2009 season at the Ricardo Tormo circuit in Valencia today, as the Spanish track played host to the first tests for next year with riders Alex De Angelis and Toni Elias. For existing team rider Alex De Angelis and the rejoining Toni Elias today’s test has been very important. San Marino rider De Angelis was given his first taste of new Honda today and started to work with his new technical staff, headed by Antonio Jimenez. Elias, meanwhile, has returned to work with a crew led by Fabrizio Cecchini, with whom he worked during his last season with the team in 2007, and focused today on gaining confidence with the Honda. Both riders will continue testing tomorrow.

Nakano Makes Incredible Fight Back to Fifth

Shinya Nakano produced arguably his best performance of the season at Sepang today, starting the Malaysian Grand Prix from fifteenth on the grid but fighting through to finish fifth. Nakano made an incredible start and passed several riders on the first lap to move into sixth place, stalking Stoner for several laps before eventually making his move to seal a top five finish. It was a much more difficult race for Alex De Angelis, however, the San Marino rider unable to take advantage of a good start as he advanced no higher than fourteenth in the gruelling conditions.

Qualifying Tricky for San Carlo Honda Gresini

Drastically variable weather conditions at the Grand Prix of Malaysia limited Team San Carlo Honda Gresini’s options during qualifying practice at Sepang today, with Shinya Nakano set to start from the fifth row of the grid in fifteenth place and Alex De Angelis another two spots further back. The Japanese and San Marino riders were unable to make the most of the crucial final few minutes of the session, with the track continually drying after an earlier shower. Both riders came in for a final tyre change but were unable to get back on track in time to complete a flying lap before the chequered flag was wave.

Nakano Fastest Honda in Sepang Free Practice

The Malaysian Grand Prix started out in positive fashion for Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, the final chapter of an intercontinental MotoGP tour and the penultimate round of the 2008 season. Shinya Nakano showed good form in the opening free practice session this morning and in the afternoon he confirmed his good feeling with the RC212V at Sepang, dominating the time sheets throughout the session before being dislodged by Edwards, Rossi and Stoner in the final few minutes. However, he remained the top Honda rider on the combined time sheets.

The cool winds of Phillip Island, where Fausto Gresini’s team celebrated a creditable top-five finish for Shinya Nakano, could hardly be followed by a bigger climatic contrast than the heat and humidity of Kuala Lumpur.

Team San Carlo Honda Gresini take on one of the most important events of the season this weekend, the San Marino Grand Prix, which takes place at the Misano Adriatico circuit. The squad led by Fausto Gresini will go into battle just a few kilometres from the team’s headquarters in San Clemente di Rimini. It is also an event of special importance for Alex De Angelis, the only San Marino native on the MotoGP grid. After his stunning fourth place in the Italian Grand Prix at Mugello earlier in the season, a placing he repeated at Sachsenring, Alex will again look to be amongst the leaders in front of his home fans.

Alex De Angelis and Shinya Nakano were back on track at Brno yesterday for the first day of tests, which are scheduled to continue for the Japanese rider today. Shinya completed 67 laps, focusing mainly on finding the right setting for the 2009 satellite version Honda RC212V he rode in the weekend’s Czech Republic Grand Prix. Alex clocked up 70 laps with the objective of improving his lap times and feeling with the front end of his machine. A long day of hard work alongside the team’s engineers and Bridgestone allowed the San Marino rider to improve his lap times from yesterday’s race by several tenths.

Dream Debut for Nakano on Honda RC212C

Despite a difficult start to the race, Team San Carlo Honda Gresini’s riders were two of the star performances of a dramatic Czech Republic Grand Prix that took place today at Brno. Shinya Nakano, making his first appearance on the Honda RC212V, put together an impressive charge through the field in the second half of the race to finish just short of the podium in fourth place. Despite only having limited track time to set the bike up, the Japanese rider established a good feeling with the new machine, finishing today’s race as the top Honda with his best result of the season.

The Czech Republic Grand Prix started off on the right foot for Team San Carlo Honda Gresini, Shinya Nakano making his debut on the new Honda RC212V and lapping fourth fastest, just a fraction of a second ahead of his team-mate Alex De Angelis in fifth. The third and final free practice takes place tomorrow morning, followed by qualifying practice in the afternoon.

After a four week summer break the MotoGP World Championship is back on track this weekend, with Team San Carlo Honda Gresini hitting the road to Brno, venue of the Czech Republic Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the season. The squad led by Fausto Gresini will take to the track with an important update this weekend, with HRC having decided to entrust the former 125cc World Champion’s outfit with development of the 2009 version satellite Honda RC212V, similar to the bikes used so far this season by Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden. It is the same bike that will be provided by the factory to the satellite teams next season.
