Charley Boorman Learns About Life On 3-Wheels

Actor & adventurer Charley Boorman visited Watsonian-Squire, the longest established sidecar manufacturer in the world, for an intensive training session to learn how to drive a sidecar outfit, in preparation for his forthcoming expedition. Driving a sidecar outfit is very different to riding a motorcycle as it needs to be steered using the handlebars rather than by leaning into corners, and Watsonian have used 96 years of experience to develop an induction course for novices.

Third Annual Royal Enfield Open Weekend 14th - 15th June

Records Fall in BCA Motorbike Sale

Peterborough was the hub of the UK motorcycle scene on Friday, 29 February when BCA in Boongate staged a special auction featuring 188 motorbikes. Records fell as 176 motorbikes were sold for a turnover in excess of £500,000.

Royal Enfield will unveil the Woodsman 500, the latest in a long line of Bullet motorcycles, at this year's NEC Bike Show. The Bullet has been in continuous production since 1949 and the Woodsman is inspired by the street scramblers of the late 1950's that the company exported to the USA under the Indian brand, which is ironic as the current model is manufactured in India.

Cotswolds Awash With Bullets After The Floods

Heavy flooding the previous weekend failed to deter crowds of current and prospective Royal Enfield enthusiasts from flocking to Blockley for the company’s annual Open weekend on 28/29 July 2007. In spite of dire weather forecasts for the Sunday the sun shone over both days, during the course of which approximately 1,750 people visited the headquarters of the Royal Enfield’s UK distributors, located near the Cotswold village of Blockley, to see the latest generation of Bullet motorcycles.

The Electra Clubman is the latest in a long line of café racer styled machines from Royal Enfield’s UK distributor Watsonian Squire. This authentic-looking machine has been developed in their factory in the Heart of England to combine the look and sound of the classic cafe racers of the Sixties with the reliability and performance of a modern lean burn engine and, of course, the heritage of the Royal Enfield badge. At the heart of the Clubman is the proven all-aluminium 500cc single cylinder Electra engine that has amazed the press and owners alike with its incredible fuel economy (over 85 mpg is not unusual). The frame, gas filled rear shock absorbers and Avon Super Venom tyres also come from the standard road bike, as does the efficient 280mm single front disc brake.

Royal Enfield report that UK sales of its Bullet motorcycle, now in its 52nd year of production, rose by 6% during 2006, which compares well to the overall market that managed an increase of just 1% over 2005. Demand grew for both the 350cc model, (which is virtually unchanged in appearance since 1955), and the 500cc version, powered by a new alloy 5-speed engine, both of which deliver incredible fuel economy. Several journalists have reported achieving a figure of 100 MPG riding the lean Burn Bullet Electra, which means that it is possible to travel up to 300 miles on a tank of unleaded petrol costing £12.00 to fill.

New Royal Enfield Sports Screen

Royal Enfield’s UK distributor has introduced a Sports Screen that will fit the Bullet Classic, Sixty-5 and Electra and provide the rider with enhanced protection from the elements without detracting from the machine’s classic lines. The screen is manufactured in the UK from 3mm clear acrylic. It measures 34 cm high (13.5”) by 41cm wide (16.5”) and bolts directly onto the handlebars without the need for any modification.

That means you can buy a brand new Bullet 350cc motorcycle for under £2,000 and the 500cc version for just over £2,500 including on the road charges. The Royal Enfield Bullet, which has been in continuous production for over 50 years, has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity since UK distribution was taken over by Watsonian Squire in 1999. Last year the historic brand bucked the trend of static bike sales (the overall market was up by just 2%) with a stunning 24% increase in registrations. In the UK Royal Enfield is now comfortably out-performing other niche European brands, like Moto Guzzi and the Bullet is selling in comparable numbers to the new Triumph Bonneville.
