Checa Battles for Points at Magny-Cours

Despite setting a new lap record in race one, HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider, Carlos Checa, took a seventh and a fourth in today’s penultimate 2008 World Superbike championship event at Magny-Cours in France. The races were won by Noriyuki Haga and Troy Bayliss, the Australian finally securing his third World Superbike championship title as his career draws to a close. Checa’s team-mate, Kenan Sofuoglu, battled hard in race one for a season’s best ninth place, but the after-effects of his high-speed crash at Vallelunga two weeks ago took their toll in race two as the Turkish rider struggled home in nineteenth place.

Andrew Pitt - 2008 World Supersport Champion

Andrew Pitt today won the 2008 World Supersport championship by taking victory in a thrilling 12th-round race at Magny-Cours in France. Pitt’s second world title – he was the last non-Honda rider to win the title in 2001 – is the seventh successive championship for the Ten Kate team and the Honda CBR600RR machine. Pitt and his HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team-mate, Jonathan Rea, started the 22-lap race from the front row of the grid, separated by 11 points at the head of the championship table. Checa Fourth in Magny-Cours Superpole

Carlos Checa will start tomorrow’s two 13th round World Superbike races at Magny-Cours from the front row of the grid after setting the fourth fastest time in this afternoon’s Superpole qualifying. Pole position at the 4.4km circuit in central France was taken by Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga after cold and damp conditions affected all teams’ preparations for Sunday’s two 23-lap races. HANNspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu, still suffering the after-effects of his big crash at Vallelunga two weeks ago, finished Superpole in 14th place. Martin Bauer, standing in for the injured Ryuichi Kiyonari, did not qualify for Superpole, and will start from the fifth row of the grid.

Rea in Control at Magny-Cours

HANNspree Ten Kate Honda’s Jonathan Rea grabbed provisional pole position for Sunday’s penultimate World Supersport championship race by setting the fastest time in today’s opening qualifying session at Magny-Cours in France. His team-mate and series leader, Andrew Pitt, sits on the provisional second row with the sixth fastest time of this afternoon’s rain-interrupted session, in spite of a crash late on.

Ten Kate Confirms 2009 Line Up

The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team has today confirmed its rider line-up for the 2009 World Superbike and World Supersport championships. Carlos Checa will start his second season in the production-based World Superbike championship on the Ten Kate Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade. The 35-year-old Spaniard, whose motorcycle racing career spans more than 15 years, has taken two wins to date in his debut SBK season.

Kiyonari Fastest at Donington

Ryuichi Kiyonari underlined his recent double World Superbike victory at Brands Hatch by setting the second fastest time in today’s opening qualifying session for Sunday’s two eleventh round races at Donington Park. In appalling conditions, the Japanese HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider crashed twice today but still topped the leaderboard for most of the day, with a best lap of 1m44.528s. Only series leader, Troy Bayliss, went faster by one tenth of a second.

Rea on Provisional Pole

Jonathan Rea has put his HANNspree Ten Kate Honda CBR600RR on provisional pole position for Sunday’s tenth round World Supersport race at Donington Park in Great Britain. The 21-year-old Irishman lapped the 4km circuit in 1m47.714s in horrendous conditions in this afternoon’s opening qualifying session. Rea comes to his home circuit on the back of two victories in the last two races and currently holds second position in the championship table, 32 points behind his team-mate Andrew Pitt.

The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team heads back to Britain this weekend where Donington Park will host the 11th round of the 2008 World Superbike championship (5th-7th September). The team will be seeking a repeat performance of James Toseland’s race one victory at Donington last year and Carlos Checa, currently fourth in the championship table with two wins to his credit, is already familiar with the sweeping curves and tight Melbourne section from his GP career. Ryuichi Kiyonari returns to a circuit he visited several times during his victorious British Superbike championship campaigns and the Japanese ace is fresh after his stunning WSBK double win at Brands Hatch last month.

Kiyonari Does Brands Hatch Double

Ryuichi Kiyonari today took his first World Superbike victory in round ten of the 2008 championship at Brands Hatch, and followed up with his second win in race two. The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider started both races from third place on the grid and, in the first outing, shadowed championship leader Troy Bayliss for 17 of the 25 laps around the 3.7km circuit. Kiyonari took his Honda CBR1000RR past Bayliss at the fast Hawthorns right-hander on lap 22 and held the Australian at bay for the remaining laps to take his maiden win.

Fresh from his victory with team-mate Carlos Checa in last Sunday’s Suzuka 8-hours race in Japan, Ryuichi Kiyonari celebrated today by grabbing provisional pole position for round ten of the World Superbike championship at Brands Hatch. The double British Superbike champion fired his CBR1000RR Fireblade around the undulating 3.7km circuit in a time of 1m26.017s, heading fellow Japanese Nori Haga and Yukio Kagayama into tomorrow’s second qualifying and Superpole sessions.

Rea blitzed his Honda CBR600RR around the 3.7km British circuit in a time of 1m28.117s, eclipsing the three-year-old lap record of HANNspree Ten Kate Honda’s double World Supersport champion, Sébastien Charpentier. Andrew Pitt, meanwhile, set the tenth fastest time in today’s 45-minute qualifying session, and is confident of a move up the grid in tomorrow’s final qualifying as he bids to extend his current 32-point lead in the championship standings.

Hannspree Ten Kate Honda rider Jonathan Rea impressively turned from novice to the Brno track on Friday, to race winner on Sunday. The young British rider claimed his first ever World Supersport victory in another tight battle at the Czech track today. Having started from seventh position on the grid, Rea started well and came through the first round in third position behind team-mate Andrew Pitt and race leader Broc Parkes. Rea and Pitt swapped places on their Ten Kate Honda CBR600RR’s while chasing their way to the front of the field, with Pitt taking the lead in lap four. Due to an error in his braking, Rea was set back to sixth place while Craig Jones took the lead from championship leader Pitt.

Superbike World Championship Heads to Brno

The Superbike World Championship arrives in Brno this weekend for the ninth round of the series, at the Czech Automotodrom. The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda team enters the Czech round leading the Supersport Championship and currently sitting third in the WSB standings. Andrew Pitt has dominated the last rounds of the Supersport series but team mate Jonathan Rea is eager to show his full potential and make his contribution to the impressive Ten Kate Honda tally. The British rider was slightly disappointed with his third place in Misano and is very keen to claim his first victory, starting at the Brno track this weekend.

HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Satisfied After Vallelunga SBK Test

The HANNSpree Ten Kate Honda Team has finished the official FG development test at the circuit of Vallelunga in Italy today. The two-day test has been organised by the Flamini Group in view of the second part of the season and in particular the Italian Round at the Rome circuit on September 21st. The three-men strong HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Superbike squad and their Supersport team mates experienced severely hot track conditions but have been able to make some important progress in the development of the Honda CBR1000RR and CBR600RR machines.

Difficult Race's in Misano for HANNspree SBK Team

The hard conditions at Misano continued for the HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Superbike team today where, after two days of poor qualifying, the team still struggled to optimise the performance of the Honda CBR1000RR and find the right pace in the Superbike races. Carlos Checa qualified eleventh on the grid after issues with the grip of his bike played havoc throughout the qualifying session. His qualifying spot put him in a difficult position to make passes on his frontrunners in the strong field. However, some crashes at the front enabled Checa to make up some ground and he finished the first race in fifth position.

Pitt Dominates Misano race, Rea Claims Third

HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider Andrew Pitt collected another impressive win today at the World Superbike round at Misano today. After two successful days of qualifying Pitt was the man on a mission today and eager to turn his second place on the grid into a top spot on the podium. After a good start Pitt took the lead for the best part of the 22-lap race over rivals Parkes and Foret. In what looked like an easy race for the front runner, Pitt kept his rivals at distance and claimed his fourth Supersport victory of the season.

Supersport Team on Provisional Front Row at Misano

The HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Supersport team started the first day of qualifying in Misano on the pace with both riders putting their Honda’s on the provisional front row for the race this weekend. Jonathan Rea successfully concluded his first ever appearance on the 4.226km long track by setting the third fastest time of 1'41.453 in the free practice session. He managed to improve his time in the afternoon’s qualifying practice with a best lap of 1'40.690 and secured the day’s fourth fastest time.

Checa Takes Fifth Place Twice at Nurburgring

After double tops at the last round at the Miller Motorsports Park, HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider Carlos Checa had to settle for fifth place today in both races of the German round.
Rain looked likely but it remained dry for the duration of the 20-lap race. From his first row start Checa came 9th through the first corner and started his chase forward. He remained in 7th place for most of the race before overtaking Fabrizio and Xaus in the last laps of the race and claimed 5th place.

Pitt Claims Victory at Nurburgring

HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider Andrew Pitt put in a great performance today and put his CBR600RR on top of the podium. Pitt had a good start in the start of the race and came through in 1st, however, a red flag situation caused by a German wild card rider halted the race. After another good start in the second part of the race the Australian rider collected the win after a determined chase on Broc Parkes. Pitt had another good start but it was fellow Australian Broc Parkes who was leading the field for most of the race with an impressive pace. By overtaking Broc Parkes in the ultimate rounds of the 19-lap race Pitt claimed his third victory of the season and placed himself in the lead of the Championship.

Checa Rockets to Double Win at Miller Motorsports Park

HANNspree Ten Kate Honda Carlos Checa posted a superb performance today in the first Superbike race at the Miller circuit, where he claimed his first ever World Superbike win. After a pole position start, Checa came through turn one in fifth spot but quickly gained ground and took the lead over the line on lap 4. He managed to breakaway from his followers and claimed his first ever SBK victory 2.8 seconds ahead of number two, Troy Corser. With his victory Checa secured the 99th win in the Superbike World Championship for manufacturer Honda.
