Suzuki Sweeps Atlanta Sunday Race

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing completely dominated the AMA Superbike Championship weekend at Road Atlanta, following up Saturday's Suzuki clean-sweep with another such victory on Sunday afternoon in Braselton, Georgia. The all-Rockstar Makita Suzuki podium saw two-time and defending AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies in the top spot with six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin in second position and team mate Tommy Hayden in third.

Virginia International Raceway; Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals presented by Dunlop & Rockstar. The 2008 AMA Superbike Championship is headed down the homestretch at Virginia International Raceway on Aug. 15-17 for a pair of the season's final five Superbike-class contests. Virginia International Raceway is located just north of the North Carolina border in Alton, Va., which is 12 miles east of Danville, Va. The popular venue, which boasts a resort-type atmosphere, hosts this week's Suzuki Big Kahuna Nationals, presented by Dunlop & Rockstar. This event is a direct descendent of the original Big Kahuna weekends at Road Atlanta that kicked off the now prevalent doubleheader format trend in AMA Superbike racing.

Mladin Takes 70TH AMA Superbike Win

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Mat Mladin, Ben Spies and Tommy Hayden replicated their impressive results from Saturday's AMA Superbike race in Sunday's final event at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mladin won again and in doing so celebrated his 70th career AMA Superbike victory and his seventh win this year. Defending two-time AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies started from pole position and again followed Mladin home in second place while Rockstar Makita Suzuki team mate Tommy Hayden again brought home fifth.

Mladin Wins at Ohio AMA Superbikes

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing celebrated its 40th AMA Superbike win in a row at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, on Saturday as six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin took the win. Mladin overcame a get-off and three red flags to take this victory, which marks the Australian's 69th career AMA Superbike victory and his sixth win of the season. Defending and two-time AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies was recovering from a recent appendectomy but still started from pole position and followed Mladin home in second place as Tommy Hayden brought home an impressive fifth-place result.

Medaglia Retains MX Lead Despite ‘Off’ Weekend

Tyler Medaglia held onto his lead in the Canadian Motocross series despite suffering poor results at the weekend's fifth round at Nanaimo. The Team Suzuki Rockstar Energy/ OTSFF rider still managed to card a tenth place finish in moto one and a fifth in moto two, which saw him finish a respectable eighth overall on the day. He also kept his lead in the MX1 title hunt, albeit by just one point.

2008 AMA SBK Parts Unlimited & Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix

The AMA Superbike Championship presented by Parts Unlimited will contest the first of two rounds to be held this season at the famed Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca circuit in Monterey, Calif. The July stop has also become an annual meeting with the superstars of the MotoGP World Championship, widely considered the pinnacle of global motorcycle road racing. The MotoGP field boasts some of the AMA Superbike Championship's most decorated graduates, led by 2006 World Champion Nicky Hayden, a former AMA Superbike and Supersport champ. Hayden won the U.S. Grand Prix in 2005 and 2006. 1992 AMA 250GP champion Colin Edwards is another top MotoGP competitor with an AMA Superbike pedigree. The Texan has been performing impressively this season, regularly finishing in the top five and occasionally landing on the podium. Unfortunately, former AMA Formula Xtreme and Superstock king John Hopkins will be unable to compete in front of his home fans at Laguna Seca, ruled out by injury.

Byrne Grabs 1st Podium at Red Bud

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Michael Byrne picked up his first podium of the 2008 AMA Motocross season at Red Bud Track & Trail in Buchanan, Michigan, on Sunday afternoon. The Australian rider put in two strong motos, bringing home two fourth-place finishes to take the overall third-place result. Team mate Mike Alessi had a great first moto, getting the holeshot on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki RM-Z450 and finishing in second place. Unfortunately, Alessi crashed hard in the second moto and was unable to finish the race. He suffered two broken scapulas, a broken rib and a bruised lung.

Alessi and Izzi Take Colarado MX Podiums

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Mike Alessi and Michael Byrne both celebrated impressive AMA Motocross finishes at the Thunder Valley Motocross Park's night race in Lakewood, Colorado, for round five of the AMA Motocross series. Alessi picked up two more holeshots - six in a row - and two more second-place moto finishes for his fourth second-place overall result this season. Team mate Byrne brought home fifth and sixth place moto finishes for a fifth-place overall result. This top-five finish is Byrne's best result so far this season.

Hurley Podiums in South Australia

Team Shift Motul Suzuki riders produced impressive performances in round six of the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals in Murray Bridge, South Australia on Sunday with podium finishes and overall honours in the Under 19s class. Pro Open riders Luke Burkhart and Daryl Hurley were among the big movers of the weekend, finishing sixth and seventh in the opening Moto after slow starts. Burkhart moved even further up the order in Moto 2, running second on his Suzuki RM-Z450 before crashing heavily on Lap 13 and ending his race.

Mike Alessi 2nd at AMA MX Freestone Scorcher

In spite of 100-degree temperatures, Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Mike Alessi gave a strong performance at Freestone County Raceway in Wortham, Texas, on Sunday. The young rider holeshot both motos and then brought home two second-place finishes to take second-place overall. Rockstar Makita Suzuki team mate Michael Byrne celebrated his second sixth-place finish of the season, thanks to eighth and fifth-place moto finishes. Alessi is currently third in the overall championship points while Byrne is sixth.

Mat Mladin Wins Road America 2nd Leg

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Mat Mladin captured the win in the second of two AMA Superbike races at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, on Sunday. In spite of semi-wet conditions, six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mladin rode hard on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSXR-1000 and picked up his fourth win of the season and his 67th career AMA Superbike victory.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Ben Spies won Saturday's AMA Superbike race at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, which was a record breaking seventh AMA Superbike wins on the trot! The two-time AMA Superbike Champion was the pole-sitter in this race, the first of two in the double-header weekend, and led all 16 laps to victory on his Rockstar Makita Suzuki GSX-R1000. In addition to this being Spies' seventh win of the season, it also marks his 25th AMA Superbike career win.

Hurley was an impressive third in qualifying on the sandy circuit aboard his Suzuki RM-Z450, as the team looked to bounce back from a disappointing home round in Newcastle a fortnight earlier.

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing's Mike Alessi started the AMA Motocross season strongly by capturing second place overall at this weekend's season-opening round at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, California. Team mate Michael Byrne also had a good weekend, thanks to a sixth-place overall result, while David Vuillemin struggled to17th overall. In the Motocross Lites class, Ryan Dungey had a fine weekend after taking fourth place overall. Nico Izzi, meanwhile, had a good first moto, finishing eighth, but had some issues in the second moto and wound up with 13th overall.

Spies heads Suzuki One-Two again

Rockstar Makita Suzuki Factory Racing continued to dominate in the AMA Superbike race series as defending AMA Superbike Champion Ben Spies and six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin again finished first and second in the second AMA Superbike race of the weekend at Infineon Raceway in California on Sunday afternoon. Two-time AMA Superbike Champion started from pole position and led all 28 laps of the race to take the win. This victory is Spies' fourth consecutive AMA Superbike win of the season and his 22nd career victory. Team mate Mladin was right on Spies' tail for the entire race and brought home second place.
