Rizla Suzuki's Tom Sykes led both of today’s third round races at the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park and declared his intentions for the rest of the season. In race one Sykes led in wet but drying conditions before eventually finishing in fifth place; and in the second dry race he led for the first 10 laps before clashing with another rider and crashing unhurt. Rizla Suzuki’s Atsushi Watanabe scored his first top 10 finish of his British Superbike campaign in the second race. In the opener he claimed points finishing in a competitive 13th position. Ducati’s Shane Byrne won both races at the 2.69 mile Cheshire track.

Sykes Secures Front Row Start for Rizla Suzuki
4 Days ago
Tom Sykes has put his Rizla Suzuki firmly on the front row of the grid in third place for round three of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park in Cheshire. The single 50-minute qualifying session was held in difficult conditions as the track was drying out following heavy rain which had fallen until just prior to the session. Sykes’s team spent the weekend honing the chassis settings on his Rizla Suzuki which paid dividends during qualifying. His team opted to run the same tyre which he intends to use on race day, this allowed Sykes to build up to his fast lap in the tricky conditions. Just as the chequered flag came out Sykes posted his fastest time sealing third place.

Capirossi & Vermeulen Robbed of Higher Finishes
5 Days ago
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP’s Loris Capirossi was deprived of at least a top five position at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai today, through a mixture of bad luck and a small mistake. Capirossi was looking to challenge for a much higher position on lap five, but an error at the end of the back straight caused the Italian racer to run off the track. He re-joined the race in 12th place and began the task of chasing down the pack in front of him. Capirossi used all his experience to close in and pass five more riders to move him into seventh on the penultimate lap, but he suffered a transmission problem on the last lap and crossed the line in ninth position. This result gave Capirossi seven points, and moved him up to fifth in the riders’ championship.

Atsushi Watanabe rode to 16th place during the dry 50-minute sessions putting his new found circuit knowledge to use, having completed a track day with John Reynolds at Oulton Park ahead of the race weekend. He gradually improved his lap times and moved up the ranks to achieve a top 16 placing.

Good Qualifying Sees Rizla Suzuki's Near the front
6 Days ago
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen secured their best grid positions of the season so far during qualifying for tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix at Shanghai. Capirossi will start from the second row of the grid in sixth place, as the experienced Italian narrowly missed out on his first front row start for Suzuki. His best time of 1’58.941 was only 0.350 seconds away from the third fastest time, set by World Champion Casey Stoner, and but for a small mistake on his final lap Capirossi may well have been on the front row.

21 April 2008
Rizla Suzuki’s Tom Sykes, riding with a hand injury, got his Bennetts British Superbike Championship off to a solid start today at Thruxton in Hampshire scoring a sixth place in race one and an eighth in race two. The gritty Huddersfield rider severely bruised his left thumb in a qualifying crash yesterday and had to ride through the pain barrier in race one, coming home in a strong sixth place after starting from 12th on grid. In the second race he clashed with Leon Haslam (Honda) while running in fourth place. This caused a red flag as bike debris was removed from the track. He made the restart and after leading early on he eventually finished eighth.

19 April 2008
The Rizla Suzuki team had a dramatic qualifying session today at Thruxton in Hampshire for round two of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship, with Atsushi Watanabe finishing in 11th and Tom Sykes in 12th. Capirossi Confident Ahead of Portuguese GP
13 April 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi is positive he can deliver a good result from tomorrow’s Portuguese Grand Prix despite qualifying on the fourth row after a big crash at Estoril today. Capirossi (P12, 1’37.786, 22 laps) was on his first qualifying tyre when he made a mistake going into a fast right-hand turn and lost traction, causing him to crash very spectacularly at high-speed. The gutsy Italian picked himself up and managed to get back to the pit-box to continue with the session, but he was unable to better the time he had set previously on race tyres. Capirossi and his crew had made big improvements to his Suzuki GSV-R during the early part of the qualifying session and was on a competitive race-pace towards the top of the time-sheets, which is certainly an encouraging sign for tomorrow’s 28-lap race.

Rizla Suzuki Finds Clear Direction On First Day in Portugal
11 April 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racers Loris Capirossi and Chris Vermeulen both made steady progress during today’s rain-affected practice sessions at Estoril in Portugal. Heavy overnight rain had left the 4.182km Portuguese circuit very wet for this morning’s practice and although strong winds dried out the surface it still made conditions very difficult as a dry line appeared. With many wet patches on the track and air temperatures only getting up to 14ºC made getting a correct setting for both riders’ Suzuki GSV-Rs quite demanding throughout the day.

Rizla Suzuki Racers Prepare for Home Round
11 April 2008
Rizla Suzuki’s Tom Sykes and Atsushi Watanabe simply can’t wait to get on track at Thruxton on the 18th-20th April, following the cancellation of the first round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch due to heavy snow. Thruxton is the Dorset based team’s home round and both Rizla Suzuki racers are eager to please their local fans with a high speed display at the former wartime airfield. The Hampshire circuit boasts a 2.4 mile lap encompassing extremely high speed turns and an abrasive track surface. It is the fastest track in the championship and will pose a challenge to the determined squad.

Rizla Suzuki Racers Up The Pace In Qualifying
05 April 2008
Rizla Suzuki’s Tom Sykes and Atsushi Watanabe completed a successful but rain hit qualifying session at Brands Hatch in Kent today, finishing in fifth and ninth places respectively. The 50-minute session took place in cooler conditions than yesterday’s free practice but came to a premature halt with 5 mins left to run due to heavy rain hitting the challenging 2.3 mile circuit. Sykes improved his times from the morning free practice session and was running close to a front row position when the rain started to fall.
