In occasion of the FIM Motocross Grand Prix of the Netherlands to take place this weekend, April 5th and 6th, at Valkenswaard, Suzuki decided to present its Motocross racing activities at the GRP (Geboers Racing Promotion) headquarters, in Lommel, Belgium. 2008 will see Suzuki’s strong involvement both in the MX1 and in the MX2 classes with the RM-Z machines.
Kawasaki enjoyed a successful afternoon at the biggest and most prestigious Motocross event of the year as Ryan Villopoto and Tim Ferry guided their KX250F and KX450Fs to help Team USA celebrate their eighteenth capture of the Chamberlain trophy in the 61st edition of the international Nations competition. Team GPKR’s Sebastien Pourcel was part of the French trio that gained second place. From the nine riders on the final podium, one third steered KX motorcycle technology.
Today Christophe Pourcel is still hospitalised in Belfast after his heavy crash during warm-up for the Grand Prix of Northern Ireland last Sunday. The 2006 MX2 World Champion had been transfered from Antrim to Belfast, where he underwent further tests with a well known specialist to learn more about his injury. The exams revealed that he has broken his sacrum, the last bone of the spinal column; it is an ‘open book’ fracture and the doctors are still waiting to decide if he will need surgical reconstrution before rehabilitation. His French doctor Olivier Dufour is in permanent contact with the Irish staff, and apparently Christophe will be soon transfered back home to France.
