March may be a long winter away, but the “race” to “track” down a personalised 08 registration will get underway this month with DVLA Personalised Registrations releasing its next number series to view from Monday November 12.
DVLA is giving motorists across the country the chance to ‘spy on’ its extensive range of 07-series registrations, three weeks ahead of the official ‘on sale’ date of December 5th. Over 7 million different combinations of the 07-series registrations will be available to view online including more than a quarter of a million ‘O07’ related plates.
In a move to prevent the over embellishment of EU regulations for obtaining a motorcycle driving licence, the British Motorcyclists Federation have accused the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) of increasing the cost and difficulty of obtaining a motorcycle licence by ‘gold plating’ an EU directive.
The motorcycle market has had an interesting year in 2005 starting with Roads Minister David Jamieson launching the Government’s Motorcycle Strategy, announcing the mainstreaming of motorcycling as a form of transport and ending with new motorcycle registrations showing little movement on 2004. After four consecutive years of decline, 2005 saw the market levelling-off. Registrations totalled 132,803 new mopeds, scooters and motorcycles - less than one percent down on the 2004 total and somewhat better than the five percent fall in new car registrations.
