Off Road Bike Bill Dies- Great News Say Motorcycle Retailers!

‘The collapse of the Off Road Vehicles (Registration) Bill is a victory for common sense,’ according to Mike Owen, head of the Motorcycle Retailers Association,’ (MRA), a part of the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMIF). Graham Stringer MP, who originally proposed the bill has been forced to withdraw it due to opposition by Government, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), and lobbying against the bill by the MRA and other organisations.

Off Road Vehicles (Registration) - Bill

On Friday 3rd March parliament debated the Off Road Vehicles, ( Registration) Bill. This is a private members bill brought by Graham Stringer MP for Manchester Blackley. The Bill passed its second reading and has been passed to committee stage. The Bill has been brought in specifically to tackle the nuisance caused by the irresponsible, anti social and dangerous use of mini-moto motorcycles. This activity is already illegal and there are sufficient powers to deal with the problem which is highly localised and usually in areas of social deprivation. It is not a nationwide problem; it does not affect all communities.

The official UK registration figures for new motorcycles and scooters during November 2005, have just released the by The MCI. Overall, the sales of new bike, moped and scooter registrations are all down by 4%. Scooter and moped sales have fallen sharply by 25% and 53% respectively, with motorcycle sales rising 'allegedly' to counteract the trend in decreasing moped and scooter sales.

'R1FAN' - Registration Plate Cloned

Our good friend Pete has had the number plate on his R1 cloned by an unscrupulous individual who is now riding around all over London racking up a series of offences. It has been reported to the police who are currently investigating the matter.
