BMW R 1200 GS – The Most Successful BMW Of All Time

BMW Motorrad celebrated an impressive record on 27 July as the 100,000th R 1200 GS rolled off the production line in Berlin, Germany. Since the introduction of the all-new, lighter and more powerful R 1200 GS in 2004, a staggering 84,373 units have been built, plus an additional 15,627 of its model variant, the R 1200 GS Adventure. No other BMW motorcycle has been built in such volume and within such a short space of time, thus making the R 1200 GS the most successful BMW motorcycle of all time.

BMW Motorrad R 1200 S Sports Boxer Finishes 16th Overall

The BMW Motorrad Motorsport team are celebrating after the R 1200 S took the Open class win and a very creditable 16th place overall at the weekend’s 30th 24 Hours Le Mans race, marking BMW’s return to competitive road racing after a 50-year absence. Despite being down on power compared to their rivals, the number 17 team of Marcus Barth, Thomas Hinterreiter and Rico Penzkofer completed 776 laps of the 2.65 mile Bugatti circuit, coming home in 16th place overall in front of 90,000 motorcycle race fans.

Factory Team To Race R 1200 S In Endurance World Championship

BMW Motorrad has made the historic announcement that, for the first time in 50 years, the iconic motorcycle manufacturer is to enter a factory team in a world championship motorcycle racing event. Considered the ultimate test of motorcycle endurance, the BMW Motorrad factory team has entered the Le Mans “24 heures moto”, which takes place over the weekend of 21-22 April 2007.
