Laconi Scores A Race Two Ninth

Régis Laconi rode hard for a fine top ten finish on his PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R at Vallelunga and improved his championship position in the process. In the first race Laconi just missed out on a point, while Tamada’s lowly starting position stopped him from making progress early on, and he secured 20th place. Laconi and Tamada made changes to their machines for race two, with Laconi softening his rear suspension settings, then pushing himself to ninth despite being run off the track at one stage.

Laconi 15th After Superpole Qualifying

Régis Laconi took his PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R into the Superpole competition at Vallelunga and then improved his qualifying ranking by one place, to start Sunday’s races 15th on the grid. Makoto Tamada ran off the track and finally fell at slow speed close to the end of a twice-interrupted final qualifying session this morning, and therefore he starts the races from 25th place. He had been experiencing some difficulties in changing direction at high and low speed, which affected his overall qualifying position.

Kawasaki Riders Qualify in the Wet

Changeable track conditions, with short spells of almost dry track time and longer periods of rain, saw Katsuaki Fujiwara take 11th place in qualifying, at a circuit he always finds an affinity with. His team-mate Chris Martin lost a little on his first day performance, and therefore starts from 14th place, but is confident that he can improve on his qualifying place on raceday, at one of his home circuits.

Home Race Next Up For PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse

Makoto Tamada and Régis Laconi are about to experience their biggest weekend of the year aboard their Ninja ZX-10R machines. Not only is the Misano circuit the home race for their San Marino based PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse team, but both riders will hope to make the best combined use of the latest design of rear swingarm, which has proved so effective in finding a good set-up recently. Until now only Laconi was using the latest swingarm but Tamada will also be running with the same design at Misano. The team will also be running in blue and white livery at some stage on track, the colour of the independent state of San Marino’s national flag.

Tamada Takes Two Assen Points Hauls

PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse rider Makoto Tamada moved up to 15th in the championship standings today after two strong points scoring rides. Tamada finished race one in a strong eighth place and followed that up with ninth in the second 22-lap contest, passing riders off the start each time. Régis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) went 11th in race one but chatter from his machine meant it was difficult for him to post a better result in race two and he slid down from a top ten place on lap one to 16th, missing out on any points for race two. Laconi is now 18th overall in the rankings, with 21 points.

Third Row Starts For Makoto & Régis

Makoto Tamada (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) will line up alongside his team-mate Régis Laconi on the third row of the Assen starting grid on Sunday. Tamada put in a strong performance through qualifying on his Ninja ZX-10R, finally setting a Superpole time of 1’39.307. This placed him 10th overall, only 0.879 seconds from pole. Laconi made great improvements at the 4.555km Assen circuit after a difficult first day, ending in a high-speed crash that seriously damaged his machine. An overnight rebuild led him try the latest specification of rear swingarm, as first tested at Jerez by Tamada, and Laconi also found an instant improvement in the feel and performance of his machine.

Tamada Top Ten After Valencia Tests

Makoto Tamada (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) made great advances in finding a good race set-up for his 2008 specification machine, after a busy two days at the official tests in Valencia, Spain. Régis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) had a less happy time on his machine, working hard but not finding the same degree of improvement as his team-mate. Laconi was, however, very close to Tamada in terms of his single best lap time, with Tamada setting a 1’35.591 and Laconi a 1’35.740.

Round Two For Laconi & Tamada

Phillip Island in Australia is the venue for round two of the World Superbike Championship on Sunday March 2, only one week after the opener at Losail in Qatar. Makoto Tamada (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) finished 12th in race two at Losail, shortly after his team-mate Régis Laconi had secured a point in race one. Tamada had been forced out of race one with a technical problem but charged hard from a lowly starting position, passing many riders on the first few laps on his new model Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R.

Nieto Scores Fabulous 3rd At Magny-Cours

Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) rode two impressive races at Magny-Cours and topped a great day for him and his team off with the podium they had been searching for. Nieto was fifth in race one, but after a race laden with determination from Nieto and race-long ability from his machine he scored a fabulous third in race two. Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) worked hard for his two top ten finishes at his home track, and in going ninth and eighth scored a final top ten in the overall championship chase. Nieto finished his raceday 12th.

Laconi Seventh As Nieto Doubles Up

Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) scored the single best Kawasaki rider finish at Vallelunga with a seventh in race one, but his regular team-mate Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) scored a pair of eighth places to make the biggest mark in the points haul. Laconi slowly fell to earth in race two after outbraking himself into the corner after the back straight, while third team rider at Vallelunga Vittorio Iannuzzo (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) was a more than respectable tenth and 12th in the two 24-lap contests.

Strong Scores For Kawasaki’s Front Row Starters

Superpole winner Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) and second fastest qualifier Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) each started from enviable positions in Germany, and scored good points in each 24-lap race, which were held in mercifully dry conditions. In race one Laconi was highest finisher for the team, in sixth place, just one up on Nieto. The race was won by Noriyuki Haga, by 11 seconds from Max Biaggi.

Nieto Takes Sensational Superpole Win

Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) chose a successful Superpole strategy to secure his first ever SBK pole position, and in a great day for the Kawasaki riders Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) took second best time. With the ‘wet’ Superpole rules in place, due to wet weather marring most of the second day of qualifying, the 50-minute session started out with a largely dry track surface and most riders running slicks. Nieto could sense the rains coming and decided to make a quick exit from pitlane, getting out fastest and first, and he managed to get his ZX-10R across the line just before the rains came back with real vengeance. Hence his best time was almost four seconds faster than his team-mate Laconi, who made the best job possible after half the track suddenly became drenched in rain water.

Points In All Races For Kawasaki'S Superbike Riders

Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) and Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) scored points in each 25-lap race at Brands, after two races held in hot conditions at the classically sculpted English track. Laconi had to make a change in his tyre choice between races to post finishes of 8th and 9th, while Nieto suffered a series of setbacks after a bright start, and had to settle for only a 12th and 13th.

Laconi On Row Three For Brands Hatch Races

Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) and Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) will start from the third and fourth rows of the grid respectively for Sunday’s Brands Hatch SBK races, after a torrid final day of qualifying and a tough Superpole contest. Laconi was eighth going into Superpole but difficulty in getting the power to the ground prevented him from being as aggressive as he wanted to be in the single lap contest which determines ultimate grid positions. He dropped to 12th in the pre-race standings, holding onto the last place on row three.

Points For All PSG-1 At Brno

The three-rider PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse squad all took home points from the Brno weekend but a change in the weather conditions for raceday and some mishaps mid-race meant that only Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) got a top ten finish, with eighth in a shortened race two. Fonsi was forced out of the first race after experiencing a technical problem, and despite a few concerns in race two he made it to the finish well inside the top ten.

Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) ended his Superpole qualifying session in 12th position, and thus starts Sunday’s 20-lap Superbike races from the third row of the grid. Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) found it difficult to change direction in the fast chicanes and corners that litter the Brno circuit, and dropped from ninth in regulation qualifying to 15th in Superpole.

Brno Welcomes Kawasaki Superbike Riders

The endless fast chicanes and elevation changes that characterise the Brno racetrack are already well known to both Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) and Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Ninja ZX-10R) and each rider has also enjoyed track time there this year, at recent official development team tests. With eight rounds completed to date, Laconi is the highest-placed Kawasaki rider in the series, in 11th, with a personal best in an individual race of fifth. Nieto is 14th, also with a best of fifth in race trim, which he took at round one in Qatar.
