Capirossi Ninth on Final Friday

Rizla Suzuki’s Loris Capirossi finished the final Friday practice of the 2009 MotoGP season in ninth position at Valencia in Spain today. Capirossi (1’34.427, 28 laps) suffered with some set-up issues in the hour-long session causing him some vibration on his Suzuki GSV-R. Loris and his crew didn’t have time to resolve the matter completely and will now look at the data overnight to see where the changes can be made to improve further.

Edwards and Toseland Set Competitive Times in Valencia

Lorenzo and Rossi Begin Season Finale in Second and Fourth

The final Grand Prix weekend of the season got underway at Valencia in Spain today in bright sunshine, with Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi finishing the first day of practice in second and fourth respectively. The Fiat Yamaha pairing have little left to achieve this weekend but both are determined to close the season on a high note, with Lorenzo especially looking to confirm second place in the championship.

MotoGP action got underway at Phillip Island in Australian today and Championship leader Valentino Rossi was in menacing form, leading the way almost from start to finish in the first practice session. His Fiat Yamaha team-mate Jorge Lorenzo finished the day sixth fastest, escaping unhurt after sliding off his YZR-M1 in the closing stages.

Stoner And Hayden Begin Island Quest

Ducati Marlboro Team riders Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden benefited from an extended spell of sunny weather at Phillip Island today as they began set-up work on their Desmosedici GP9 machines in the first free practice session for the Australian Grand Prix. Strong winds and heavy overnight rain gave way to largely blue skies this morning, allowing for a crucial opening 45-minutes of dry track time in the afternoon although both riders struggled to find grip on the cool track surface.

The Australian Grand Prix weekend kicked off today with the first practice session taking place at the Phillip Island circuit in preparation for Sunday’s 27-lap race. Ducati Marlboro Team rider Casey Stoner made his eagerly awaited return to competitive MotoGP action in Portugal today after missing the last three rounds through illness. The Australian completed a total of nineteen laps of the Estoril circuit, making three runs in total – his fastest time coming on his second run when he clocked a 1’37.966, fast enough for an impressive fourth position overall.

Bright Start for Repsol Hondas in First Session at Estoril

Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso finished in second and sixth places this afternoon as the first practice session for the Grand Prix of Portugal took place at Estoril. After a four-week break since the last MotoGP outing, the factory Honda pair and their pit crews quickly blew away the cobwebs and got down to the serious business of tuning their machines to the demands of the tight and bumpy 4.182km (0.613-mile) circuit.

The first day of free practice did not go according to plan at Imola today. The first scheduled Superbike free practice session lasted for just two laps, with less than perfect conditions resulting in a huge high side crash for rider Tom Sykes. Luckily he walked away uninjured.

Hot and humid weather gave way to he avy rain at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this afternoon, bringing back memories of last year’s hurricane-struck race as the riders splashed through puddles of standing water. Today’s bad weather looks like being a one-off however and the forecast for the rest of the weekend looks much better.

The 2009 Indianapolis Grand Prix began today as the 2008 event finished - wet. Thankfully however, the hurricane force winds that played havoc with last year’s race at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway stayed away this time, and it was Repsol Honda’s Dani Pedrosa who made the best of the conditions to set the fastest time in the weekend’s first hour-long practice session.

Hayden Second Fastest, Kallio Eleventh in Wet as MotoGP Returns to Indy

The MotoGP World Championship returned to Indianapolis today and was again struck by the wet weather curse that saw last year’s race cancelled with eight laps remaining. Thankfully there was no sign of the high winds from twelve months ago and the first free practice session went ahead without delay, with the impressive Nicky Hayden and stand-in team-mate Mika Kallio lapping second and eleventh fastest respectively in the soaking conditions.
