Today saw the second and final day of the first test for the Yamaha World Superbike 2010 riders Cal Crutchlow and James Toseland. Both riders spent a second full day testing their new R1 machines as they worked to bring the settings in line with their riding styles.

The Ducati Xerox Testing Underway at Portimao in Preparation for 2010

Just two days after the final round of the World Superbike Championship 2009 and the Ducati Xerox Team begins testing in preparation for the new season. Noriyuki and Michel, second and third at the end of this year’s campaign, and both already confirmed with the Ducati Xerox Team for 2010, were back on track this morning with most of the other Superbike team for the first of two days of testing.

Suzuki Alstare Debuts its New Team

The first day of the Portimao tests saw new signings Sylvain and Leon Haslam together in Suzuki Alstare colours for the very first time. Sylvain had raced the bike during the recent World Superbike race here last weekend and continued to get more familiar with the GSX-R1000 K9. Despite a sore left elbow and ankle, caused by the crash last Sunday in the warm-up, Leon soon got on the pace and started to understand his new bike.

Guintoli Races to Top-10 Finish in Alstare Debut

New Alstare Suzuki rider Sylvain Guintoli raced to 10th place in the second race at today's World Superbike 14th round at Portimao in Portugal after failing to finish the opening leg. Both he and team mate Yukio Kagayama were forced to pull out of race one due to technical issues and in Kagayama's case, being hit from behind, before both bounced back to take 10th and 11th places respectively in the second leg.

A Courageous Haga Loses the WSB Title by 6 Points; Fabrizio Wins Race 2

Spies Claims the All Time WSB Superpole Record, Crutchlow on Front Row

Any doubt of Ben Spies' claim to all-time rookie fame was squashed today as he took pole position ahead of tomorrow's races with an incredible flying Superpole lap. - Yamaha World Supersport rider Cal Crutchlow continued to show the fast consistent pace needed to claim the title this weekend in today's Supersport qualifying session.

Superb Start for Sylvain

Suzuki Alstare new boy Sylvain Guintoli continued his steeping learn curve today at Portimao and managed to secure a superb third row grid position after posting the fifth fastest time in Superpole 1. Although he couldn’t progress any further than Superpole 2, Sylvain showed that he has quickly come to grips with his GSX-R1000 K9 and will undoubtedly go even faster once he has become more familiar with the bike.

Difficult Qualifying for Haga at Portimao, Solid Third Place for Fabrizio

Championship contender Noriyuki Haga and his Ducati Xerox squad experienced a difficult day, and a difficult Superpole, at the Portimao circuit today, closing in tenth position, while Michel Fabrizio and his Ducati 1198 had more success, qualifying on the front row, alongside Spies (Yamaha), Byrne (Ducati) and Rea (Honda), for tomorrow’s crucial races.

Kiyonari Withdraws from Portimao

Ten Kate Honda Racing’s Ryuichi Kiyonari has reluctantly been forced to withdraw from the final round of the 2009 World Superbike championship at Portimao in Portugal. The Japanese ace broke his right collarbone in race one at the previous round in Magny-Cours, France and returned home for an operation. It was the same collarbone that Kiyonari broke at the French circuit during a test last season.

Guintoli to Make His Debut in Portimao

Frenchman Sylvain Guintoli will make his Team Suzuki Alstare debut in the last round of this year’s Superbike World Championship at the Autodromo Algarve in Portimao this coming weekend. Sylvain has already finished his season in the British Superbike Championship and joins the Suzuki Alstare this week, as a replacement for the injured Max Neukirchner, and will begin his preparation for next year’s Superbike World Championship with the team.
