Officers will be given the same powers as police officers to remove broken down or abandoned vehicles from the roadside to a secure compound, and the Secretary of State will have the power to store the vehicles removed by HATOs and recover costs from the vehicle’s owner, or destroy the vehicle, London Bikers has learned.

Police have released the name of a motorcycle passenger who was killed in a crash involving a car. Michael Grosse, 17, of Mulbarton near Norwich, was riding pillion on a Yamaha which collided with a Skoda at Horsham St Faith on Monday morning.

A man died when he was struck by a police motorbike. The pedestrian, aged in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene after the crash on Wednesday night in Southend Road, Ilford, east London.

A driver has been arrested after a car and a motorcycle crashed in West Sussex, killing the bike rider. The victim, a 60-year-old man from Horley, Surrey, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the A272 at Coneyhurst, near Billingshurst.

Maria Costello To Head Up Lancashire’s RideSafe BackSafe Initiative

Drink Driving Menace to Motorcyclists

The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG UK) welcomes the government's new anti drink drive campaign which was launched on Friday 20th July 2007. The campaign specifically targets those most likely to drink and drive who have been identified as male drivers between the ages of 17 and 29 years of age. Previous campaigns have involved 'shock horror' imagery but research has shown that this approach makes less of an impact on a generation of youngsters brought up on graphic, violent video games.

Such a crass and insensitive tactic to sensationalise a 'road safety' message without the consent and support of the family can never be justified under any circumstances.

Ex-policeman Jailed Over Bid To Dodge Speeding Fine

An ex-police officer who tried to dodge a speeding fine by claiming a Frenchman was driving his vehicle at the time was jailed today. Hrm, now surely it's not a common occurrence for somebody to get a jail term for perverting the course of justice and speeding 8mph over the limit? Copper or no copper, it's harsh, but I guess the lying was what got the judge's goat (doesn't this happen every time a guilty person defends themselves?).

Drink-Drive Biker Banned Day After Passing Test

A teenage motorcyclist has been banned from the road after he was caught over the drink-drive limit just one day after he passed his test. Jason Richards, 18, of Beccles, Suffolk, passed his motorbike test last Friday, but the next day he was pulled over by police and found to have 44mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35. Police yesterday said they believed the driving ban to be the quickest ever recorded in Suffolk.

Former Police Chief Joins Biker Campaign Group

The Motorcycle Action Group (MAG) is pleased to announce that it has employed David Short, the former Chief Superintendent of Police for North Yorkshire to head up the group’s political campaigns in the UK. MAG was looking for someone with the strategic discipline, intellect, presentational qualities to enhance MAG's credibility in political spheres. David has these skills in abundance allied to a mustard keen enthusiasm for biking and that most helpful of all qualities, he's likeable.
