Aprilia Team Takes Third SunTrust MOTO-ST Series Win

The No. 1 Aprilia USA/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Aprilia Tuono 1000R of Ty Howard (Weatherford, Texas) and Mike Himmelsbach (Quakertown, Pa.) was in an exceptionally familiar spot atop the podium in the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series. The team claimed its third victory of the year in the Thunderbolt 500k at New Jersey Motorsports Park, the sixth round of the seven-race series. The winners completed 119 laps of the 2.25-mile circuit in three hours, 46.211 seconds.

Pair-A-Nines - A Star-Studded Team

Since its inception in October 2006, the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series has boasted some of the most famous teams and riders to be found in two-wheeled racing. One such stand out team is the Pair-A-Nines, the 2007 Sport Twins class defending champions. Featuring an all-star line-up, this team's roster includes four AMA Hall of Famers; Gary Nixon, Jay Springsteen, Jimmy Filice and the legendary Bill Werner. A native of Wisconsin, Werner, who is the team's crew chief and engine builder, has one of the most outstanding reputations in the motorcycle industry. Tuning the motorcycles that carried Jay Springsteen, Scott Parker and Gary Scott to a total of 13 AMA Grand National championships and 130 national wins, Werner is easily the winningest tuner in AMA Grand National history.

The SunTrust MOTO-ST Series to Run June 7th at Road America

Round 3 of the 2008 SunTrust MOTO-ST Series at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisc. will take place on Saturday, June 7th. Competitors will move in on Thursday and qualifying will take place on Friday. Hosted by the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), this spectacular weekend will mark the first time that the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series has run with the AMA Pro Superbike Series. Not only will running with this popular series be a first for the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series teams, but it will also provide the additional prestige of being part of a major spectator motorsports event.

Aprilia USA Fastest in First Ever SunTrust MOTO-ST Series Qualifying

The defending SunTrust MOTO-ST Series champions Aprilia USA/Lloyd Brothers Motorsports will start on pole position for Sunday’s VIR SunTrust MOTO-ST 500k at Virginia International Raceway in Danville, Va. In the first qualifying session in the series two-year history Ty Howard of Weatherford, Tex. took the No. 1 Aprilia Tuono 1000R around the 3.27-mile VIR track in one minute, 59.443 seconds for an average speed of 98.557 miles per hour. Howard and teammate Mike Himmelsbach of Quakertown, Penn. won the season opening event at Daytona International Speedway and the No. 1 Aprilia leads the standings in the Buell Motorcycle Company SuperSport Twins (SST) class heading into this weekend’s second round of the series.

SpeedWerks.com Looks for Victory

Looking to make up ground, Team SpeedWerks.com is hoping to score the Sport Twins Class victory at Round 2 of the 2008 SunTrust MOTO-ST Series, April 27 at Virginia International Raceway. “This is definitely going to be an important round for us,” says team owner Steve Long. “We had an electrical problem on our No. 87 Suzuki SV650 at the season opener at Daytona which left us sitting in 12th place. It was really a bummer since we had a commanding lead and were running fifth overall. We did put our No. 86 Suzuki in fourth which softened the blow somewhat. Now we definitely need to step it up.
