Hammers Star Injured at Eastbourne
18 June 2008 | 1 Comment
The Lakeside Hammers Finnish international, Joonas Kylmakorpi, was involved in an horrendous crash during last night’s Sky Sports Elite League match away at Eastbourne. He dislocated a shoulder and will be sidelined from the Sport for around 14 days. The accident occurred during heat 14 of the match down at Eastbourne’s Arlington stadium and shocked not only those present but also the large audience watching the meeting live on Sky Sports. Kylmakorpi tangled with Eastbourne’s Australian rider Cameron Woodward down the back straight with Woodward clipping the fence. Both rides took heavy falls but the Australian was able to walk back to the pits unaided. However, the Hammers rider was not as fortunate as he had to take an ambulance ride off the track. It was diagnosed that Kylmakorpi had dislocated his shoulder and required a trip to the local hospital. The shoulder was put back in place and x-rays revealed no broken bones.

Speedway Elite League Match Against Wolverhampton Rained Off
07 June 2008
Friday evening's Eite League Speedway match at the Arena-Essex\Raceway between the Lakeside Hammers and Wolverhampton was called off less than two hours before the expected start time due to the track being waterlogged. Despite rain in the area for most of the day the Arena-Essex Raceway had remained dry until heavy rain hit the track around 5.45pm. After just 15 minutes the track had large puddles on it and the Club were faced with no option but to call the match off. This decision proved to be the correct one as the rain continued past the due start time and resulted in racing not being possible.

The initial staging of that race was stopped on the second lap when the Panthers No.2 Zdenek Simota took a tumble on the exit to the second bend.
