Strong Start for Rizla Suzuki Trio
Yesterday
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP’s three-pronged attack at the USGP at Laguna Seca in California got off to good start during the first day of practice, with all three riders showing promise for the weekend ahead. Chris Vermeulen (1’22.847, 61 laps) led the way for the boys in blue with the fifth fastest time of the day as he again showed his liking for the 3,610m American circuit. Vermeulen got a podium position here last year and will certainly be looking to emulate that this weekend.

Vermeulen Splashes to Superb Third at Sachsenring
6 Days ago
Chris Vermeulen raced his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R through the Sachsenring rain to earn a well deserved podium in today’s German Grand Prix. Vermeulen started from 14th on the grid and not only had to fight his way through the field, but was also hampered by heavy rain and the spray from the bikes in front, making visibility almost impossible. He made his way up to third place and challenged Valentino Rossi for second place by lap 10. He couldn’t quite close the gap on Rossi and although he came under heavy pressure towards the end of the race from Alex de Angelis, Vermeulen showed tremendous skill in the appalling conditions to bring his bike home on the podium for the first time this season.

Capirossi Battles Through The Pain at Sachsenring
11 July 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi made his comeback from injury at Sachsenring in Germany today and immediately set about his work with the same determination and conviction that he has shown all season. Capirossi (P12, 1’23.274, 56 laps) is still suffering from the puncture wound he sustained last time out in Assen, but the courageous Italian showed little sign on the track of the injury hampering his performance, as he completed as many laps of the 3,671m German circuit in the afternoon session as any other rider present. He will continue to have further medical assistance to help with his recovery tonight to ensure he is in the best possible condition for tomorrow’s qualifying and Sunday’s race.

Vermeulen Battles to Seventh at Dutch TT
30 June 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen was involved in a thrilling race at the Dutch TT today, eventually crossing the line in seventh place after many race-long battles. Vermeulen got a good start and was up into sixth by the end of the first lap - from eighth on the grid. He narrowly avoided a crash that forced him wide in the early part of the first lap, but was able to keep control of his Suzuki GSV-R and set about chasing riders in front of him. Vermeulen made a couple of superb overtaking manoeuvres as he made his way up into fourth place. He held on to that position for a few laps although he was under constant pressure from the group of riders around him. As the race progressed front grip became an issue and the 26-year-old Australian had to fight for every place. Vermeulen dropped down to eighth, but immediately fought back to bring his machine home for a hard earned seventh.

27 June 2008
Chris Vermeulen will start from the third row for tomorrow’s Dutch TT at Assen, after qualifying his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R in eighth place during this afternoon’s session. Vermeulen (1’36.768, 25 laps) lost a lot of valuable set-up time during this morning’s final free practice session due to a wet but drying track, following heavy overnight rain. He worked very hard during the qualifying to make up for the lost time and was pleased with the steps taken when it came to using his Bridgestone qualifying tyres to decide his starting position for tomorrow’s 26-lap race.

Vermeulen in Top 10 as Capirossi Crashes Out
26 June 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP had a day of mixed fortunes at Assen in the Netherlands today as Chris Vermeulen showed promising signs for the weekend ahead, whilst Loris Capirossi crashed at high-speed, resulting in a visit to the medical centre for an operation to his right forearm. Vermeulen (P10, 1’37.282, 54 laps) lost a bit of time in the morning as his mechanics worked hard on getting the best engine set-up for the 4,555m long Assen circuit. Their dedication paid dividends as he improved on every run throughout the day eventually clocking a fastest time at the end of the second session – on worn race tyres - that was only 0.463 seconds away from second place.

Vermeulen Splashes to Front Row at Donington
22 June 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen piloted his Suzuki GSV-R to his first front row grid position of the season, as he again showed his true class as one of the world’s best wet weather riders. Vermeulen (1’39.018, 29 laps) will start from third on the grid for tomorrow’s race at Donington Park after a near faultless performance on the wet 4,023m circuit that saw him in pole position several times in the hour-long session. Vermeulen had a crash in this morning’s practice that saw him lose valuable track time, but Suzuki’s Australian star was able to return to the track uninjured this afternoon and challenge for the front row, which leaves him well placed for tomorrow’s race – whether it is wet or dry.

Capirossi led the way for a large part of the afternoon session as he made long runs on his Suzuki GSV-R to test the durability of his Bridgestone race tyres. He was the busiest rider on track today completing 53 laps around the 4.7km circuit as he worked hard with his crew to find the most consistent set-up for his machine for Sunday’s 25-lap race. Capirossi Flies to Front Row Start in Mugello
31 May 2008
Loris Capirossi secured his first front row start of the season as he powered his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R to third place on the grid for tomorrow’s Italian GP. Capirossi (1’48.313, 26 laps) showed his intentions from this morning’s free practice session onwards. He was third quickest in the hour long session - even though a large amount of time was lost to bad weather. The experienced Italian used all his home-track knowledge today to record some very fast and consistent race simulation laps and will be looking to translate that form - and his best starting position since 2006 - into his best result of the season so far tomorrow.

Vermeulen on Top in the Wet
30 May 2008
Chris Vermeulen showed his wet weather skills to the full again today as he rode his Rizla Suzuki GSV-R to the top of the time-sheets at a rain-sodden Mugello in Italy. Vermeulen put in consistently fast laps during the full wet afternoon session to record a time over half-a-second quicker than his nearest rival. He had showed his intentions in the morning session – which started wet but dried out later on – as he also topped the classification early on. Towards the end of the session Vermeulen was able to get out on the 5.2km Italian circuit on slick race tyres to get some valuable data in readiness for Sunday’s race, and registered the seventh fastest time.

Fighting Fifth in France for Vermeulen
19 May 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Chris Vermeulen celebrated his best result so far this season by finishing in an impressive fifth position at Le Mans in France today, with team-mate Loris Capirossi crossing the line in an equally strong seventh place. Vermeulen started from eighth on the grid and made up a couple of places on the first lap. He then set three personal-best laps in succession as he moved into fifth place, and the Australian was in touch with the leaders as light rain started to fall on the 4’185m circuit. Track officials waved the white flags to signify that pit-lane was open if the riders wanted to change to their wet weather bikes, but Vermeulen - like most riders – chose to stay out and consolidate his position.

Capirossi & Vermeulen Robbed of Higher Finishes
04 May 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP’s Loris Capirossi was deprived of at least a top five position at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai today, through a mixture of bad luck and a small mistake. Capirossi was looking to challenge for a much higher position on lap five, but an error at the end of the back straight caused the Italian racer to run off the track. He re-joined the race in 12th place and began the task of chasing down the pack in front of him. Capirossi used all his experience to close in and pass five more riders to move him into seventh on the penultimate lap, but he suffered a transmission problem on the last lap and crossed the line in ninth position. This result gave Capirossi seven points, and moved him up to fifth in the riders’ championship.

Capirossi Confident Ahead of Portuguese GP
13 April 2008
Rizla Suzuki MotoGP racer Loris Capirossi is positive he can deliver a good result from tomorrow’s Portuguese Grand Prix despite qualifying on the fourth row after a big crash at Estoril today. Capirossi (P12, 1’37.786, 22 laps) was on his first qualifying tyre when he made a mistake going into a fast right-hand turn and lost traction, causing him to crash very spectacularly at high-speed. The gutsy Italian picked himself up and managed to get back to the pit-box to continue with the session, but he was unable to better the time he had set previously on race tyres. Capirossi and his crew had made big improvements to his Suzuki GSV-R during the early part of the qualifying session and was on a competitive race-pace towards the top of the time-sheets, which is certainly an encouraging sign for tomorrow’s 28-lap race.
