Top Ten For Lavilla at Monza

Vent Axia VK Honda rider Gregorio Lavilla overcame a couple of problems to post a pair of points scoring results in round five of the World Superbike Championship held at Monza in Italy yesterday. The Paul Bird Motorsport rider squeezed into Superpole in sixteenth position and was hoping for a pair of solid points scoring finishes at the historic Italian circuit. In the opening race, the 36 year old Spaniard had clawed his way up to eighth and was looking set for a good result when the machine started to run out of fuel on the final lap and he had to eventually coast in to an eleventh place finish at the end of the first 18 lap race.

Solid Points at Assen for Lavilla

Paul Bird Motorsport rider Gregorio Lavilla moved inside the top ten of the World Superbike Championship following a pair of great results in rounds seven and eight held at Assen in Holland today. Riding the Vent Axia and Kick Energy drink-backed Honda Fireblade, the 34 year old Spaniard posted fifteenth fastest time during the Superpole qualifying session and in the opening race, he battled against a poor start to come from twentieth on the opening lap to record a ninth position.

Best Yet For Lavilla At Valencia

Paul Bird Motorsport rider Gregorio Lavilla got to ride his 2008 Vent Axia VK Honda Fireblade in anger for the first time this weekend at the World Superbike Championship round in Valencia and set an immediate season best of seventh in race one. The Spanish rider followed that up with eleventh in race two, and he now sits eleventh overall in the championship, with 32 points. He is the second highest Honda rider in the rankings, two points ahead of his old BSB rival Ryuichi Kiyonari, and has scored in every race so far.

Hectic Weekend In Store For Birdy

Hot on the heels of his team’s points scoring results last weekend in the 2008 World Superbike Championship in Qatar, Vent Axia VK Honda team owner Paul Bird has another busy weekend planned. Spaniard Gregorio Lavilla left the Losail Circuit with a 13th and 14th place finish to show for his efforts despite some minor problems and he and the rest of the team are bound for Australia where the Phillip Island circuit hosts the next two rounds on Sunday (March 2nd)

Lavilla In The Points In Qatar

Paul Bird Motorsport rider Gregorio Lavilla got his World Superbike Championship challenge underway with two points scoring finishes at the Losail circuit in Qatar today. Riding the 2007 specification Vent Axia VK Honda Fireblade the Spanish rider posted a 13th place finish in race one, and followed it up with 14th in race two, despite suffering some lurid front end slides when he tried to push hard. The high winds in qualifying made finding a useable set up difficult, and that problem continued as raceday dawned relatively still, requiring some last minute changes to the machine.

The 2008 World Superbike Championship gets underway in Qatar next weekend (February 23rd) with the Paul Bird Motorsport Team set to make an historic transition to the series. After thirteen years of racing in the various British Championships, the decision was made to move to World Superbikes at the end of last season and expectations are high for the only British team racing in the series.

McGuinness Denied Victory In Macau

Stobart VK Vent Axia Honda rider John McGuinness was denied victory by the cruellest of fortunes in today’s 41st running of the Macau Grand Prix where he had to settle for second place. The 34 year old from Morecambe was riding for the Paul Bird Motorsport team in the Far Eastern classic and was holding a slender lead when on the fifteenth and final lap, the 13 times TT winner came upon some backmarkers at the Melco Hairpin.

Bird Takes Team To World Superbikes

Following on from discussions with his team’s current sponsors this week, double BSB winning team owner Paul Bird will make an audacious bid to land the World Superbike Championship next season. After negotiations with his 2007 riders Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne and Tom Sykes came to nothing, Bird brokered a deal with his backers which will see them all remain with the team for 2008 and as well as that budget, the Cumbrian poultry magnate has been offered some help from the HRC factory also.

Stobart Riders Secure Top Six In Championship

Despite an indifferent day at the final round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch today, Stobart Motorsport riders Shane Byrne and Tom Sykes claimed fifth and sixth position in the Championship respectively. After a superb performance in qualifying which saw both VK Vent Axia sponsored and Dunlop shod bikes on the front row of the grid neither rider could turn that into a podium and indeed both Byrne and Sykes only saw the chequered flag once each after a dramatic day of action in the Kent sunshine.

Front Row Start For Stobart Motorsport Duo

Stobart Vent Axia VK Motorsport riders Tom Sykes and Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne will start tomorrow’s final two rounds of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship from the front row following today’s qualifying session at Brands Hatch in Kent. For the first time this season with both riders on row one, 21 year old Sykes and 30 year old Byrne held first and second positions for much of the 50 minute session as the top riders fought it out around the tight Indy circuit but despite putting laps in underneath the lap record, Yorkshireman Sykes had to settle for second place on the grid with Zurich residing Londoner Byrne in fourth.

The penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship proved to be a successful one for the Stobart VK Vent Axia Motorsport Team when they recorded three podium finishes out of a possible four following a day of drama at Donington Park in Leicestershire today. Aboard the Dunlop shod Honda Fireblades, riders Tom Sykes and Shane Byrne secured the Paul Bird Team’s first ever British Superbike double podium in race one as 21 year old Sykes finished second ahead of 30 year old Byrne who was third and in race two Sykes made it a double celebration by finishing in second place once again.

Stobart Vent Axia VK Honda rider Tom Sykes continued his tremendous 2007 form by storming to his debut pole position at the penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Donington Park today. Following on from successful podiums at Croft and Cadwell last month, the 21 year old Yorkshireman put in a lap of 1m 30.901s which was under the existing lap record and as a result will start tomorrow’s two 20 lap races from pole position.

Stobart VK Vent Axia Motorsport rider Tom Sykes emerged from his local circuit of Croft with a superb double podium in both of today’s 20 lap Bennetts British Superbike Championship races. After qualifying on the front row of the grid, the 21 year old Yorkshireman ran with the leading bunch in both races as rain clouds threatened overhead, but showing maturity beyond his years, Sykes muscled his way up on to the podium in front of another bumper BSB crowd. The result moves him up to sixth in the Championship going into the next round at Cadwell Park in two weeks time.

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport rider Tom Sykes recorded his best qualifying position of the season when he just missed out on pole in today’s qualifying session for round eight of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Oulton Park meaning he will start from second place on the grid. Riding the VK backed Dunlop shod Honda Fireblade, the 21 year old Yorkshireman held provisional pole for much of the 50 minute session and was looking good to claim the team’s second pole position of the season but was edged out in the closing stages by the on-form Jonathan Rea.

Stobart Vent Axia Motorsport riders Tom Sykes and Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne just missed out on a podium each having had to settle for a fourth place finish in each of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship races which comprised round seven at a weather affected Knockhill earlier today. Qualifying on the front row of the grid for the second time this year, 21 year old Sykes followed up a sixth place finish in race one with a superb fourth place result in race two, just missing out on a podium position by 0.055 seconds as he battled with defending champion Ryuichi Kiyonari.

The 21 year old Yorkshireman took advantage in the early minutes of the one and only qualifying session to seal his best qualifying position of the season as shortly after he set his fastest lap the heavens opened and the rain came down.

The 30 year old Londoner had shown good pace throughout the free practice sessions and was confident of a good showing during the one qualifying session but his hopes were dealt a blow when he developed a problem with his number one bike and had to resort to his spare.
