Jeff Ward 2006 Supermoto Champion

Jeff Ward clinched the 2006 AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited with a second-place finish in the first leg of the Long Beach Supermoto finale dubbed the “Duel on the Docks” on Nov. 5, at the Queen Mary. Ward closed the season in style by winning the final race of the year aboard his Troy Lee Designs Honda CRF450R. It was a series leading ninth victory for Ward in ‘06.

Hodgson Battles To Third In Mid-Ohio Season Finale, Bostrom Fourth

Neil Hodgson finished off the 2006 season with a podium result at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and teammate Ben Bostrom was fourth to end the AMA Superbike season for Parts Unlimited Ducati. Hodgson ran strong in both ends of the red-flagged race, leading the event on lap 15. The Englishman challenged for the win on the Ducati 999 and in the middle portions of the race was especially strong in the "Thunder Valley" section of the track.

Ducati Parts Company With AMA...

Ducati North America and Ducati Corse today announce that their participation in the AMA Superbike Championship with a factory team will cease at the end of the 2006 season. The Parts Unlimited Ducati Team has successfully raced with the 999 Superbike in each of the last three seasons (winning five races as of today) and the American based Ducati subsidiary will now take a year to consider its future options.

Parts Unlimited Ducati's Neil Hodgson finished third in Saturday's AMA Superbike race at Virginia International Raceway. The Ducati 999 pilot eased a hard-earned gap on his rivals and ran a strong race, finishing on the podium at the tight, technical circuit. After fighting with the group that contested fourth place, Neil's teammate Ben Bostrom finished 11th on the day.

It's been a closely-kept secret for the past month that Ducati is seriously considering whether they will have a Superbike team in the US next season. Company execs said at the recent USGP at Laguna Seca that the high cost of racing in the US and the fact that Ducati must build special bikes to race here—not of the same spec at WSBK machinery—are the main motivators for them to end their racing effort in the US.

Both Parts Unlimited Ducati riders had to pit, which ruined their chances at another podium for the Ducati 999 Superbike. Although both riders mounted a challenge on Saturday, their final results didn't reflect their competitiveness.

Neil Hodgson earned a strong third place in Saturday's AMA Superbike race at Laguna Seca, producing a podium finish in front of the large crowd assembled for the US Grand Prix weekend. Ducati 999-mounted Hodgson charged through the field in the California heat, moving his way through a fierce pack of Superbike riders. Hodgson rose from sixth place in the early stages to challenge for second place in the 28-lap event. Teammate Ben Bostrom finished seventh despite dehydration forcing him to the medical center immediately after the race. Bostrom ran strongly in second place before becoming ill at the mid-point of the event.

Ben Bostrom and Neil Hodgson of the Parts Unlimited Ducati Team were sixth and seventh in the brief practice session held on Friday morning for this weekend's AMA Superbike race. Bostrom and Hodgson, like the rest of their AMA competitors, had little track time to adjust themselves to the changes at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Those significant changes included repaving and modifications to the famous Corkscrew turn.

Racing his Ducati 999, Ben showed both his aggressiveness and a veteran's talent for tire conservation to finish on the podium for the first time in 2006. His teammate Neil Hodgson finished right behind Bostrom in fourth place.

2006 Supermoto Championship Kicks Off At California Speedway

Pickerington, Ohio (April 24, 2006), On April 29 the 2006 AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited will take the green flag at California Speedway in Fontana. This is the fourth year of AMA Pro Racing’s newest championship series and it promises to be the best yet. Team Red Bull KTM HMC’s Jurgen Kunzel will be back to defend his 2005 championship. Other pre-season favorites include Troy Lee Honda’s Jeff Ward, the 2004 series champ, and Graves Yamaha teammates Doug Henry and Mark Burkhart.

Parts Unlimited Ducati Completes Test Program At Barber

Neil Hodgson and Ben Bostrom of the Parts Unlimited Ducati Team tested at Barber Motorsports Park on Monday and Tuesday. Both riders saw their schedule put into fast forward mode on Tuesday afternoon because of weather issues. Wet conditions at the tight 2.3-mile circuit on Tuesday morning kept the teams off the track until noon, but the afternoon saw a flurry of action on the Birmingham track. Fortunately, both riders were able to complete the testing program for their Ducati 999 Superbikes.
