Michelin Man Pedrosa Battles for Shanghai Victory

Michelin man Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V-Michelin) scored an important second-place finish at Shanghai today to take the World Championship lead after starting this race level on points with fellow Michelin man Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha Team YZR-M1-Michelin). Lorenzo rode a hero’s race to fourth, safeguarding second place in the points chase, despite injuring both his ankles when he crashed in Friday practice. Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda RC212V-Michelin) took a hard-fought sixth-place finish just ahead of pole-position man Colin Edwards (Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1-Michelin) to make it four Michelin men in the top seven.

Repsol Honda Riders on Rows Two & Four

Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden fought hard in a tough qualifying session at Shanghai this afternoon, ending up fifth and tenth quickest. Pedrosa, who had been just five hundredths of a second off the fastest time during the three free practice sessions, will start tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix from the second row of the grid. The Spaniard was trying as hard as ever, saving one major slide during the early stages of qualifying as he battled for a front-row start.

Lorenzo Escapes Serious Injury in Spectacular Crash

MotoGP World Championship leader Jorge Lorenzo escaped serious injury in a spectacular crash during the first practice session for the Grand Prix of China this morning (Friday). Lorenzo, who celebrates his 21st birthday on Sunday, was thrown high in the air when he highsided from his Fiat Yamaha coming out of turn two. The Mallorca - based rider who won his first MotoGP race in Portugal three weeks ago, was rushed to the medical centre at the Shanghai circuit and then taken to hospital for a scan. Incredibly Lorenzo, who is the current 250 cc World Champion, was diagnosed with a chipped bone in his left ankle, bruising to his right ankle and right knee but no fractures. A decision if he will be fit to ride in the qualifying session tomorrow afternoon will be made later.

Repsol Honda Duo Set for Chinese Challenge

Repsol Honda RC212V riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden travel to China aiming to build on the good work undertaken at the first three races of the 2008 MotoGP World Championship. Pedrosa, who holds equal first place in the points chase, will be aiming to repeat his 2006 Shanghai victory, his first success in the MotoGP class, to boost his 2008 title challenge. Hayden has had a tougher start to the season but shows every sign of challenging up front. At Jerez he rode to a close fourth-place result and at Estoril he was chasing a podium finish when he slid off.

Repsol Honda Men Make More Progress

Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden put in another day’s good work at sunny Estoril yesterday, testing Michelin tyres, fine-tuning machine setup and evaluating new chassis parts. The main focus of the post-Portuguese Grand Prix session was tyre testing, both riders trying a variety of different compounds. Joint World Championship leader Pedrosa used qualifying tyres to clock the fastest lap of the day while Hayden preferred to con centrate on riding in race trim with race tyres, recording the fastest lap of the day on race tyres and improving on his best lap during Sunday’s race.

Repsol’s Pedrosa Second In Tricky Race

Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa had a hard-fought ride to second place in tricky conditions at Estoril today while team-mate Nicky Hayden tumbled out of fourth place while sneaking up on the leading trio. The opening laps of the race were especially tricky because light rain showers had dampened several sections of the circuit. Pedrosa’s third successive podium finish from the first three races – third in Qatar, winner in Spain and second here in Portugal – makes him the equal points leader with today’s race winner Jorge Lorenzo.

Michelin Men Dominate First Three Rows

Michelin riders were able to dominate this afternoon’s Portuguese GP qualifying session, the French tyre brand’s seven MotoGP riders filling seven of the first eight places on the grid. Most impressive was dazzling rookie Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha Team YZR-M1-Michelin) who swept to his third successive pole position, maintaining his 100 per cent pole record by cutting almost six tenths off last year’s pole time. He was chased hard by Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V-Michelin) who ended the session just two tenths behind his compatriot to repeat the pair’s one-two qualifying performance at last month’s Spanish GP.

Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa was in impressive form at windswept Estoril today, heading a closely bunched leading group on the first day of practice, team-mate Nicky Hayden just 0.181 seconds down in fourth place. Strong, blustery winds and a morning rain shower complicated the day’s proceedings, but once the track was mostly d ry World Championship leader and Spanish GP winner Pedrosa quickly got into the groove to set the pace, recording the fastest lap of the day and establishing a good rhythm.

Vintage Hayden Inaugurates Indy Bike Track

2006 MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden today began the build-up to the first-ever Indianapolis MotoGP event by riding a vintage Indian motorcycle around the legendary Brick Yard racetrack, which now features a new layout for motorcycles. The Repsol Honda rider, one of seven Americans to have wor n motorcycling’s biggest crown, got fully into the part, wearing authentic vintage helmet and leathers. The Indian machine, which took part in the first Indy bike race in 1909, certainly impressed the Kentucky Kid.

Michelin riders have so far scored one victory and four podiums and they fill five of the top seven championship positions, with Andrea Dovizioso (JiR Team Scot Honda RC212V-Michelin) in fifth, followed by James Toseland (Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1-Michelin) and Nicky Hayden (Repsol Honda RC212V-Michelin).

Repsol Honda Completes Important Jerez Test

Repsol Honda riders Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa completed a vital two-day test session at Jerez today, putting both men in positive mood for upcoming races. Although the sun shone once again, conditions weren’t ideal with strong winds blowing dust and debris onto the circuit. For this reason Pedrosa stopped earlier than usual, at around 3.30pm. Hayden kept going till the end of the day, using qualifying tyres for his final, fastest lap.

Repsol Honda riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden were back to work at Jerez today following yesterday’s Spanish GP which Pedrosa won in brilliant style, Hayden building momentum with a fine ride to fourth. Pedrosa, whose first win of the year moved him into the World Championship lead, used the day to improve his knowledge of his RC212V with which he had limited preseason testing time due to a broken hand sustained in January. Hayden evaluated new parts and new settings, working hard to continue the impressive progress he made over the Spanish GP weekend, during which he raced a new chassis for the first time. Both riders used only race tyres today, while the fastest seven riders used qualifying tyres for their best laps.

Pedrosa Wins Big To Lead World Championship

Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa scored a dominant victory in front of 131,000 sun-drenched fans at Jerez today, his team-mate Nicky Hayden running in the leading pack for much of the race to finish a strong fourth. Pedrosa took over the lead from holeshot man Hayden at turn two and stayed out front for the rest of the 27 laps, setting a red-hot pace that put him and his Repsol Honda RC212V almost four seconds ahead at half distance. The Spaniard crossed the finish line 2.8 seconds in front of Valentino Rossi, having smashed both lap and race records.

Michelin Men Rule Jerez Qualifying

Michelin riders dominated qualifying at Jerez today, monopolising the front row of the grid, just like they did at Qatar three weeks ago. Michelin has strength in depth too, filling the first four grid positions and six of the first eight. Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha Team YZR-M1-Michelin) was in stunning form, the rookie recording his second pole position in his second MotoGP event! The Spaniard’s final run was electrifying and gave him the fastest-ever Jerez pole, just over two tenths quicker than last year’s pole sitter Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V-Michelin) who was second today. The front row was completed by Colin Edwards (Yamaha Tech 3 YZR-M1-Michelin), who also qualified third at Qatar.

Repsol Honda Riders On The Pace At Jerez

Repsol Honda riders Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa made a strong start to their Spanish GP weekend today, ending the first two practice sessions fourth and fifth fastest. Both riders’ best lap times were around lap record pace and less than half a second off today’s fastest lap. Hayden used a new spec chassis to achieve his best times of the day and prefers the new unit’s characteristics. Pedrosa, who struggled with his recently broken right hand during his last visit to Jerez in February, made excellent progress today, focusing on tyres and suspension. Tomorrow both riders will concentrate on longer tyre runs aboard their RC212Vs to prepare for Sunday’s race, round two of the 18-event 2008 MotoGP season.

Dani Fit & Ready To Give It Everything At Home

After a forceful ride in Qatar earlier this month Spanish star Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda RC212V) is set to make the first of three races in Spain his signal that he is more than ready for the challenge of the 2008 World Championship. But the way the World Championship is shaping up so far, he won’t be the only frontline Spanish rider to be gunning for the big prize on Sunday. Dani will relish the rivalry with Jorge Lorenzo (Yamaha) this weekend. And now he is nearing full fitness again, after injuring his throttle hand in a crash while testing in Malaysia, he is itching for action. The 2008 MotoGP World Championship moves to Europe following its Middle East kick-off with Repsol Honda RC212V riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden determined to shine at the Spanish GP, arguably the most spectacular event of the MotoGP year. Repsol Honda has a rich history of success at Jerez, with six wins recorded by Mick Doohan (1996), Alex Crivillé (1997, 1998 and 1999) and Valentino Rossi (2002 and 2003). Last year Pedrosa qualified on pole position and finished the race a close second. Hayden claimed a Spanish GP podium finish in 2006, his title-wining year.
