Ducati Concludes Three-Day Session at Mugello

The third and final day of testing, before the well deserved summer break, for Vittoriano Guareschi and Niccolo Canepa concluded today at Mugello. Vittoriano continued working on the scheduled development of the GP9. Niccola completed two long runs despites of the hot conditions and recorded a best time of 1.51.2.

Bayliss On Pole, Fabrizio 3rd & Canepa 6th

The second qualifying session of the weekend, held this morning, saw all three Ducati Xerox riders improve on the times they set yesterday, to qualify for Superpole in third (Bayliss), seventh (Fabrizio) and eighth place (Canepa). Superpole was action packed from the offset, with an immediate flying lap by Kiyonari, the first rider out, which really set the pace, as the next seven riders to exit were unable to beat his fast time. Niccolo' Canepa, participating in his very first Superpole here this afternoon, was the first of the three Ducati Xerox riders to go out and completed a near perfect lap to take eventual sixth place on tomorrow's grid.

Ducati Xerox Riders Take Provisional Places on Front Two Rows

In dry conditions all three of the Ducati Xerox riders, Bayliss, Fabrizio and Canepa, made a strong start to their campaign for victory this weekend at the Automotodrom of Brno. After a few tyre issues this morning for most of the Superbike riders due to the lack of grip on track after yesterday's rainfall, the field got back to business in this afternoon's first qualifying session. At the conclusion of that session it was local rider Smrz who had registered the fastest lap on his privateer Ducati bike. Troy Bayliss and his factory 1098 F08 recorded the third fastest time to take a provisional front row place on the grid while his two team-mates Michel Fabrizio and Niccolo' Canepa (the latter riding the F09 development machine) achieved the seventh and eighth fastest lap times respectively.

Ducati Xerox Satisfied With Results At End of Vallelunga Test

The Ducati Xerox Team continued to make great progress on the second and final day of testing at the Vallelunga circuit. The morning's session saw four Ducati bikes top the time sheets, with Xaus (Sterilgarda Go Eleven Team) just ahead of the Ducati Xerox riders Canepa (1'36.4), Bayliss (1'36.4) and Fabrizio (1'36.6). In the afternoon, yet another very warm session for the teams meant that the fastest seven riders were unable to improve on the times they set during the cooler morning session, and so most concentrated instead on completing race simulations or "long-runs" to better assess the performance of the tyres over longer distances and in hot conditions.

Bridgestone MotoGP Briefing - Germany

Following two sets of back-to-back races in Italy, Catalunya, Britain and the Netherlands in June, MotoGP’s action-packed 2008 tour continues with a third consecutive double-header, starting with this weekend’s trip to Germany, another of motorcycle racing’s most frequented destinations. This year’s event will be the 23rd premier class event to be held at the Sachsenring, which hosted its first race back in 1961, but will be the 66th race in total to be held on German soil since the championship began back in 1949. Sachsenring held the East German GP uninterrupted from 1961-1972 on a closed-road circuit, but rejoined the calendar with a brand new circuit in 1998, where it has remained since. Loris Capirossi scored the best ever result at Sachsenring for a Bridgestone-shod rider in last year’s German GP, taking second place for Ducati in difficult conditions with track temperatures soaring above 50°C. Having enjoyed debut dry weather victories in Mugello, Donington and Assen in recent weeks, Bridgestone will be hoping to cross Sachsenring off its ‘to do’ list this weekend, but is aware of the technical hurdles that it must first overcome.
