Toseland Pledges Support for THINK! Road Safety at Donington

MotoGP rider James Toseland, one of the biggest names in British motorsport, was greeted by hundreds of British Superbike (BSB) fans today as he visited the THINK! Motorcycle Academy at Donington Park in support of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) THINK! campaign. THINK! aims to reduce crashes involving motorcyclists by offering road safety advice and encouraging further training. Toseland who rides for the Tech 3 Yamaha MotoGP team, gave up a rare morning off from his punishing round-the-world race schedule to highlight to fans the importance of getting further training and honing their road riding skills. Hundreds of delighted fans gathered to watch the interview with the two-time World Superbike Champion who also talked about his inaugural MotoGP season and signed autographs on the THINK! stand.

Think! Motorcycle Academy Enjoys High Profile Nec Bike Show And Scoops Award For Best Trade Stand

The THINK! Motorcycle Academy enjoyed a hugely successful debut appearance at the 2007 International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, which came to a close on Sunday night at the NEC in Birmingham. The Academy, which is designed to promote the government’s road safety message and encourage riders to ‘Give their bike the skills it deserves’, scooped the award for ‘Best Trade Stand’ while attracting tens of thousands of visitors during the ten-day event.

Star Line Up Of Top Motorcyclists Set To Race At The Goodwood Revival

Legendary motorcycles and top riders are set to star in this year’s Goodwood Revival meeting, taking place at the Goodwood Motor Circuit near Chichester from 31 August to 2 September. The ever-popular Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy motorcycle race is always one of the most exciting and competitive events at the Goodwood Revival. This is the only historic motorcycle race in the world that regularly attracts Italian exotics such as Benelli, Ducati and Moto Guzzi in significant numbers. Battling against them will be British Manx Norton and Matchless machinery as well as early Hondas from the land of the rising sun.

Qualifying Cancelled at Mallory Park

Due to the torrential rain experienced throughout the Midlands in the past 24 hours, event organisers MCRCB took the decision to cancel qualifying sessions for round 9 of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Mallory Park today, 21 July. After making numerous track inspections throughout the morning, circuit staff set about the task of clearing standing water from both the track and crucial run-off areas. Finally deemed safe to ride, the afternoon was given over to wet weather practice sessions for all classes.

Superb Debut Podium For Tom Grant

Tom Grant gambled on improving weather conditions to secure his first podium finish ahead of team-mate Billy McConnell at Knockhill today, 1 July. The torrential rain had disappeared to leave a rapidly drying track as the Virgin Media Yamaha Supersport riders lined up next to each other on the third row of the grid. Both Tom and Billy had opted for a dry tyre combination, a decision that would prove to pay dividends during the second half of the reduced 20-lap race.

Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha riders, Tommy Hill and Hudson Kennaugh fell victim to the circumstances after the weather rapidly closed in early on in the Superbike Qualifying session. With only a handful of laps between them in the dry conditions they qualified in 10th and 14th respectively for round seven of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill yesterday.

The Virgin Media Optoma Loans Yamaha British Superbike team has turned tartan in honour of Scotland's only leg of the 2007 Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Knockhill this weekend, 29 June - 1 July. Tommy Hill arrived into Glasgow's George Square in style on his special liveried tartan Yamaha YZF-R1 ahead of the city's inaugural event, Superbikes in the Square. Kitted out in Glasgow's very own tartan print, the Lingfield star revealed the one off, new look design for the very first time with help from the glamorous Virgin Media Pit Police.

Smart Move Gives Midge Victory at Donington Park

Midge Smart kept his cards close to his chest to pull off a fantastic double and the aggregate win as the Virgin Media Cup took the MotoGP world by storm this weekend, 23 - 24 June. Practice and qualifying proved to be a tough mixed bag as the 26-strong grid took to the 2.5-mile circuit in wet conditions for the first time this season. However, respect must be given to Pirelli as the Diablo III's worked brilliantly in the mixed conditions producing some fantastic lap times, while most riders managed to keep sticky side down.

Words Of Wisdom Give Webb Win

Reigning World Sidecar champion, Tim Reeves was on hand to give James Webb a few words of wisdom before the start of the fifth round of the 2007 Virgin Media Cup at Snetterton today, 20 May. Scott David Paton took the holeshot from third on the grid, followed by Leon Morris who made a blistering start from fourth. James Webb settled into fifth, with BJ Toal in sixth on the Pirelli Diablo R6 for the opening exchanges. South African Dane Hellyer had looked strong all weekend but high-sided out of third and the race at Russell's at the end of Lap 3, offering Webb the opportunity to capitalise as he stole a number of places. Within half a lap Webb had gained the lead on the run in to the Bomb Hole and didn't look back.

The Virgin Media Cup race would prove once again to be one of the most exciting on the Bank Holiday schedule at Oulton Park, today, 7 May. James Webb took his second pole position in a row, but it was Leon Morris who snatched the holeshot from the outside of the front row. Midge Smart tucked into second, taking the lead with a slick move into Lodge at the end of the first lap. The following lap, James Webb made his move through the pack to move into the lead at Old Hall Bend. The front five runners made a quick break from Hellyer and Hipwell, before a Danny Brill crash at Hislop's chicane left debris across the track and the race was red flagged.

Pre-Season ‘Shakedown’ At Croft For Virgin Mobile

The Virgin Mobile Optoma Loans Yamaha race team took to the Croft circuit for the first time on the new 2007 Yamaha YZF-R1 yesterday, 28 February. The shakedown test was designed to familiarise the team with the new machines ahead of the planned test programme to include the official test at Snetterton at the end of March.

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne was challenging for pole position at the 13th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Brands Hatch when rain interrupted qualifying and left him frustrated in second place. Riding in front of his home fans, Shakey was in provisional pole for much of the 50-minute session. His lap time was bettered with 15-minutes remaining and before he could get out of the garage for another lap the rain started to fall, scuppering his chances of going any faster.

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne will start from eighth on the second row and James Haydon from 10th on the third row in tomorrow’s penultimate round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Silverstone. Shakey pushed to his limits on his final qualifying lap and ended up three-quarters of a second away from pole position. James, returning from injury after a three-month lay-off, kept going faster as the session progressed and is building his confidence quickly - he finished just 0.4 secs behind his team mate. Ducati’s Gregorio Lavilla is on pole position.

Rizla Suzuki’s James Haydon made his comeback ride after injury at the 12th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Silverstone today, finishing on the fourth row and with confidence he can cut his lap times ahead of the races. James, who missed four rounds of the Championship after injuring himself at Snetterton in mid-June, eased himself back into riding, but still managed to slash over half a second from his lap times from the morning to afternoon sessions and finished 15th on the time sheets.

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne rode a fantastic final qualifying lap to secure third place on the front row of the grid for tomorrow’s Bank Holiday double-header 11th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park. As the session drew to an end, Shakey’s crew changed his rear tyre in under 30-seconds so he could get out for a final qualifying lap. He didn’t disappoint and recorded his fastest time of the weekend.

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne will start from fifth place on the grid for tomorrow’s double-header 10th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Croft in North Yorkshire, as qualifying times fell more than a second under the pole position time set in 2005. The final afternoon session was intense, with Shakey one of just six riders to dip below the 1min 20secs barrier. His pace on race rubber is similar to the front row riders and he is counting on getting his trademark good starts tomorrow to challenge for the podium.

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne was fourth fastest during practice at the 10th round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at Croft in North Yorkshire today. Croft is Rizla Suzuki’s nominated test track and Shakey started the day with a strong base setting that he refined to suit the dry and windy conditions. He tried both his race bikes and is optimistic for qualifying and practice.
