Think! Motorcycle Academy Enjoys High Profile Nec Bike Show And Scoops Award For Best Trade Stand

The THINK! Motorcycle Academy enjoyed a hugely successful debut appearance at the 2007 International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, which came to a close on Sunday night at the NEC in Birmingham. The Academy, which is designed to promote the government’s road safety message and encourage riders to ‘Give their bike the skills it deserves’, scooped the award for ‘Best Trade Stand’ while attracting tens of thousands of visitors during the ten-day event.

Relaunched International Motorcycle & Scooter Show Closes Following Huge Acclaim And Over 149,000 Visitors

The relaunched International Motorcycle and Scooter Show closed its doors today after ten days which have been hailed by visitors and exhibitors alike as a resounding success. 149,215 people passed through the doors of Halls 1, 2, 3, 3a and 4 of the Birmingham NEC - a brand new location for the Show which had changed its dates to a month later in order to avoid a clash with other European motorcycle shows.

Bono’s Ducati Motorbike Sells At NEC Bike Show Auction For £11,500

A rare Ducati 916 motorcycle, owned by U2 front-man Bono, has sold at auction at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show, raising £11,500 for the charity Riders for Health. The stunning Ducati has a truly star-studded history having belonged to three of the biggest names in rock music – not only Bono but also the late INXS front-man Michael Hutchence and fellow U2 member Adam Clayton. Bono, a leading campaigner for Africa since the 1980s, donated the motorcycle to Riders for Health to raise money to help health workers in Africa reach rural villages with essential healthcare. He signed the tank of the bike with a touching personal message in memory of his late friend, Michael Hutchence, putting ‘For Michael, Bono’.

Bono’s Ducati Motorcycle To Be Auctioned At The NEC Bike Show

The red Ducati 916 owned and signed by U2 front-man Bono will be up for auction at the International Motorcycle and Scooter Show on Sunday 2nd December at 12.00pm, to raise money for the award winning charity Riders for Health. The auction will give visitors to the Birmingham NEC Show and pre-registered telephone bidders, the opportunity to take home the stars bike, previously owned by U2’s Adam Clayton, INXS front-man Michael Hutchence and U2 legend Bono.

Sykes Receives Rookie Of The Year Award

Rizla Suzuki’s Tom Sykes collected the Steve Hislop Memorial Trophy during the Bennetts British Superbike Awards at the International Motorcycle Show in Birmingham today. The trophy is awarded to the young rider who has improved the most over the season and this year it deservedly went to Sykes. In his debut British Superbike season he achieved six front row starts, one pole position and five podium finishes.

Kiyonari To Receive Champion’s Trophy

Ryuichi Kiyonari will take centre stage at the International Motorcycle Show at the National Exhibition Centre on Wednesday as he receives, for the second consecutive year, the Bennetts British Superbike Champion’s trophy. The HM Plant Honda rider sealed his title glory in the final round of a season that had seen him win no less than nine races in a hard fought campaign. The 25 year old Japanese rider will be presented with the magnificent trophy on the main stage of the show in a fast moving lunchtime spectacular that will provide an action replay of the highlights of a great season.

Dazzling New Bikes At The Motorcycle & Scooter Show

The International Motorcycle and Scooter Show 2007 opened today at the Birmingham NEC with one of the most spectacular line-ups of dazzling new motorcycles ever seen at the UK’s premier two-wheeled show. Some of the biggest names in motorcycling gathered to mark the start of the ten-day biking extravaganza, which runs until 2nd December. Highlights of the day included the appearance of Britain’s World Superbike Champion James Toseland, British Superbike legend Chris Walker, and world-famous biking adventurer Charley Boorman, not to mention UK bike premieres from BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, KTM, Suzuki and Yamaha. The biggest names have been queuing up this year to reveal their brand new bikes for the first time in the UK at this year’s Show, including the much anticipated return of Italian giants Ducati, the first ever show appearance by Benelli, as well as a stunning line-up of gleaming bikes from Harley-Davidson, Buell, Triumph, CCM, Hyosung, Victory and Vectrix.

New Statistics Suggest Impending EU Legislation is Bringing More People into Motorcycling

New statistics released by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) appear to show that the impending Second Driving Licence Directive (2DLD) EU legislation, coming into effect in October 2008, is getting more people out on two wheels as the number of people taking and passing their test has grown.

Hyosung Slashes Naked 125 Price

Hyosung, which recorded its best ever monthly sales in September, has slashed the price of its naked GT125 street bike by £250. The on-the-road price drops from £2,549 to £2,299 – a reduction of almost 10 per cent. Hyosung bikes are manufactured by S&T Motors in South Korea. UK sales are already up by 212 per cent this year and the price reduction of the GT125 will mean that Hyosung is increasingly taken seriously.
