Teka Suzuki Dominate Balen International

It was a busy weekend of race action for the Teka Suzuki WMX1 team as they took in National championship action in both Belgium and Germany. Friday's Balen International saw a display of dominance from the factory RM-Z450 mounted riders as Ken de Dycker won two motos while his team mate Steve Ramon won the other. Unfortunately crashes suffered by both riders meant that neither rider took the overall win.

Coppins 7th Through Tough Belgian Sand

The Yamaha Monster Motocross Team endured one of their hardest and most dramatic days of the 2008 FIM MX1-GP world championship as Josh Coppins finished 7th and David Philippaerts 10th through the notoriously heavy and difficult sand of the Lommel circuit for the Grand Prix of Belgium and the eleventh round of fifteen in the current campaign. Arguably one of the toughest tests for man and machine on the GP calendar, the rough and absorbing sand in central Belgium was suitably demanding, and the racing conditions were not helped by occasional light showers. 27,000 spectators saw two action-packed MX1 motos in which constant position changes took place thanks to varying race speed across the bumps and crashes and mistakes due to fatigue and miscalculation.

An extremely exciting finale to the 2008 season will get underway in the five remaining Grand Prix’s, starting with the Belgian round in Lommel this weekend. David Philippaerts holds the MX1 red plate but he is closely followed by 2007 World Champion Steve Ramon and Joshua Coppins.

Molson Kawasaki Team to Disband at Season End

After spending more than 10 fruitful years deeply involved in the sport, the MXGP world’s favourite family team has regrettably decided to cease all racing activities from the end of the 2008 season. After lengthy discussions Kawasaki Motors Europe and the collective Church family – who both own and operate the Molson Kawasaki Racing Team – have mutually agreed to amicably part ways after many beneficial years spent working together.

Getting better and better as the season progresses Kawasaki Racing Team’s Manuel Priem takes an impressive third place on the podium at the third round of the Belgian National Championship. With a handful of serious MX1 GP contenders in attendance the third round of the United Telecom Trophy held at Nismes was always going to be an exciting race and the fans who attended the Belgian championship race weren’t disappointed by the exciting on track action.

KTM MX1 Double with Barragan and Nagl

KTM rider Jonathan Barragan of Team Silver Action and Red Bull KTM factory rider Max Nagl rounded off a near perfect day for KTM at Nelstpruit South Africa snatching the top two overall places in the MX1 GP. The two riders onboard the KTM machines duplicated the MX2 GP results making the trip to the Southern Hemisphere well worthwhile for the Austrian manufacturer.

Teka Suzuki On New Ground In South Africa

A new venue for World Championship Motocross - Nelspruit - awaits Team Teka Suzuki WMX1 riders Steve Ramon and Ken De Dycker at this weekend's Grand Prix of South Africa - round 10 of the 15 round series. After putting in a good ride at the Swedish GP two weeks ago, reigning MX1 World Champion Ramon closed to within 12 points of the series leader David Philippaerts and enters the South African race hungry to close the gap even further.

Josh Coppins Takes First MX GP Win of 2008

An action packed weekend of Motocross racing ended today at Teutschenthal in front of 34,000 spectators. Kiwi Joshua Coppins came back to victory by finishing first in both heats and is now second in the Championship from Yamaha team mate David Philippaerts. Tyla Rattray wrapped up the overall and the red plate in the MX2 class. Home rider Steffi Laier won this penultimate round of the Women’s World Championship from series leader Livia Lancelot and Maria Franke.

De Dycker on MX1 Pole with Storming Final Lap in Germany

Day one of the German Grand Prix at Teutschenthal was a dry one and hosted some good qualifying action both in the MX1 and MX2 classes. Ken de Dycker took the eventual pole in MX1 while archrivals Tony Cairoli and Tyla Rattray won the qualifying heats to take the best two spots on the gate of tomorrow’s MX2 Grand Prix. In the Women’s Motocross World Championship qualifying session Livia Lancelot led from home riders Maria Franke and Larissa Papenmeier.

With a weekend off from the World Motocross Championship Manuel Priem and Tanel Leok each participated in rounds of their own National Championships. For Manuel this meant Kester in Belgium while Tanel travelled further afield to Jaanikese Krossirada in Estonia.

Kevin Strijbos' MX1 Return Put On Hold

Missing in Action since the Spanish GP back in April Grand Prix Kawasaki Racing's Kevin Strijbos is still on the mend after further thumb surgery. Grand Prix Kawasaki Racing’s Kevin Strijbos, who was due to return to MX1 World Championship action this weekend at St Jean D’Angely in France, will miss more of the season than originally expected due to ongoing problems with the thumb injury he picked up in Spain back in April.

David Philippaerts Keeps Red Plate in UK MX1

41,000 spectators, the largest attendance to see the FIM MX1-GP World Championship so far this season, followed Yamaha Monster Motocross Team's David Philippaerts take his fifth consecutive podium with third position on his YZ450FM. A busy and demanding Mallory Park hosted the British Grand Prix under grey skies for the sixth round of fifteen in the 2008 campaign. The brand new track provided riders with an unseen challenge and while the layout generally got a 'thumbs up' from the majority of the MX1 field, the new dirt was soft (from days of rain beforehand) and very rough; making overtaking a hard task. The course, built alongside - and using vast sections - of the historic road racing facility that used to entertain such luminaries such as Giacomo Agostini, Mike Hailwood and Barry Sheene, was inaugurated with some fantastic scenes.

Action All The Way at Mallory Park British MX GP

A perfect Grand Prix of Great Britain got underway at the brand new facility of Mallory Park, with a massive crowd of 41,000 people showing up to see the best Motocross series in the world which will come back to the Island on September 28th for the Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations at Donington Park. Jonathan Barragan took his maiden MX1 victory today in dry conditions while Antonio Cairoli won the MX2 Grand Prix to take also the red plate. Peter Iven took a clean sweep at round two of the Veterans’ World Cup winning both heats and storming to the top of the standings.

The British Grand Prix started under bright sunshine which no one was expecting. The weather should remain the same for the weekend when Sebastien Pourcel will start the MX1 Grand Prix from pole for the fourth time this season.
