Pedrosa & Hayden Aim High at Sepang
Yesterday
Repsol Honda Team RC212V riders Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden go into MotoGP’s tropical race aiming for the top step of the podium. Both men have scored top-three finishes at the last two races, making them optimistic of strong results at Sepang. Hayden scored his second podium of the year with a rousing ride to third place in the Australian Grand Prix on October 5, while Pedrosa took a hard-fought third in last month’s Japanese Grand Prix. Hayden has hit a rich vein of form recently, his Phillip Island podium following a brave ride to second place at the hurricane-hit Indianapolis GP.

Pedrosa Out of Luck on the Island
06 October 2008
Repsol Honda RC212V rider Dani Pedrosa had a luckless race at Phillip Island today, falling on the first lap. The tumble was a bitter disappointment for the Spaniard who had been in confident mood after running an impressive race pace in practice and qualifying on the second row of the grid. In tricky cool, sunny conditions Pedrosa got a good start, holding third place, then got sideways as the pack funnelled into the Southern Loop left-hander for the first time. He managed to regain control but ran wide and off the track at speed, falling heavily as ran across the grass. Pedrosa hurt his left knee in the crash. Despite the fall, the former 125 and 250 World Champion maintains his third position in the 2008 MotoGP World Championship with two rounds remaining.

Hayden Takes Third on the Island
06 October 2008
Repsol Honda RC212V rider Nicky Hayden rode to a brilliant podium finish at cool and sunny Phillip Island today, the result moving him up two places in the World Championship points standings to sixth overall with two rounds remaining. The 2006 World Champion’s third-place result at the fastest track of the year was his second podium in three races, following a brave ride to second in last month’s hurricane-hit Indianapolis Grand Prix. After qualifying third fastest yesterday, the American got a great start to go with race winner Casey Stoner, staying in touch with the Australian during the early stages. During the final few laps Hayden struggled with rear grip and came under pressure from newly crowned World Champion Valentino Rossi, the Italian snatching second place at the start of the very last lap. Hayden tried to counter attack at Honda hairpin but ran wide and had to settle for third. Fittingly for the fastest and greatest racetrack on the MotoGP calendar, the last three World Champions climbed the podium: Stoner, Rossi and Hayden.

Pedrosa on Second Row & Ready to Race
04 October 2008
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa will start tomorrow’s Australian Grand Prix from the second row of the grid following a strong performance in today’s record-breaking qualifying session. Pedrosa wasn’t fully satisfied with his best lap this afternoon, but he is very happy with his race pace, which is always more important than a one-off qualifying lap. The Spaniard worked hard throughout the day, working with his crew and his Bridgestone technician to choose the best race tyres. Conditions were especially cool this morning, but the track warmed up for the afternoon session, allowing Pedrosa to focus on race tyre choice, before switching to qualifying mode. His best qualifying lap was just six tenths off pole position.

Nicky Hayden today stormed to his second front-row start in as many weekends, the Repsol Honda rider showing dazzling speed aboard his RC212V around the hugely challenging Phillip Island racetrack. Hayden was in the fight for pole position throughout this afternoon’s qualifying session, run in cool, breezy conditions. He twice set the pace before ending up third quickest, just 0.091 seconds off the fastest time, and was one of four men to break his own 1m 29.020s outright track record, which he established in 2006, the last year of the 990s.

04 October 2008
Repsol Honda RC212V rider Nicky Hayden dominated this afternoon’s soaking-wet second practice session at Phillip Island, lapping the high-speed seaside track three quarters of a second faster than his closest rival. The American has been using his Michelin rain tyres to stunning effect recently, topping last weekend’s rain-hit opening session at Motegi and finishing second in the hurricane-hit Indianapolis GP two weeks earlier. The 2008 MotoGP season is proving to be the wettest in memory, with rain falling at the vast majority of events so far.

This is the first time that both riders will race with Honda’s pneumatic-valve engine. Until now Pedrosa has raced a conventional spring-valve engine, while Hayden first raced the pneumatic-valve engine at June’s British Grand Prix. Pedrosa opted to use the new machine following an impressive post-San Marino GP test session during which he enjoyed the pneumatic-valve engine’s superior performance.

Pedrosa Enjoys Positive Misano Test
02 September 2008
Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa had an intensive day of testing at Misano today, making his debut with Bridgestone tyres and testing Honda’s pneumatic-valve RC212V. He enjoyed a positive feeling with the tyres and set a fast pace at the end of the day using the pneumatic-valve machine. Pedrosa rode from 13.30 to 18.15, starting out with the spring-valve RCV that he used during the weekend’s San Marino GP. The Spaniard began the process of adjusting bike set-up to suit the Bridgestones and got on well with the tyres.

01 September 2008
Repsol Honda RC212V rider Dani Pedrosa battled for a podium result at red-hot Misano this afternoon, the Spaniard eventually finishing fourth to bolster his third place in the World Championship. Team-mate Nicky Hayden did not race to prevent further aggravating his right foot injury. Pedrosa rode a strong race in 35 degree heat, announcing that he is on the way back to full fitness following the left hand and wrist injuries he suffered in last month’s German GP. He completed the first lap in second place, slipped to fifth, then fought back in the mid-stages to challenge for third place. It was his best result since he finished a brilliant second in June’s Dutch MotoGP round

Repsol Honda Make steady Start in Misano
30 August 2008
Repsol Honda riders Nicky Hayden and Dani Pedrosa made a steady start to this weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix, ending the first day of practice 11th and 12th fastest. Hayden is making his return following a foot injury sustained in a Supermoto incident at the Los Angeles X Games on August 1. The American cracked two bones in his right heel and is still walking with the aid of a walking stick or crutches because the less weight he puts on the foot, the quicker the bones will heal. Foot injuries are a significant handicap for bike racers, because they pressure the footrests to steer the motorcycle.

Repsol Honda Back to Full Strength

The Repsol Honda Team will be back to full strength for the San Marino Grand Prix, with Nicky Hayden coming back from injury to rejoin team-mate Dani Pedrosa. Hayden missed the recent Czech GP due to a foot injury sustained during an X Games Supermoto event in Los Angeles on August 1. Doctors told the 2006 MotoGP World Champion that a hasty return to racing might complicate the right-heel injury, advising him to delay his comeback until Misano.

Pedrosa stopped testing at 12.30pm, while Okada continued for the rest of the day. Repsol Honda rider Dani Pedrosa had a demoralising ride to 15th in this afternoon’s Czech Grand Prix, the Spaniard badly troubled by tyre problems. Pedrosa, returning from the hand and wrist injuries he sustained during last month’s German GP, struggled throughout the weekend with lack of grip, his Michelin tyres not up to the expected level of performance in practice or today’s race. Yesterday he qualified 12th in a rain-lashed qualifying session. Despite the problems Pedrosa is still third in the World Championship points standings, with six of eighteen rounds remaining.

This morning’s practice session was also run in the wet, though the rain was heavier this afternoon and intensified as the session went on, the track waterlogged in several places by the time the chequered flag came out. Like most riders, Pedrosa rode his fastest lap in the earlier stages when there was less surface water.

21 July 2008

The American was the Repsol Honda team’s sole representative in the US GP after team-mate Dani Pedrosa yesterday withdrew due to the severity of the injuries he suffered in Germany last Sunday. Hayden made a great start from the front row of the grid, holding third place for the first seven laps. He then spent the middle stage of the race battling for fourth place with Andrea Dovizioso, eventually finishing just behind the Italian. Hayden won this race in 2005 and 2006 but today he recorded his fastest-ever Laguna race time, 25 seconds quicker than his winning 2006 pace. He was a non-finisher last year.

20 July 2008
Repsol Honda rider Nicky Hayden will start tomorrow’s US GP from the front row of the grid following a stirring charge in the final stages of this afternoon’s qualifying session.
