Kawasaki Continues Development at Misano

Kawasaki's John Hopkins and Anthony West returned to the Misano circuit today for a one-day post-race test, to continue development of their upgraded Ninja ZX-RR race machines. Hopkins was keen to make up for track time lost recently to his Assen and Brno injuries, and spent the five hours on track running through an extensive test programme, concentrating particularly on improving the front-end stability of his machine.

Tough Weekend At Misano Ends With Points

Kawasaki's Anthony West and John Hopkins brought their Ninja ZX-RR MotoGP machines home in the points during this afternoon's Grand Prix of Cinzano Di San Marino E Riviera Di Rimini. But, despite the points haul, both riders were frustrated not to have finished further up the field, especially after such a promising performance with the evolution version of Kawasaki's MotoGP racer last time out in Brno.

Kawasaki Looking for Improvements at Misano

Anthony West was the sole Kawasaki rider on the timesheet after today's two free practice sessions at Misano Adriatico, after complications with the rib injury he sustained in a practice crash at Brno forced John Hopkins to sit out the opening track sessions. Following his career-best MotoGP result last time out at Brno, West was looking forward to boarding his Ninja ZX-RR this weekend at the San Marino circuit. However, the 27-year-old Australian has been plagued with a lack of confidence in the front-end of his race machine around the 4.20km track, and was disappointed not to have made more of an impression on the rest of the field.

Confident Kawasaki Head to Misano

Kawasaki's Anthony West and John Hopkins head for the Republic of San Marino and the Misano circuit for round 13 of the MotoGP World Championship in confident mood, after improvements to the Ninja ZX-RR led to a strong showing by both riders last time out at Brno. Anthony West secured a career best finish with fifth place in the Czech Republic Grand Prix, and after making further steps forward with the set-up of his Ninja ZX-RR during the post race test at the Brno circuit, the 27-year-old Kawasaki pilot heads for Misano determined to continue his run of form into this weekend's Grand Prix Di San Marino E Della Riviera Di Rimini.

Kawasaki Development Continues at Brno

The Kawasaki Racing Team brought to a conclusion a successful two-day test at the Brno circuit today, where perfect testing conditions allowed Anthony West and Olivier Jacque to work their way through an intensive evaluation programme aboard their Ninja ZX-RR machines. As Kawasaki's test and development rider, it was Jacque who shouldered most of the testing duties over the course of the two days. The former 250cc world champion completed a total of 87 laps of the 5.403km Brno circuit, as he worked with his crew to further refine the same upgrades on his Ninja ZX-RR that helped West to a career best fifth place finish in Sunday's Czech Republic Grand Prix.

Career Best West Flies to Fifth at Brno

Kawasaki’s Anthony West achieved a MotoGP career best finish today, with a determined ride to fifth place aboard his Ninja ZX-RR at the Czech Republic Grand Prix. With a complete contrast in weather conditions following yesterday’s rain-soaked qualifying, West made a strong start to the 22-lap dry race from sixth position on the grid. Fourth into the first corner, the Australian rider immediately came under attack from the pursuing pack and, despite doing everything in his power to keep them at bay, the Kawasaki pilot dropped back to settle into a steady rhythm in sixth place.

Front Row for Comeback King Hopkins in Brno

Kawasaki’s John Hopkins and Anthony West will start tomorrow’s Czech Republic Grand Prix from the front two rows of the grid after defying the treacherous wet conditions in today’s qualifying to finish in third and sixth positions respectively. Hopkins has made an impressive return to the track after a three-race absence to score his first front row start of the season aboard his Ninja ZX-RR. The Anglo-American adopted a specific strategy at the Brno circuit, which allowed him to set the third fastest time in the early part of today’s timed session.

John Hopkins showed today that an enforced seven week lay-off through injury hasn't blunted his skills, as he made his racing return aboard an evolution version of Kawasaki's Ninja ZX-RR MotoGP racer during today's opening practice sessions at Brno. Despite a fall in each of the one-hour sessions, Hopkins felt confident that the revised specification engine and chassis components added to his Ninja ZX-RR for this weekend have made a vast improvement. The 25-year-old Kawasaki pilot finished the day eighth overall at the 5.403km Brno circuit, after posting his fastest time on his last lap.

The 37-year-old AMA Superbike star, deputising this weekend for injured compatriot John Hopkins, started today's 33-lap USGP from the last row of the grid, but was quick to make up places in the early stages of the race.

The US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca will mark the MotoGP debut of AMA Superbike contender Jamie Hacking, who will deputise for the injured John Hopkins aboard Kawasaki's Ninja ZX-RR this weekend. Hacking, who received the call-up to MotoGP during his 37th birthday celebrations two weeks ago, has already impressed aboard the Ninja ZX-RR during a two-day, pre-race test at the Autopolis circuit in Japan, where he broke the lap record. The three-time AMA champion arrives in Laguna determined to match, or even exceed, the performance of his Kawasaki teammate, Roger Lee Hayden, who finished tenth as a wild card rider in this race twelve months ago.

Top Ten for West at Wet Sachsenring

Anthony West overcame a painful back injury and treacherous conditions to match his best result of the season at Sachsenring today. The Kawasaki pilot crossed the line in tenth place aboard his Ninja ZX-RR after crashing and remounting earlier in the 30-lap race. West had a huge crash in practice on Friday, leaving him with what was originally thought to be a badly bruised back. However, a further medical examination and x-rays on Saturday evening revealed fractured vertebrae identical to the injury suffered by his teammate, John Hopkins, at Catalunya.

West Looks for Improvements at Sachsenring

Kawasaki's Anthony West endured another difficult day at Sachsenring today, qualifying in 17th place after a high-speed crash during this morning's free practice session saw him struggling to regain confidence in the front end grip of his Ninja ZX-RR during this afternoon's timed session. West crashed heavily halfway through this morning's hour-long session, losing the front of his Ninja ZX-RR at Turn Eight, the 200km/h downhill right-hander that also claimed pole position man Casey Stoner during yesterday's afternoon practice. The Kawasaki pilot was lucky to walk away uninjured, but his Ninja ZX-RR required extensive repairs as a result of the crash.

Kawasaki's Anthony West bounced back from a high-speed crash this morning, to finish the opening day of practice for Sunday's German Grand Prix at Sachsenring 15th fastest on combined times. The 26-year-old Australian had been lapping consistently throughout the hour-long morning session, as he worked with his crew to improve the braking stability of his Ninja ZX-RR. But as the session drew to a close, West lost the front of his Kawasaki on the entry to the 230 km/h left-hander at turn six, crashing heavily.

Anthony West will be the sole Kawasaki pilot on the grid for this weekend's German Grand Prix at Sachsenring, as teammate John Hopkins is forced to sit out the next two races due to injuries sustained during a high-speed qualifying crash at Assen two weeks ago. West heads into this weekend's race determined to make amends for a disappointing result last time out at the Dutch TT, where a lap seven crash while lying 11th ended his hopes of a second top ten finish in succession. After the disappointment of the qualifying crash that sidelined John Hopkins, the Kawasaki Racing Team were dealt a double blow at Assen today when Anthony West crashed out of the Dutch TT just 7 laps into the race. The 26-year-old Kawasaki pilot got a good start from the sixth row of the grid, but lost contact with the group ahead of him after losing time avoiding Alex De Angelis, who highsided himself out the race on the opening lap, right in front of West's Ninja ZX-RR.

Qualifying Crash Rules Hopkins Out of Assen Race

Kawasaki's John Hopkins has been ruled out of tomorrow's Dutch TT at Assen, after sustaining a fractured left ankle and suspected compression injuries to his left knee in a high-speed crash during this afternoon's qualifying session. The 25-year-old Anglo-American lost the front of his Ninja ZX-RR under braking for the left-hander at turn 12, one of the fastest corners on the Assen circuit, in the closing minutes of the timed session. Hopkins managed to separate himself from his sliding Ninja ZX-RR, but sustained the injuries to his left leg when he collided with the tyre wall on the outside of the corner.

Kawasaki's John Hopkins completed the opening practice day at the Assen circuit in a confident mood, having made further improvements to his Ninja ZX-RR and finishing in eighth place overall. Hopkins was pleased to be challenging for top positions after finding a good machine setting. With only half a second separating second and 12th position on the timesheet, competition is already fierce on the opening day of the Dutch TT. Hopkins is running an upgraded version of Kawasaki's Ninja ZX-RR engine this weekend and this, together with improvements in set-up over the last two races, means that Hopkins is confident of improving further his position ahead of the race.

Injured Hopkins Fights for Top Ten

John Hopkins demonstrated true grit and determination today at the Grand Prix of Catalunya to bring his Ninja ZX-RR home in 10th position, despite carrying a back injury sustained in Friday’s practice. Hopkins got a steady start to the 25-lap race and pushed as hard as possible, despite being unable to move around easily on his race machine, to make up positions around the 4.727km circuit. The 25-year-old Kawasaki pilot settled into a rhythm and circulated on his own for most of the race, riding through the pain barrier, to cross the line with a very creditable top ten finish.
