The weather has gradually worsened since the paddock pitched up at the Twin Ring, with the blue skies and warm temperatures that welcomed the teams and riders to the circuit on Thursday making way for cloudy and cool conditions yesterday before today’s downpour.

The MotoGP World Championship has arrived in Japan much earlier than usual, with the Motegi circuit hosting the second round of the season as opposed to one of the decisive later races, and the springtime temperatures provided the teams and riders with a fresh challenge – figuratively and literally speaking – out on the track, and with 45 minutes available in today’s first free practice session, Ducati Marlboro pair Casey Stoner and Nicky Hayden had to work quickly on the set-up of their Desmosedici machines.

Difficult Start For The Pramac Racing In The First Day Of Practice In Japan

In the first forty-five minutes of free practice of the Japanese Grand Prix, second round of the 2009 MotoGP World Championship, things didn't go too well for the Pramac Racing Team. Mika Kallio has started quite well positioning in tenth place after a few minutes, but around half session he felt with his Ducati Desmosedici GP9 Sat losing a lot of time before stepping back on track. His teammate, Niccolò Canepa, rode on the Motegi circuit for the first time today and has therefore used these first minutes to learn the track. The two riders are now respectively in seventeenth and eighteenth position. The white and red duo will have at its disposal another free practice tomorrow morning to try to be more competitive during qualifying session that will start at 2.05pm local time.

This afternoon’s session was run in cool, dry conditions but with the weather looking unsettled for the rest of the weekend this might be the only dry session before the race and therefore data gathered today could prove key.
