Toseland Back Into The Unknown

After disappointments at two circuits he knows well, James Toseland returns to his journey into the unknown at the Alice Grand Prix of Germany at the tight twisty Sachsenring on Sunday. The 27 year old Yorkshireman has shown already in his MotoGP debut season how quickly he can learn new circuits on the Tech 3 Yamaha and the tenth round of the MotoGP World Championship should be no exception. Toseland crashed in Donington and struggled with the set-up in Assen to eventually finish in ninth place but still holds eighth place in the Championship, just ten points behind former World Champion Nicky Hayden.

KTM Racing Shows How It's Done

Tyre Problem Slows Mika Kallio at Dutch 250cc GP

Mika Kallio rode a courageous 250 cc GP at Assen on Saturday coming from behind to third place before all hopes of a podium faded when he experienced tyre troubles. In what has been a difficult weekend for the Finnish championship leader he made a dramatic recovery from the difficulties in setting up his Red Bull KTM 250 for the fast and challenging Assen circuit. He stormed to the front group of riders, holding fifth, fourth and even third place on the opening laps. But the tyre trouble intervened. He slipped back to finish in seventh place, which left him holding onto his world championship lead by one single point. Team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama, who had been even further back on the grid in thirteenth position, also worked his way up through the ranks to eventually finish in sixth place ahead of Kallio. Repsol KTM rider Julian Simon rode to a lonely tenth place.

Toseland Picks Himself Up & Prepares For Assen Battle

His pride may be damaged and his hand bruised but James Toseland has already put the Donington disaster behind him as he prepares for the next contest, the A-Style Dutch TT at Assen on Saturday. The 27 year old Yorkshireman arrives at the ninth round of the MotoGP World Championship with a winning pedigree at the 2.830 miles circuit in the World Superbike Championship. The Tech 3 Yamaha rider is eighth in the World Championship in his debut MotoGP season and will forget that first bend crash at Donington as soon as practice starts on Thursday morning.

Toseland Chasing a British Dream

It’s the weekend of the year that all British Motorcycle racing fans have been waiting for the bwin.com British Grand Prix at Donington Park. It’s the weekend when Britain’s MotoGP stars return home to race at the 2.50 miles Parkland circuit for their only British appearances of the season. Spearheading the British challenge is 27 year old Yorkshireman James Toseland who returns to the circuit where he won a World Superbike Championship race last year. Riding the Tech 3 Yamaha he’s made a superb start to his MotoGP career and after four sixth places in the opening seven rounds he lies seventh in his MotoGP debut season.

There is hardly time for the British riders to catch their breath as they race from Italy to Spain to compete in the Cinzano Grand Prix of Catalunya in Barcelona on Sunday. For James Toseland it’s a new experience as he prepares to pit his considerable skill against the demands of the superb 2.937 miles Circuit De Catalunya for the very first time. For the British 125 cc youngsters it’s a familiar path because Bradley Smith, Danny Webb and Scott Redding have all honed their World Championship skills in the Barcelona based MotoGP academy and in the Spanish 125 cc Championship. Ulsterman Eugene Laverty also faces the 250 cc race after equalling his best ever grand prix finish at Mugello on Sunday.

Good Result for KTM Despite Problems

Red Bull KTM star Mika Kallio rode to an incredible fourth place in Sunday's Italian Grand Prix overcoming a damaged clutch that made it very difficult to shift through the gears of his KTM FRR 250 machine.
The 24-year-old Finn dropped back to the middle of the pack when the problem emerged going into the first turn of the famous Italian racing circuit of Mugello. It is a testament to his incredible skill and determination that he was able to recover and finish with a top position. The World Champion leader took 13 valuable points for his efforts and increased his lead in the point standings. He is now 18 points clear of second placed Mattia Pasini. Kallio's previous best performance on the Mugello circuit was in 2006 when he was sixth in the 125cc race.

Red Bull KTM 250 star Mika Kallio topped the time sheets for most of the final 250 cc session. But he narrowly missed the pole when three fast competitors overtook to leave him on the front row in fourth place for Sunday's 250 cc Grand Prix of Italy. Kallio's team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama crashed early on in the session and had to continue with his spare bike, but is nevertheless confident for the race after finishing in tenth position.

Toseland Aims to Erase Those Le Mans Blues

James Toseland returns to the MotoGP fray at Mugello determined to erase memories of his Le Mans crash and get down to some serious points scoring. The 27 year old Yorkshireman has never raced at the legendary Italian venue but that’s nothing new this season for the Tech 3 Yamaha rider who has at least ridden round the track on a superbike but never in a race. He’s made a tremendous start to his MotoGP career and it was only his tangle with Andre Dovizioso in France that has dropped him to ninth place in the title chase after five rounds. Seventeen year old Bradley Smith arrives in Mugello full of confidence after his second place in the 125 cc race at Le Mans. It was an important result for the Polaris World Aprilia rider after he’d crashed out in Portugal and China. With four races in the next five weeks he must keep up with those podium finishes to improve on his eighth place in the Championship.

Red Bull KTM 250 star Mika Kallio decided to play it safe in damp and difficult conditions at the French 250 cc Grand Prix on Sunday to finish fifth and consolidate his leading position in the championship standings. On a day where fickle weather conditions prevailed at the famous French racing circuit, Kallio started with cut slicks and battled his way through the second group of riders when the track started to dry out. He even looked set for his fifth podium finish of the year when he swept past his opponents Mattia Pasini and Yuki Takahashi with four laps to go.

Red Bull KTM 250 stars Mika Kallio and Hiroshi Aoyama mastered treacherous conditions in today's wet Grand Prix of China to score a fantastic double victory for KTM. It was the second one-two for the Austrian manufacturer in the 250 cc category after Aoyama won the German Grand Prix last year ahead of his team-mate. Pole-sitter Alvaro Bautista had established an early lead, but when the young Spaniard crashed out on the ninth lap of the race, Kallio had a clear track ahead and rode to a comfortable win despite increasing grip problems on the drying tarmac.

In a thrilling final qualifying session for tomorrow's Chinese Grand Prix, Repsol KTM 250 rider Julian Simon moved up to fourth place, celebrating his first ever front row starting position with his new machine. The 21-year-old Spanish hero, who graduated as a top GP contender in the official KTM 125 team two years ago, and returned to the Austrian brand after gaining his first year of 250 cc experience in another team, will start alongside star in third position. The 25-year-old Finn, current world championship leader with one victory and three podium finishes in the opening three races of the season, established himself firmly within the top riders in China on the first day of practice, but missed out on an even better practice time when the slid off the track on his last run on softer tyres in today's final qualifying session.

KTM Riders Test The Mettle of Jerez Circuit and Finish in High Spirits

KTM 250 riders wrapped up the official preseason testing session in Jerez on Thursday on the high note with Repsol-KTM rider Julian Simon in fifth, and the official factory riders Mika Kallio and Hiroshi Aoyama in a very close sixth and seventh position.All three riders were consistently among the top performers in the three days of testing on the Spanish circuit and all agreed they could have gone even faster. Regrettably the final decisive run for good lap times was cut short when the last session was red-flagged after a crash ten minutes from the end.
