Watanbe Clinches Japan SBK Title!

Yoshimura Suzuki's Atsushi Watanabe clinched the Japanese Superbike Championship at the seventh and final round at Suzuka at the weekend.It was his second title, the first being in 2002, and the first for the Yoshimura team since Doug Polen raced to victory in the TT-F1 and TT-F3 championships in 1989. GSX-R1000-mounted Watanabe won the opening round at Twinring Motegi and rode consistently throughout, winning two races and taking to the podium four times.

Akiyoshi Takes Tsukuba Podium

Suzuki factory test rider Kousuke Akiyoshi raced his Wins GSX-R1000 to his first podium of the season at the third round of the All Japan Superbike series at Tsukuba. After smashing the lap record to record pole position, Akiyoshi and Yoshimura Suzuki's Atsushi Watanabe trailed Yamaha's Norick Abe into the opening corner before Akiyoshi took the lead before the end of the opening lap. The race was red flagged twice due to fallen riders in the track and on the final restart, Abe led again with the Suzuki men further back in the pack.

Yoshimura Suzuki continues to dominate the All Japan Superbike Championship following Atsushi Watanabe's third position at the weekend's second round at Suzuka in front of 30,000 fans. The GSX-R1000-mounted rider, who claimed overall victory at the opening race at Twinring-Motegi two weeks ago, was unlucky not to have finished higher after being hit by another rider in the final chicane on the final lap.

Yoshimura Suzuki's Atsushi Watanabe raced the brand new GSX-R1000K7 to victory in the opening round of the Japanese Superbike Championship at Twinring-Motegi at the weekend after starting from sixth position on the grid. Following a wet Saturday qualifying session, the Suzuki rider made his challenge at the half-way stage of the dry 20-lap race, catching up to leaders and taking to the front with five laps remaining after carving past the leading trio in as many laps.

Kagayama And Suzuki Win In Japan

World Superbike rider Yukio Kagayama raced to victory in the final round of the Japanese Superbike Championship at Suzuka on Sunday as Suzuki clinched the series Manufacturer Championship. The GSX-R1000-mounted Alstare Suzuki rider formed his own team “JK Suzuki with Bright Logic” for the race, which was his first home championship appearance since 2002.

Watanabe Takes Japan Superbike Lead

Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Atsushi Watanabe has taken over the lead in the All Japan Superbike Championship after finishing second at Sunday’s Suzuka second round. After wet qualifying and morning warm-up, the GSX-R1000 mounted rider took the lead early on followed by team mate Kousuke Akiyoshi, who then moved to the front at the end of the opening lap. But Akiyoshi fell one lap later because of oil on the circuit which caused the race to be red flagged.

Akiyoshi On Japan Superbike Pole For Suzuki

Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Kousuke Akiyoshi took his first pole position of the season today for the second-round All Japan Superbike Championship round at Suzuka tomorrow. Akiyoshi set his fastest time of 2:23.233 in the final qualifying session under wet and misty conditions as team mate Atsushi Watanabe recorded the third fastest time of the day with 2:25.199.

Watanabe Takes Motegi Podium

Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Atsushi Watanabe raced to third position in the opening round of the All Japan Superbike Championship at Twinring, Motegi after the race was red-flagged due to rain. GSX-R1000-mounted Watanabe and team mate Kousuke Akiyoshi led from the start and held strong lead when the race was stopped on the 12th lap. But on the 8-lap restart, Watanabe gated a lowly eighth and Akiyoshi slid off the track on lap five.

Watanabe, who is also racing in the ST600 class, smashed his own lap record under hot but windy conditions.
