Pirelli Race Review - Monza
A classic Italian weekend started on Thursday 8th May with a press conference, held at the Castello della Bicocca degli Arcimboldi, inside Pirelli’s headquarters in Milan. Many riders from the different classes participated, along with Pirelli and FGSport top-level management. Fanatics around the world watched it live, on the pirellityre.com website. On the racing stage, Pirelli fulfilled its promises by bringing a range of excellent tyres, both in SBK and WSS classes; thus Parkes and Bayliss made new track records at Monza. In SBK, Neukirchner was fast from Friday and ended Superpole in 2nd position, behind Bayliss, and clearly aiming to take his first ever SBK victory at the legendary Monza.

Superb Debut Win for Max!
Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner took a superb maiden victory at Monza and also went into the record books for being the first German to win a World Superbike Championship race. Ever since Valencia, when he was cruelly robbed of victory on the last lap, Max has been ready to win and today he emphatically showed that he is a force to be reckoned with this year. Max was a race-long contender for a win in the second race, but was beaten to the line in a photo-finish with Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha). At the end, he was deprived of victory (and a remarkable double!) by just nine thousandths of a second! Haga took second place in race one, with Troy Bayliss (Ducati) third and Suzuki Alstare riders Yukio Kagayama and Fonsi Nieto fourth and seventh places respectively. Behind Haga and Neukirchner in race two, was Ryuichi Kiyonari (Honda) in third, followed by Fonsi Nieto. Yukio suffered a dramatic crash in the Ascari chicane after just four laps, hurting his ribs and right knee in the process.

Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) shared the wins in the IDS Italian Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in front of a record crowd of 112,000 spectators. The first-ever win for a German rider in World Superbike history came at the end of a sprint finish to the line with Haga, just 0.058 seconds behind at the flag. The final podium place went to championship leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) after a late attack by Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki Alstare), who finished fourth despite a couple of errors at the chicane.

Max Storms to provisional Pole!
Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner was in sensational form today, posting the day’s fastest lap in this afternoon’s qualifying session at Monza. The young German blitzed the 5.793 kilometre circuit in 1:45.990, breaking the lap record in the process. Over three tenths of a second behind is series leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati) with Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama third. Completing the provisional front row is Japanese rider Makoto Tamada (Kawasaki). It was not such a good day for Suzuki Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto. He crashed in the qualifying session, fortunately without injury, and lost time when most of the riders were setting their quick lap times. Fonsi ended eleventh and he and the team know that a lot of good work will have to be done tomorrow to get a good grid position.

Bayliss Takes Healthy Points Margin to Monza
08 May 2008
Following his double victory at Assen, Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) will come to Monza for the IDS Italian Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend with a healthy 70 point lead in the table over his closest rivals as the series reaches third distance. In eight races so far on his Ducati 1098 F08, the 39-year-old from Taree has taken the chequered flag on five occasions, finished second twice and has only been off the podium once, in race 2 at Losail. This sort of steamrolling form will guarantee Bayliss an ample cushion from his 178 points in the next few races should a challenge be mounted by the chasing four-cylinder contenders.

Battered & Bruised, But Alstare's Up for Monza
06 May 2008
Team Alstare Suzuki head to Monza this weekend battered and bruised but eager to attack the podium at the famous Italian circuit. Fonsi Nieto injured his knee in the last round in Valencia and was unable to train until yesterday but is keen to put away his Assen disappointment and get back on the podium again. Although Max Neukirchner did not fall in Assen, his superb podium in race one masked his ongoing recovery from the broken collarbone sustained in the previous round in Valencia. Yukio Kagayama was the only one of the three not troubled by injury as the team left the Netherlands and the Japanese rider is really looking forward to Monza and its high-speed turns.

Pirelli – Assen Race Review
28 April 2008
After a weekend of records at Valencia, thanks to the Pirelli tyres which used to improved the lap records in all the classes, Assen delivered another great performance from the Pirelli tyres. In the SBK class the riders use a qualifing tyre and Bayliss set the new record in Superpole with the incredible time of 1’38.420, having set an even better one in final free practice, 1’38.355. No qualifying tyres were needed for a new pre-race record from the Diablo SUPERCORSA tyre, and Broc Parkes. In the two Stock classes DIABLO SUPERCORSA produced records, with Corti in the 1000 class (a time of 1’41.576 which could let him race in the SBK class) and Petrucci in the 600cc class.

Double Dutch Delight for Bayliss at Assen
28 April 2008
Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) powered to his second double of the year with two convincing wins at the Assen TT Circuit in the Netherlands in the fourth round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship front of 75,000 spectators. Bayliss powered to his fifth win at Assen in the opening race after a mistake by early leader Kagayama (Alstare Suzuki) on lap 12 left him with a gap at the chicane. The Australian then increased his lead over the following riders in the final laps to win by a margin of 2 seconds. Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) took the runner-up slot, in a sprint to the finish with Max Neukirchner (Suzuki Alstare). Kagayama took fourth from Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), both riders holding off a late charge by Jakub Smrz (Ducati Guandalini).

Superb Podium for Max!
28 April 2008
Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner took a superb third place in the first race in Assen today. The young German was a contender throughout the 22-lapper and finished strongly in third behind series leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati) and Carlos Checa (Honda). Max was also a podium contender in the second race until a small brake problem forced him to slow. But he kept charging hard and finished fifth to record his best weekend of the season. Team Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama took fourth place in race one and then suffered a tyre problem in race two which forced him down the order to sixth. His team mate Fonsi Nieto had a weekend to forget, with a crash and a DNF in race one and an eleventh in race two.

Max Misses Out on the Front Row by a Whisker
27 April 2008
Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner made the smallest of errors in the first corner of his Superpole lap and lost a place on the front row of the grid by just a tenth of a second. But the young German is confident that a good start tomorrow will give him a chance to challenge for a podium or two. Team Suzuki Alstare riders Yukio Kagayama and Fonsi Nieto finished their Superpoles with the seventh and ninth fastest times respectively. Both know they will have to get off the line quickly in tomorrow’s pair of 22-lap races if they too want podiums. Series leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati) took Superpole today, with a lap of 1:38.428, nearly a second inside the lap record set by Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) last year. And it is Haga, who is his nearest challenger today, with Ruben Xaus (Ducati) third and Troy Corser (Yamaha) fourth.

SBK Heads to Classic Dutch TT Circuit for Round 4 of 14
23 April 2008
The classic Dutch TT circuit at Assen plays host to the fourth round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship this weekend, after a gap of three weeks from the Spanish Round. With two second places at Valencia, Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) increased his lead over his closest rivals to 48 points but the Australian is now coming under threat from a number of adversaries, mainly on four-cylinder machines. Regulation-wise, there will be no extra handicap applied to the twin-cylinder 1200s for the next three rounds, as the event average difference between the two types of machines – twins and fours - has so far proved to be insufficient to warrant a change.

Alstare All Focussing On Assen
22 April 2008
The dramatic events and disappointment of the last round in Valencia has been firmly put aside and Fonsi Nieto, Yukio Kagayama and Max Neukirchner’s thoughts are focussing on Assen this coming weekend. Max’s collarbone is healing very well and, although he will not be at 100% in Assen, he expects to be competitive right from the start of first practice. Seeing his maiden WSBK win disappear within sight of the chequered flag was a big blow, but the young German has erased that memory and is looking forward instead. Yukio was not 100% fit himself in Valencia, but the three week break from the last round means that he is now ready for Assen.

06 April 2008
Lorenzo Lanzi (RG Ducati) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB) took the wins in a spectacular day of action at Valencia in front of 60,000 spectators, a record attendance for World Superbikes at the Spanish circuit. Carlos Checa (HANNspree Ten Kate Honda) and Max Neukirchner (Suzuki Alstare) were the protagonists of the first race. Neukirchner led every lap from pole position until the final corner, when Checa dived inside, but the Spaniard crashed and took his German rival down with him. Neukirchner suffered a broken left collarbone in the incident and failed to take part in race 2, while Checa remounted to finish fifth.

Max Robbed Of Debut Win At The Last Corner!
06 April 2008
Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner was heading for his first ever World Superbike win, but was taken out on the last corner on the last lap of the first race today. He had led the race from the start and even though Carlos Checa (Honda) closed in on his rear end on the last lap, Max was in front as they entered the last turn. Then Checa tried an impossible manoeuvre up the inside of Max and his rear wheel hit Max, causing both of them to crash.

Max’s Debut Superpole Victory!
06 April 2008
Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner stunned his rivals by storming to his first ever Superpole win this afternoon at the Ricardo Tormo circuit, Valencia, smashing the lap record by well over a second in the process. Max’s Superpole was something special, but to make it an even better day for the Belgian based team, Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama took second place. Third quickest is Troy Bayliss (Ducati), with local hero Ruben Xaus (Ducati) fourth. Team Suzuki Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto suffered grip problems again and finished thirteenth in the 16-rider Superpole shoot-out and so will face an uphill task starting from the fourth row of the grid in tomorrow’s races.
