Yamaha Riders Moving on up as Penultimate Round Approaches

Both Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) have good reason to look forward to the forthcoming WSB weekend in France, as each is enjoying a late season flourish of form. Haga won both of the most recent WSB races at Vallelunga, while Corser has scored three podium finishes in the past three races. They each have good memories of Magny Cours as well, boosting their collective confidence still further.

Parkes and Laverty Win Hard Fought Podiums in Italy

Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) and Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Supersport Team) earned a podium finish apiece after a dramatic WSS race at Vallelunga, eventually capitalising on their strong qualifying performances to go second and third respectively in the race. Parkes was 2.971 seconds from the win, with Laverty hanging on for third, despite riding with broken bones in his feet. Starting from pole, Parkes was held up by other riders in the early laps, letting eventual winner Jonathan Rea run to a clear victory, even though Parkes set a new race lap record more than once in his attempt to catch the start-to-finish leader. Parkes’ new record is 1’39.419, set on lap 19 of 22.

Parkes Rockets to Sixth Pole of the Year

Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) bounced back to top form on a dry track surface at Vallelunga and secured pole for Sunday's race, thanks to a new track best of 1'38.910. His time took him 0.345 seconds ahead of his nearest challenger and placed him in the perfect starting position to negotiate the fast opening corners at Vallelunga come raceday. Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Supersport Team) starts the race from the second row of the grid after a strong qualifying performance on his first dry weather outing at Vallelunga.

Parkes Into the Top Ten as Laverty Scores Points

Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) and Eugene Laverty (Yamaha World Supersport Team) had to race on untried settings at Donington, after all practice and warm-up sessions were damp to some degree, but nonetheless each improved form their lowly starting places to record points scoring finishes. Parkes went tenth from 20th on the grid, with Laverty taking his time to get to know his new bike in the dry, and finally posting 12th in his first ever WSS race.

Corser Eighth After Wet Donington Qualifying

Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) will line up eighth and 11th respectively on the grid for Sunday's WSB races at Donington, after a wet Superpole contest full of drama and incident. Corser fell at Craner Curves with only 15 minutes and five of his permitted pitlane exits left to use up, but after sprinting back to the team garage, he got out again on his spare bike to move up to eighth place. On his spare machine he fell on the very last corner on his fastest lap of all, with 30 seconds left to go. Bashed and bruised, he survived otherwise unscathed.

Harris Unlucky After a Confused WSS Race

Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) finished in fourth position in what was an aggregated race at Brands Hatch - started late because of an earlier race delay, stopped at one stage due to rain, with the second leg finally also halted early after a red flag due to a high-speed crash. In the aggregate results Parkes was just off the podium, in a race won by Jonathan Rea. Andrew Pitt was third and now Rea is ahead of Parkes in the standings, with Pitt on 149 points, Rea on 117 and Broc on 113. Parkes was closing in on the front group before Craig Jones fell during the second leg of the race and the race was red-flagged, with the result declared after a combined 15 laps.

Parkes in the Top Four as Harris Goes Fifth Fastest

Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) will make a start from the first row for Sunday's Brands Hatch World Supersport race after finishing fourth fastest in combined qualifying. His team-mate for the Brands Hatch round, Karl Harris, was a superb fifth in his first WSS race for the team, and has also found what he thinks will be a good set-up for the 23-lap race on Sunday. He was only 0.020 seconds from Parkes today in terms of his best qualifying lap, and only 0.2 seconds from pole. Parkes was finally unable to go for his sixth pole in a row after the British weather caused light showers to fall on and off during the final qualifying session today. Despite this he is confident that the team have found a strong set-up for raceday as he goes for his second 2008 season race win.

Japanese Trio Hit the Front in SBK Qualifying at Brands

A trio of Japanese riders hit the front in the first qualifying session for round 10 of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at Brands Hatch, with two-times British Superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari clocking a time of 1 minute 26.017 seconds to take provisional pole. The Hannspree Ten Kate Honda man, who also won the Suzuka 8 Hours a few days ago, was just a fraction ahead of his fellow countryman Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB), second quickest today despite a late trip into the gravel. Suzuki Alstare’s Yukio Kagayama set a similar time to Haga to grab the third slot, while Italian Max Biaggi (Sterilgarda Go Eleven Ducati) was a further fraction of a second behind to complete the provisional front row.

Haga & Corser Ready for More Brands Success

Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) are no strangers to the podium in the World Superbike Championship, Corser having taken 122 career top three finishes and Haga 82. As their winning records show, each of Yamaha's lead 2008 season riders has a special affinity with Brands Hatch, having scored seven race wins between them at the sinuous and flowing English circuit. Corser is sitting in overall third in the points' standings after a Brno race weekend that placed him second and then fourth. Corser's pre-Brands confidence is boosted by the fact that he is currently only 12 points behind the second place rider, Max Neukirchner.

Parkes Fourth in Tight Brno Race

Broc Parkes (Yamaha World Supersport Team) fought hard for a podium finish at Brno but had to settle for a fourth place, and third in the championship standings overall. Parkes did not get his customary strong start from pole position, dropping back to 7th in the pack at the start of the race. He then had to expend energy in the early laps making up places to make sure he was in contention near the end. Parkes was unable to jump out of corners with the same sharpness that had helped him to his fifth pole position in a row after qualifying on Saturday, and was unable to attack in the final few laps.

Yamaha Riders Out to Score Big in Brno

After a successful two-day test at Vallelunga between 8th and 9th July both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) are fully prepared to meet the challenge of a resurfaced Brno circuit on Sunday 20th July. The 9th round of the 2008 season sees Haga arrive in fourth place in the overall championship fight, only six points ahead of his team-mate Corser. Now the most effective team-mates in the field once again, Haga has won four races so far, while Corser has been desperately unfortunate not have taken at least one win among his six podiums. Each rider has recorded successes at Brno, with Corser having won three races there and Haga one. Each took a Brno victory in 2005, Corser the first and Haga the second. The Yamaha duo traded the fastest lap in the two Czech races last year.

SBK Reaches #500 Mark with Czech Republic Round at Brno

The Superbike World Championship notches up an important benchmark this coming weekend at the Automotodrom Brno circuit in the Czech Republic as the production-based racing series reaches the #500 mark with Sunday’s race two. The championship got underway at Donington Park on April 3rd, 1988 and this weekend’s round at Brno will see races #499 and #500. Even though the Czech Republic Round is the 252nd in the championship’s history, on four occasions (1988 Le Mans, 2001 Phillip Island, 2005 Imola, 2007 Silverstone), only race one was held due to inclement weather conditions.

Foret Fights Hard for Fourth

Despite finishing the first lap in 15th position, after being run wide in the first chicane by another rider, Fabien Foret (Yamaha World Supersport Team) battled back to finish fourth and retain his second place in the championship after seven rounds. Broc Parkes looked like a sure podium finisher until he lost the front end on lap nine of the Misano World Supersport race, dropping from second to 17th, before re-starting his stricken machine. Each of the two top Yamaha riders had started from the front row, but in a race littered with crashes and retirements, and conducted in temperatures of 33°C, few pre-race plans came to a satisfactory climax in the Misano cauldron.

Corser & Haga Take Winning Form to San Marino

After incredible rides at the Nürburgring in Germany both Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) will be relishing another chance to compete for top honours at Round 8 of the World Superbike Championship at the Misano circuit on the Adriatic coast of Italy this weekend. Despite suffering from a broken right collarbone, plated and pinned before the Nürburgring race, Haga won both races in the German round, only just beating his team-mate Corser in race two. Arguably Corser looked favourite for the win until the track surface started to become wet, but it was still a miracle for Haga to be anywhere near a double win so soon after his big crash in America.

Parkes on the Podium After Class Leading Ride

Yamaha World Supersport Team rider Broc Parkes came within a few laps of winning the twice delayed and once restarted WSS race at the Nürburgring in Germany, as the Australian rider led for 15 of the 19 laps, running a pace none could match for long periods. He was forced to slow in the final few minutes of the race, and went from a win to a third place finish as a result. His team-mate Fabien Foret, who had started tenth on the grid, ran out a comfortable fourth after a fight with Craig Jones, having lost contact with the leading group in the early laps.

Yamaha Riders go Back to the Future in Germany

Noriyuki Haga and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia WSB Team) approach the seventh round of the 2008 World Superbike Championship, at the Nürburgring in Germany this coming weekend, safe in the knowledge that they are as experienced at this circuit as almost any of their peers. Both Yamaha factory riders have raced on the 1998 and 1999 versions of the circuit, located in the Eifel Mountains close to the Belgian border, and will have little difficulty remembering the majority of the layout.

Pirelli Race Review - Monza

A classic Italian weekend started on Thursday 8th May with a press conference, held at the Castello della Bicocca degli Arcimboldi, inside Pirelli’s headquarters in Milan. Many riders from the different classes participated, along with Pirelli and FGSport top-level management. Fanatics around the world watched it live, on the pirellityre.com website. On the racing stage, Pirelli fulfilled its promises by bringing a range of excellent tyres, both in SBK and WSS classes; thus Parkes and Bayliss made new track records at Monza. In SBK, Neukirchner was fast from Friday and ended Superpole in 2nd position, behind Bayliss, and clearly aiming to take his first ever SBK victory at the legendary Monza.

Neukirchner & Haga Share the Wins in Monza

Max Neukirchner (Alstare Suzuki) and Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) shared the wins in the IDS Italian Round of the HANNspree FIM Superbike World Championship at the Autodromo Nazionale di Monza in front of a record crowd of 112,000 spectators. The first-ever win for a German rider in World Superbike history came at the end of a sprint finish to the line with Haga, just 0.058 seconds behind at the flag. The final podium place went to championship leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) after a late attack by Yukio Kagayama (Suzuki Alstare), who finished fourth despite a couple of errors at the chicane.

Broc Parkes Takes Pole At Monza For Yamaha

Yamaha World Supersport Team riders Broc Parkes and Fabien Foret earned front row starts for Sunday’s Monza WSS race, with Parkes taking pole and a new track record of 1’49.868 on his Yamaha YZF-R6. It was Parkes’ second pole in succession and the third Yamaha pole of the 2008 season. It was also his sixth career pole win.

Foret & Parkes Well Placed After Day One at Monza

Yamaha World Supersport Team riders Fabian Foret and Broc Parkes finished second and third respectively after the first day of qualifying at Monza, after a busy period of action at the classic Italian parkland venue. Air temperatures hit 28°C during the qualifying session, in which 37 riders attempted to qualify for Sunday's race. Foret was held up at the Lesmo corners on his fastest lap, losing some time to fastest qualifier Joshua Brookes.Foret is happy with his basic machine set-up and aims to take his first win of the year on Sunday.
