Bridewell Crashes Out In France
07 October 2008
After qualifying in a fantastic second place, any hopes that Tommy Bridewell had of rounding out an eventful season in the Suzuki GSXR750 European Cup in style vanished when he crashed heavily on the third lap of the final round held at Magny Cours in France. Continuing his great end of season form after breaking his leg at the opening round of the Italian Superbike Championship, Bridewell was just pipped to pole position by Austrian Roland Resch and in the early stages of the race, despite a poor start, the 20 year old from Devizes in Wiltshire was making ground on the leaders.

Points all Round at Magny-Cours for Greg & Chris
06 October 2008
Despite the inclement weather that affected the 13th round of the Hannspree World Superbike Championship at Magny Cours in France over the weekend, Vent Axia VK Honda riders Gregorio Lavilla and Chris Walker both came home in the points in both races. The team lost valuable practice time due to wet practice sessions on Friday and qualifying was a bit of a battle for both Chris and Greg but Greg managed to just make it into the Superpole lying in 16th which remained his final grid position for the race. Having not had a full dry weekend on the bike since joining the PBM team at Brands Hatch, Chris spent more time getting to grips with the Superbike and gaining more confidence on the bike as he posted 23rd fastest time.

Fonsi Back on the Podium
06 October 2008
Team Suzuki Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto had his best weekend of the year since the opening round in Qatar, by taking a superb runner-up spot in race one at Magny-Cours today. Fonsi had started from the front row of the grid and spent most of the race fighting with Troy Bayliss (Ducati) and eventual race winner, Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha). Because of a problem with the gearchange on his number one bike, he used his spare bike in race two, but did not like the feel of it as much and could only manage eighth place.

06 October 2008
Despite setting a new lap record in race one, HANNspree Ten Kate Honda rider, Carlos Checa, took a seventh and a fourth in today’s penultimate 2008 World Superbike championship event at Magny-Cours in France. The races were won by Noriyuki Haga and Troy Bayliss, the Australian finally securing his third World Superbike championship title as his career draws to a close. Checa’s team-mate, Kenan Sofuoglu, battled hard in race one for a season’s best ninth place, but the after-effects of his high-speed crash at Vallelunga two weeks ago took their toll in race two as the Turkish rider struggled home in nineteenth place.

Superb Second for Fonsi!
05 October 2008
Team Suzuki Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto finally laid his Superpole demons to rest by setting the second quickest lap in the 16-rider Superpole shoot-out at Magny-Cours today. Fonsi had been fourth in regular qualifying, but stormed round the 4.411 kilometre circuit in 1:38.574 - a time bettered by just one tenth of a second by Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha). Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner had a big ‘moment’ on his Superpole lap, but recovered to finish with the sixth fastest lap. Team Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama was another to give the spectators and TV fans a sheart-stopping moment, but he too managed to stay on the bike and complete his lap. Unfortunately, he lost the best of half a second in the process and now faces a hard day tomorrow from fifteenth place on the grid.

Haga Grabs First Superpole of the Year at Magny-Cours
05 October 2008
Noriyuki Haga’s exceptional end-of-season run of form continues at Magny-Cours this weekend as the Yamaha Motor Italia WSB rider powered to the Superpole for tomorrow’s French Round races with a new best lap of 1 minute 38.444 seconds. For the Japanese rider, who notched up a double win here last year and another double two weeks ago at Vallelunga, it was his first pole of the season and his sixth overall. The one-lap dash was a hard-fought affair, with the top 4 ending up in the space of three-tenths of a second and four different bikes on the front row from Yamaha, Suzuki, Ducati and Honda. Lining up alongside Haga will be Fonsi Nieto (Suzuki Alstare), the Spaniard producing his best performance of the year, followed by championship leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) and Carlos Checa (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda).

Checa Fourth in Magny-Cours Superpole
05 October 2008
Carlos Checa will start tomorrow’s two 13th round World Superbike races at Magny-Cours from the front row of the grid after setting the fourth fastest time in this afternoon’s Superpole qualifying. Pole position at the 4.4km circuit in central France was taken by Yamaha’s Noriyuki Haga after cold and damp conditions affected all teams’ preparations for Sunday’s two 23-lap races. HANNspree Ten Kate Honda’s Kenan Sofuoglu, still suffering the after-effects of his big crash at Vallelunga two weeks ago, finished Superpole in 14th place. Martin Bauer, standing in for the injured Ryuichi Kiyonari, did not qualify for Superpole, and will start from the fifth row of the grid.

The HANNspree Ten Honda riders are currently separated by 11 points at the top of the points table and, despite this weekend’s practice and qualifying sessions affected by the weather, have clearly benefited from last week’s test at Magny-Cours.

Fonsi Fourth in Changing Conditions
04 October 2008
The changing conditions throughout the first day of practice and qualifying disrupted proceedings so badly that no rider completed more than nine laps in the afternoon timed session. Qualifying had started dry, but after about ten minutes or so, the first rain shower fell, causing the field to scurry back to their garages. The rain abated for a while, but it wasn’t long before it started again and this time the showers were much heavier and hail also began to fall. The inclement conditions meant that no rider ventured out again and so the provisional grid was formed from the lap times set at the beginning of the session. Team Suzuki Alstare riders Fonsi Nieto and Yukio Kagayama finished fourth and ninth quickest, with Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner tenth. Japanese rider Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) topped the standings today, with Troy Bayliss (Ducati) second and Carlos Checa.

Bayliss First in Wet Qualifying
04 October 2008
The Superbike riders were today faced with cold, wet conditions at Magny-Cours that meant they only completed a handful of laps in the first qualifying session. With a track temperature of just 16 degrees, Ducati Xerox factory riders Troy Bayliss and Michel Fabrizio exited in the dry at the start of the afternoon's session but only had time to make six or seven laps before a persistent rain prevented further exits, thus cutting the session short. Despite the lack of track time, Troy Bayliss and his Ducati F08 recorded the second fastest time of the session while his team-mate Michel Fabrizio concluded the day in fifteenth position.
